Much like the Tacoma, my guess is a replacement center stubby bumper
will become available from TRD and other vendors. I am sure there will also be a winch capable bumper as well. There is lots of space in the nose to work with. The one below can easily be tweaked to include the fog lights as well. [IMG]

    I live in one.

IMO its irresponsible of owners to not have appropriate tires.

As far as pulling them out? Sure recovery hooks would be nice. Put some chains on the rear tires and drive it out.

It’s amazing to me how I’ve been able to hunt remote places, by myself, for decades and I haven't yet died in a snowdrift.

I have appropriate tires, recovery gear, and common sense.

I'm sorry if this is being asked a bunch of times already, but have we got a clear idea of the real world miles per gallon for the hybrid yet?

    Merry Christmas everyone.

The hybrid isn't even on the market yet as far as I know. I don't think it's supposed to be released until spring 2022, so not likely to see anything until then.

Out driving in them as per normal. Thousands of miles every year, and I can’t remember needing tow hooks in the last five years. A coal shovel, and chains and/or traction boards are an easy solution.

To be fair, doesn't he kinda HAVE to? Wouldn't be great optics to have your head Tundra guy driving anything else.

He is an engineer, so maybe it just a manifestation of his love to tinker?

I think your right though. He talks about using his for work, which is funny since this new one is a Commuter/Influencer truck.

not so sure about that since it has higher payload, higher towing. How does that make it a commuter truck?

with the 479 at 2400 and the 10 speed gearing advantage, it will handily out pull a 5.7 especially at altitude.

Wasnt trying to :stirthepot:. Per Sweers own words this truck was not built for "work".

3rd gen commuter truck that tows well. That's this new model in a nutshell.

when did he say that, I haven't seen that? just curious on the context.

we all define "work" different, honestly, I don't think any 1/2 ton is a work truck, wouldn't cut it in most places, need a HD truck for most work, thats just my .02.

Sweers wanted a diesel and Toyota told him “no”. For all we know Sweers is chomping at the bit to design a Tundra HD but Toyota is not allowing it.

If I had to guess Sweers probably wanted front tow hooks but some executives at Toyota told him to focus on efficiency and then the design no longer easily allowed for tow hooks. So we get no tow hooks because the marching orders were to maximize fuel efficiency.

Nah, not mpgs. More about complying with upcoming crash regulations is my bet.
They need the front of the truck to be "soft" so it's "less deadly" to certain things/scenarios.
Don't be surprised to see recovery hooks removed from other trucks in the future.
Toyota could've provided recovery points behind plastic panels if they only cared about mpgs.

I won’t tell you you’re wrong about that either.

Or a combination of both fuel efficiency and crash testing, pedestrian impact standards, etc etc. Once all of those are factored in it’s just cost and design prohibitive to add recovery hooks.

The new Land Cruiser doesn’t have any either as far as I can tell.

I cant find where he says it specifically now, but this article supports my claim that he said it.

"Toyota’s engineers say they wanted to rethink their approach for the Tundra, now in its third generation, and I think the biggest changes are about making the Tundra less like its competitors. Right down to the way Toyota conceives of the truck. The carmaker claims it’s happy to let its rivals — such as GM and Ford — keep the “work truck” image, while it wants people to see the Tundra as a “fun truck.” Really, I think it’s a way to avoid competing directly based on specs, because the new Tundra isn’t class-leading across the board. Though, it could be considered greater than the sum of its specs
    ."
