Also for anyone buying anything from ECGS I used TW as a code to get free shipping.

@FrenchToasty how the tool looking? I started taking apart all the front end because I'm replacing everything except the cv axles which I was going to replace the leaking inner boot to CVJ red boot. But guess what the axle is shot. Super weird because it didn't make no noise and front end felt normal, but know I have to order CVJ full axle and see if I can return the boots. So not going to bother making the tool because going to have to wait for the axles.

That sucks about your axle being kaput.
Is it bad bad or just dry?
Either way, the tool is still out, hopefully will be back soon. You can PM me your mailing info, and as soon as it comes back I can send it your way.

So the boot was ripped a little so it still has grease but not ball bearing . Also has play in and out obviously because it has no bearing.

Pics? That’s super odd, I believe mine has the 5 ball design, not sure if other years used the tripod on these trucks or not.

You DO need that many measurements cause if you get it wrong in size and make it too big or too small it won’t fit inside the hole and outside of the bearing or it will scratch things up and cause a leak.

So yes I inspected it and it does have the bearing but there is alot of play in and out. Is that normal doesn't seem like it.

Completely normal! That’s the point of them, when you’re suspension flexes, your cvs need to stretch but still apply power, that’s how it achieves this. Timmy the tool man does another video on rebooting cvs, the ones he shows are the tripod I mentioned earlier. But I’ve cleaned and regreased and rebooted those same CVs you have. I think the inner and outer both have play like that

So the inner has 2" of play and the outer has no play. So im I good to go how can I triple check them?

So I bit the bullet and ordered the tool. So once I'm done we will have 2 tools that can be sent out. I'm just don't have the patience to wait and not trying to scratch my diff. I want to a cnc shop because I was going to make the little bracket so I can sell it for cheap but they are super busy.

Has anyone had this fix a vibration issue? Or is is usually done preemptively?

    .
I believe if you have a vibration issue and it goes away when you put it in 4x4 then it's the needle bushing that's bad.

Got my bushing on order as well as new seals, both driver and passenger. Will likely pull the trigger on a passenger CV here in a few weeks.

Speaking of, what’s the consensus on CV’s around here?
    Replace in pairs?
How much lift until you need the R series from CVJ?
Is the Toyota inner boot really that much better?
I also hear talk of the NAPA axles?

The ones from my donor are both OEM and I rebooted them during the swap (thanks @FrenchToasty) but the passenger has a nasty click with any steering input. If I went NAPA, I would likely keep my core so that I could go CVJ if I wanted to in the future but then at that price, you’re already creeping into CVJ $$ territory.

I'm lifted 2" and I went with the more expensive CVJ axles but I did that because the boot is supposed to be better quality, not because I thought I had too much lift. I don't think you necessarily have to replace them in pairs. If both are OEM and only one is clicking then you could start with just one.

Ok, so, for Tundra I should order bushing and seal and two axles? CVJ is the premium option? Or is there any upgrade for extra beef if potentially planning a front locker?

Then the matching bushing and seal for my 2016 Tacoma too? And TW gets free ship?

    Anything I’m missing?

I think cvj is the most upgrade/beefyness you can find.
If your replacing both front CVs you’ll want seals for both sides and then the bushing

Yep, bmf posted in the other thread, but this is basically what you’d need besides your axles

FWIW, I bought the tools and both 3rd gen Tacoma and FGT adapter whatevers, all in a box right now, so if someone in north county SD wants to do theirs and help me figure out how to do mine, should be game on once the truck comes home.
