I am getting ready to do my first do-it-myself oil change on my new to me Tundra. I ordered the metal oil filter housing to replace the factory one. Do I need to slightly lube the 2 filter housing o-rings with a couple drops of oil?

I dip my fingers into the old oil I just drained and run it around the o ring. Probably should use the new oil, but the old oil in the catch can was easier.

I grab a couple fresh drips from the drain bung, since I change the filter while the pan keeps dripping. Keeps any contaminants in my drain pan out of the picture.

Don't forget to swap the center piece. The filter holder part.

I keep a bottle of 10w40 conventional oil just for that purpose. I can't see spending the extra money on a premium synthetic just for o-ring.

Also sorry if I was using the wrong term. When I said catch can, I meant the bucket on the ground to catch all the oil from the drain plug. Not the catch can in the engine bay some people add on aftermarket.
