The bumper gets replaced, then suspension for added weight, then rear bumper to match, then tire and rims to fill it out, then gears to compensate for oversize tires, etc. Same nightmare, different truck!:spending:

I like the new Tundra front. It will take some time to make people adjust to it.

Idk, it's not a matter of adjusting to the ugly front end for me. I suppose if they redesigned it to not be ugly I'd adjust to it though :D

Hell, I'm just opinionated and stubborn though :anonymous:

This is why the '22 Tundra doesn't have front hooks. This post got eight likes ridiculing a need for front hooks. This is what Sweers looks at with marketing surveys. Mall crawlers got the win.

First gen only has anchors on the frame with a flat loop. I took mine off for weight reduction and got .000064 mpg increase.

Actually I took mine off when mounting reservoirs, didn't like them there and never put them back on.

I heard you can just hook up to that massive grill and it'll be fine.

I am beginning to think that a strong reason the Tundra doesn't have tow hooks has a lot to do with the way the nose is designed. There's what appears to be a foot of plastic and grille out front, and I am wondering if Toyota is doing this for upcoming/other country crash regulations. As much as the big plastic front end seems to go against a "tough truck" image, it would likely pass a wider array of more restrictive crash requirements.

Most tow hooks I have seen have been mounted to very sturdy frame members right behind the bumper. Not only would the tow hooks be bad for restrictive crash regulations, but the sturdy frame they are directly mounted to are likewise not preferred if the front of the truck is being designed for more restrictive requirements.

By the time you mount hooks under and a foot back, they aren't very useful anymore. They get buried when your stuck, and any attached straps could damage the plastic nose during some recovery instances.

Just a thought. If it were for aerodynamics, Toyota could have hidden tow hooks behind a plastic door.

Yes, I'm pretty bored right now!

I think this is spot on.

toyota said they will be an accessory, but your right, mounting them back a foot or underneath is worthless, they will be buried or you'll rip off the front of the truck trying to pull with them

Idk, I have a Ranchhand bumper and mine are pretty far back, however the bumper has cutouts (with style) to simply reach through and latch on. Secondly, for crash purposes they could easily have a one way crumple zone design. I think the whole Idea is to sell expensive trucks that can pull trailers, then the off road toys are sxs, crawlers, dirtbikes, atv's, etc. The folks at the top want to sell us more and sink us deeper. More crap to park, they sell us more real estate too. May not affect all, but a whole bunch have already bought into it, hook, line, and sinker!

Since the biggest obsession with the 3rd gens after payload is the tow hooks, or lack thereof, I figured we needed a thread to keep the pollution out of the main threads. The payload obsessed people have their own thread, why not the tow hook obsessed?

    This thread is for everyone:

Those who think anything without tow hooks is a car.

Those who think Ford/GM/Ram/Chev/Nissan now all build a better truck because they have tow hooks.

Those who have never used tow hooks but still want them.

Those who plan to put an aftermarket bumper on negating the point of OEM towhooks.

Those who think it's an oversight not to have them but it's not a deal breaker.

Those who are now buying something else/keeping their old truck because of a lack of tow hooks.

Everyone else who really doesn't give a shit but just wants to point and laugh at people who pitch online hissy fits.

**Feel free to quote people who pollute other threads with tow hook bullshit and link them here**

Well, ok then. Let me begin with this. I spend alot of time off road in remote northern Canadian backcountry. I have no tow hooks. I also have no strong feelings that I need or don't need tow hooks. Discuss.

That's because you're a Canadian and simply know how to make do without. Plus, it ain't like there's a whole lot of traffic in the Northern Alberta backcountry so you'd be waiting days, if not weeks, for another vehicle to pass by to pull you out. LOL

Lack of tow hooks isn't going to stop me getting a Tundra.

But it would be nice if Toyota offered the option.

I have no doubt a third party will soon make it happen.

I joined just to say it was a legitimate reason I didn't buy a new Tundra and ended up with a different brand.

If you're someone that needs them it's a big miss. Most cars still have a front recovery point (even if it screws in) and I really don't understand why Toyota left them off the Tundra...maybe they realized real world gas mileage was still under performing the segment and were trying for that last 10th of a mpg.

In the south most hunting lease roads stay muddy in the winter. most of the time its no big deal but most people at some point get stuck trying to get in and have to call their buddies to yank them out. Its usually no big deal, unless you have a 22 tundra that is.
