Passing by Toyota of Orlando I noticed a 22 Tundra parked outside. decided to stop for an in person look.
SR5 in white, with premium audio package, read height control air suspension and SR5 premium package. Not a bad configuration for those that don't need the TRD pro package.
As you can notice in the pictures, this dealer is marking up the price by 10k.

That is real sad! Hope that $10,000 buys them something life changing

I think it’s because Toyota has given them a truck to test. If you watch closely they have been driving two different trucks, one has a pano roof and one doesn’t.

Plus there was a shot in one of the test videos where the truck had Texas “Dealer” plates. Trust me, they don’t just give those away here.

Andre has never addressed it so I think they’re trying to keep it on the DL.

They've stated that there are 2 different trucks. The one they bought and the one Toyota loaned them for the best truck challenge.

They have talked about how they have two trucks and are using both a couple times.

My 21’ TRD PRO was marked up 10K too but I paid MSRP plus steps and tints.

That SR5 MSRP is only 1K away from my PRO MSRP. Glad I bought mine earlier this year.

...yeah but the 22's have a heated steering wheel !(that doesn't even work from the few owners reviews so far)

uggg let's hope Toyota gets lots of feedback so they can correct them by 2025 or so.

A few say it works very well. Either some expect it to be warmer or there’s a bunch of defective heated steering wheels going out.

I'm not too familiar with coil rear suspension systems. I may be wrong, but are those 2 bump stops I see?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, if it is perhaps you can guide me to that link. How difficult and expensive would it be to add rear lockers to the 22 tundra regular 4x4 without the TRD package. Most of you will say just get it from the factory but I may have an opportunity to get a 4x4 non TRD (no markup) and if in the future if I must have that locker then perhaps I can add it plus Icon suspension or Fox with additional travel. Are the rear axles the same on standard 4x4 vs the TRD?

These trucks will be flooding the market in 2-3 months per quite a few reports on here. I can't answer your question, but I'd suggest waiting if possible.

    Good luck.

Was expecting an access panel for changing the oil filter on the skid plate like the last gen had. Not a big fan of having to remove the whole thing.

    Very difficult to retrofit.

The rear locker is electric, and the differential assembly is different. The rear locker is connected to the BCM by a wire harness. The wire harness is very likely missing the circuit for the rear locker. Also missing the dash switch wiring (Toyota used to leave unused circuits in their harnesses, but lately they've been pretty thorough about not installing spare circuits) That also means that part of the BCM doesn't have the wires at the connector for the locker.

Let's say you acquire the rear axle assembly from a TRD truck, and ambitiously add the wiring to the harness, you'd still need to reprogram the BCM to control the locker. While it's possible to install the hardware and wiring with lots of money and ambition, I highly doubt you could get that function unlocked in the computer.

Thanks for the information. Replacement of the axle assembly does not sound like something I want to do. I will wait for them to start to get them out of dealership on a regular basis and go for the TRD lockers setup From the factory. Just thought I would ask, I’m sure quite a few people have added a rear locker to their second Gen model.

I currently own an older Japanese FS truck that could be optioned with an e-locker, but mine wasn't. A few people documented the process of swapping in the locking rear axle on their trucks. So I have definitely considered it before.
I ended up getting an Eaton helical gear diff instead of the e-locker swap. So far that works pretty good.

However, I will definitely get a Tundra with the locker already installed. Too bad getting a locker means getting chrome too

I haven't looked at one yet, but that looks like a progressive rate "spring" and a harder bump (black thing on the right side). Loaded, that thing probably sits on the yellow thing. Similar to Sumos.

It seems even if you do your ripping the bumper off when you pull tight from anything but a lower angle.

Tim had his truck lifted and couldn't figure out where tow hooks would go. He said he's hopeful Toyota has a solution in the near future.

I saw that vid. Prob going to have to be super extended hooks into the frame. But honestly it looks like it just can't be done right. That extra space up front kind of kills it.

Yeah it looked challenging for sure. I love the new Tundra and am excited for mine to get here but honestly if tow hooks are a priority you're best off looking elsewhere it seems like.

Ya, two bumpstops. Not sure what the engineering explanation is. Our '07 and '08 4Runners have two also, same solid axle, multilink with coils setup.

I *think* the outer bumps are to limit shock travel. For example, I put Toytec HD lift coils on both Runners and the kit came with bumpstop extenders for the outer ones.

By the way, installing Firestone airbags inside those rear coils will be super easy. The gaps are so big it will be easy to slip the bags in. I like a lot these progressive-rate coils Toyota has standard, seems they hit it out of the park for the rear suspension.
Nice vid, thanks. One-piece rear driveshaft is a good thing, no carrier bearing to dick with when lifting, and two less U-joints. That video shows a 35" spare will fit easily. Still looks to me the electric parking brake uses the discs instead of an additional drum, that's a good thing
Yeah, disappointing. There's an indentation where an access door could be, WTF. It does cover the oil pan so that's a good thing. RCI will have a similar front skid fast and probably will have a filter access door.

Looks like the only tow hooks you can get will be from aftermarket bumpers. Kind of a shame.

Does anyone know what the tire size will be on the Sport? My temporary vin says it will have 20 in. wheels but does not say the actual tire size.

Getting ready for the hate, but here it goes:

2022 Raptor order got delayed again. Apparently some big back up recall on 2021's that's pushing the 22s out further. Dealership said going to be end of Q2.

As a result, I'm not going to wait for that to come... and I found a 2022 Tundra Limited Crewmax Trd-Offroad which is basically the same as my 2019 but for the boulder interior now. Build date Mid January.
