Checked u-joints in my 2008 tundra 5.7 (no play in them)and the carrier bearing has little play. My question is the carrier bearing not supposed to have any play in it, which might be causing the noise. Can't seem to find where this noise is coming from.

I'm pretty sure mine has zero play in it. When does it make the noise. When you get on and then off the gas? When you put it in gear? Or constantly?

BTW you're going to need to make an introduction post before you can reply to anything.

I'm in your same boat right now bud. My center bearing (carrier) is shot. Rubber is torn and the metal is making noise on the drive shaft yoke. I started repairing it but my table vice broke so now I'm just gonna drop it of at the drive shaft shop and have em swap it out. Too much of a hassle for me to do.

They usually give out above the 100k mark depending on you driving style. I noticed my noise around the 119k mark. I tried to trace it and thought it was from the brakes because it was a low pitch ringing noise. It went away then came back. I jacked the truck up and sat the axle on jack stands and let the wheels turn freely and that's how I discovered the issue. I'm sitting at 121k and I off-road pretty heavy so I'm sure I accelerated the wear on it. I got the replacement part from Toyota and it was $182.00. Tried to press out the U-Joints but those boys are TOUGH! So instead of taking the chance of damaging the ears on the shafts I figured I'd let the shop do the honors

    Part Number is: 37230-34060

This post might be a little old but I'm seeing wear on my center bearing and wanted to reply. My question is why does Rock Auto have center bearings listed starting at $10.31 and the highest is $70.79! Timken is $67.79 so I guess that's the one I'll get. Is it just a "you get what you pay for" kidna thing?

Funny because I wore out my Toyota one too like 6-7mo. later! I ended up getting it redone with a generic one and its been great!
