My sheet says 18R265 for tire size, also have a Sport. I think that is for a base SR5 though and is incorrect.

Congrats I guess. I wouldn't expect much hate, I think the majority of this forum has blocked you at this point.

Is there anything under there to wrap a strap or winch cable to pull out without damaging something. I don’t get stuck very often but it does happen when your at the hunting club or fishing spots. How is someone supposed to get pulled out if the get stuck if the rear is not an option. Kind of ridiculous. I think every truck for the last 20-30 yes has had tow hooks. I know most folks that never leave the pavement will say the hooks are no big deal, but if you get stuck out in the middle of nowhere, you need some way of pulling out without ripping the front end apart. I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve used my tow hooks in the last 10ys, so it’s not often, but I like to know I have them if I need them. Just like I haven’t had a flat in those 10yrs either but it’s still good to know I have a spare just in case.

I haven't heard that any 2022 trims will have anything other than 32s but I haven't investigated fully.

The problem with front recovery is the Tundra has a lot of plastic hanging down low, even lower than the skid plate.

So, even if you could tie off to a bracket or control arm behind the bumper, the moment the recovery strap is pull taught, which will cause it to be horizontal or slope upwards away from the Tundra, the strap will begin displacing the lower plastics of the front bumper.

At first I thought I could live without them but the more I think about it, it’s a pretty big deal. I mean we’ve all been there. Going across what looked like damp dirt, only to sink down and start spinning. Before, someone could just hook up and pull you out, and 5 min later, your on your way. With this truck, you could do serious damage. Now I’m second guessing getting the tundra because a simple thing like tow hooks.

It's interesting, Toyota added availability of rear locker. Which, to be honest, makes it more likely (for me) to get into trouble. I'd definitely push my luck with rear locker.

Even if someone were to make peace with attaching a tow strap under the bumper, it's quite common to get the truck into such a situation that attaching a recovery strap to something behind and below the bumper would be impossible. So, I don't get it.

32.6” is stock tire size, 265/60r20,

I feel if I’m ever stuck so bad I need pulled out I will sacrifice “hopefully only the bumper” and replace it with a after market bumper assuming that can even be done…

but what if you break a cv axel or something that leaves you on the side of the rode. Is there a way to safely pull the truck onto a flatbed tow?

Thank you! I don’t like that the sport is slightly lowered in the front. May get spacers and go just a bit higher in the front with bigger tires. I wish the off-roads didn’t come with the chrome mustache only in SR5s which is why I went with a sport.

The more videos I've seen of the under carriage, the more I think the tow hooks will need to stick out of the bumper. May even end up being a removable screw in recovery hook like is found on a lot of suvs and even cars.

Lack of tow hooks is mind-boggling stupid. They crow about MTS, Crawl Control, rear locker, Fox shocks, yet no front tow hooks. F'n stupid.

I have to admit I am very defensive of my next pickup truck and boy does that 'Yota Kool-Aid tastes good.

But no tow hooks is driving me nuts. I really hope Toyota comes up with an accessory soon.

Was wondering if I bolt a tow ring on somewhere under the skid plate. One will do

Sure but again plan on ripping off your bumper if you use it. Let’s just hope there some good front bumper after market options. I haven't heard any fabricators chiming in on a positive solution.

The big 3 all have tow hooks because they need them to get pulled onto the tow truck!

If you want em? Sweers said they would be an option. I can’t remember which video? Someone will find it?

I think it was one of the original interviews that Andre from tfl interviewed him during the release. Haven't heard anything about them since though and they are not an option yet.

If I get stranded in a blizzard and it's -50F, I will not care if I lose the bumper :D

We'll see what Toyota comes up with.

He probably said that on the fly thinking no big deal, then he got back to the office and they said, “you shouldn’t have said that, we’ve been up all night looking at this thing up and down and there’s just no way without redesigning the whole front end.” Lol

That’s a good question, if one of these trucks ever needs to get towed for whatever reason, how will they hook and drag it onto the flatbed without ripping the bumper off?

There's no problem towing a new Tundra when it's on a/side of the road. Recovery/tow companies can retrieve the truck, and anyways if the truck had recovery hooks, tow companies rarely utilize them, they generally go for the frame or lower control arms.

Recovery hooks are a convenience for someone if they get stuck off-road.
They need to be durable enough to survive use by amateurs without any damage to the truck. On most trucks the recovery hooks are very solidly mounted.

I think Toyota had a priority with the new Tundra to meet various current and future crash regulations, therefore there's a foot of soft plastic and deformable aluminum directly behind the front of the truck. We can't attach recovery hooks to any of that, you could deform the soft crash structure.

Obviously, someone's going to make tough bumpers that will require losing the soft plastic and aluminum crash structure, and bolts directly to the frame. Then you'll have tow hooks. And the truck will perform differently in some crashes, but fortunately we don't need to maintain original crash performance when modding.

Yeah aftermarket will fix this. But... it's a shame that for cost of these itrucks the solution for something so basic will be to spend a considerable amount MORE and cut up their truck. All for a basic run of the mill blue collar standard truck feature.

I use mine all the time in heavy snow.

the whole big three needs tow hooks and Toyota doesn’t , really doesn’t taste to well.

It’s a half ton pick up truck , tow hooks need to at least be an option. Right now they aren’t , I think they were full of bs when they said it would be an option.

let’s see what happens but it doesn’t look well

Congrats on the truck. I'm excited for everybody getting the new trucks on the forum. Can't wait to see how all the owners deck them out, modify them, and to get some real world experience and pics of them.

I’d be willing to bet that they never thought about the tow hooks or were planning on doing that towards the end since it’s such a basic item, then after they finished the front design, they realized it couldn’t easily be done without Going back to the drawing board, so they went with the mpg line.

LOL, no there is bravery for admitting what many here refuse to recognize and a whole lot of fact too!! They do some of the dumbest things like the remote $tart or the remote $tart that shuts off when you open the door or the no auto 4wd and of course the subject of this conversation - tow hooks ... but sure, opinion ... let's go with that !!!:rofl:
