Leveling 22 Platinum with AVS/Air

Looking to level my 22 platinum. Arrives this week and would like to fit a 295/60R20, figure a level will do. Wondering about options with the truck having the AVS. Any ideas? Known solutions in the after market?

 

I think your going to need more than a level to get that big of tire, that wide on that thing. thats something like a 34.5 by 12.5 right?

 

for the rear air suspension, check out the lifts available for sequoia with rear air suspension. Heard that it looks like it will work for the new tundra

 

Did you get your new truck and were you able to level it? Looking to do the same, also with air rear suspension and AVS.

I looked at the truck with those options this weekend at the auto show and saw the following:

Rear suspension is then air only, no coil springs.

The auto rear ride height sensor setup has a slot at one of the joints, allowing for adjustment. Since I have yet to see a 1" or 1.5" 'leveling' kit (I want to still leave a little rake and don't like the looks of the 2"), I wonder if this would allow me to tweak the air setup to raise the back up a hair more. Hopefully wouldn't then ride too stiff when it then puts a little more air in after I adjust the ride sensor.

The headlights still have a manual adjustment screw that hopefully would let me readjust the auto leveling headlights back to proper baseline after the leveling kit.

Anyone done this yet with the air and AVS?

 

gnc1017 can you take a picture of the bump stop ? I have a limited with bags, bed cover and bed liner. Mine is seating 1 1/2in from the axel with nothing in it. I'm curious, thank you . It bottoms out on the littlest dip. If you figure out how to manually adjust the psi , please share!!!

 

I have 295/60r20s on trd 20" wheels with stock suspension. No rubbing or clearance issues

 

Adjustable Air Links are quite popular for “tricking” the truck’s air suspension.

I’m sure a company will make some for the Tundra soon. There are also people on the Ram forum who make their own.

 

My SR5 with air suspension sits level, not impressed with the air suspension, with 2 - 300 # in the bed I can feel it bottoming out often.

boy , am I glad I waited , I was thinking about a new tundra but Im starting to think otherwise about some of these things for now.

how can that be that it bottoms out like that with hardly any weight? something must be wrong

 

The lexus guys have been moving that slot up for ages (or down to drop cars). Hopefully someone manufactures aftermarket links for it so its much easier to swap out and get the lift needed

 

I'm no longer at the auto show but I believe the round rubber disc in the 2nd pic is also a bump stop. It looked like it would hit on the frame when bottomed. Not sure of course if they have anything inside the air bag too. I didn't notice one like in your pic but I wasn't looking for it either.

Sounds like something definitely not right if yours is bottoming with such little weight. Hopefully just an adjustment.

Heard that this is similar to the Lexus design so good to hear that others have used that slot to tailor their ride height as desired also. Curious, if it's slotted, why the need for aftermarket links?

This guy shows how to manually adjust your ride height . Found this on YouTube, tomorrow I'm going to play with the sensor settings. Hope this helps me and others wondering about AVS

 

Ok I played with the the AVS air suspension, gnc1017 is right. You can adjust the ride height. One sensor for each side. Here is a picture of it from gnc1017. 1/4 gave me a 2in lift. I set mine to about the same in this picture. No more sitting on the bump stops.

The sensor is hooked up underneath the bed attached to the axel. If you loosen that nut and side the lever up it will lift the rear , lower will drop. This will set your daily ride height.

 

And how r things after that as far as daily use

Still rides very comfortable. I drove over the same bumps I do every morning and not as much bouncing or bottoming out. My biggest problem was that it was set on lowest height. I was hitting the bump stops on the smallest of dips. First picture was from the dealer, second was after my adjustment.

Just give it awhile, might level out or just bottom out. I guess Toyota didn’t get the memo that no manuf has ever made a air suspension worth a damn and they are no exception.
On a side note I am sure it’s the air suspension on many and the sensor can be adjusted. Had it on 3 of my Trailblazer’s SS. Wasn’t easy to adjust but then again it never worked right. Ripped it out and put coils.

 

Thanks for the update! Curious as to:

• Does it do better when loaded?
• Does it auto level even if not in tow/haul mode?
• How much rake do you now have? Can you take a pic of the side of the truck?

I am waiting on the hybrids but want the self-leveling and AVS (with a planned front leveling kit too) so your info is much appreciated!

 

It does self level, my setting was on the lowest before. I will find out this weekend when I load it up. I will snap some new photos today of the side view. I too plan on leveling it out.

 

I reached out to them and they need measurements, photo's etc. they might have a link that already works, or they will develop and send someone a free set

 

Guessing the Ram 1500 doesn't have an adjustable sensor linkage from the factory? If not, makes sense for the need for the aftermarket links.

The new Tundra rear air suspension already has an adjustable linkage (see pics above) so unless for some reason it doesn't provide enough adjustment range, there may not be a need for anything else.

For anyone with the new rear air Tundra setup and have changed the height sensor adjustment, please let us know what you did and your results.

If you also have the AVS shocks, also very interested to hear results on how this adjustment has affected the AVS functionality and adjustability (if any).

 

I adjusted it. It raises thr back about an inch or 2 and ride quality stayed the same

 

could you provide us with before and after picture with measurements?

 

Mon your Plat, how high is the surface of the tailgate when it’s open? And now that you moved the abs setting so it sits right with any weight in the bed, how high is it now? Have a lead time for a ramp and fabricator needs the surface height before determine structure length for getting a motorcycle into the bed. Appreciate any measurements if and when you get the chance.
