    hey fellas!

So my crewmax currently has 35% huper optiks (not ceramic) on driver and passenger front windows. Slightly lighter than the rear factory glass. Recently got 70% 3M Crystalline on the front windshield. And wow did that dramatically reduce cabin heat! Now I am thinking of adding tint over the factory tint to help keep the cabin cooler. I read that the factory tint is just a dye and doesn't provide any UV protection or heat protection. So my question now is what tint to put on top of the factory glass without it getting too dark. It's already dark for my taste and don't want to make night driving difficult. Maybe 50% tint over the rear windows?

Would like to hear people with similar setup. No limo tints!

Here is how she sits now.

I would put something like 70%, since the rear windows are right around 22 or so.

Thanks. Do you know around what % that would be once on top of the factory tint? How is the math done? I really don't want it to be too dark.

Also is 70 even worth the $?

I have no idea. I am not a tint specialist, but my friend has me in touch with a tint guy for the front windows, and the backs were done with a light gauge.

I have 25% in the front and rear, from the inside it looks fine but from the outside you have to get your face to the rear window to see in

Mine has XPEL PRIME XR88 all rear windows, sunroof and windshield, basically their "clear" on my back doors, sunroof, rear window and windshield. It provides heat rejection, added UV & IR protection and it is just a little darker than stock. I was amazed at how much cooler it is by comparison to stock.

I have 5% in the front windows, added 20% over factory tint, tinted front windshield 50% with a 5% brow on top. It has drastically reduced heat in the vehicle plus I really like my privacy. Lolb9a1a8d9399b9d429677644bc296e27a_0be865a58cdd6ea48bf6356efc7fa12d06dcfaac.jpg

Just multiply the percentages. I've always heard that factory "tint" is somewhere in the neighborhood of 20%, so, if you added 70% to that = .2 x .7 = .14 (14%).

I think in your situation 70% is worth the money because you don't want it much darker anyway, but the amount of cabin heat reduction would be significant.

You may want to check your state's motor vehicle code regarding the percentage of light transmission though the tint that is allowed. I know here in Louisiana you can't tint the front windshield unless you have a medical exemption and then the exemption must be sent to the State Police for approval.

Thank you!!! That seems the most logical now. I think I'm leaning towards 3M Crystalline 70 or Llumar air 80. Just not sure what color it will look since they have a blueish tint to both. Don't want it to look blue.

Thanks for your concern. Where I'm at the front legal limit is 70%. Also the 3M is so light even for a 70 that most people can't even tell it's on there.

Here you go. Side view and front window. It was kind of overcast today, so they might not be the best pictures. I can try again when it is more sunny if you'd like.

wow those rear windows are pretty dark with that 88% on there. What did you put on your front driver/passenger side? Looks darker than 88

The front doors are 35. I think it looks darker because it was overcast. I'll take some more when it is more sunny out. Basically, they put what you see on the windshield on top of the factory tint on the back doors. Also, it would be more like reality if I opened the opposite side windows to let light in - it's not as dark as it looks when looking out from the inside.

Dropped the truck off he tint shop with the intent of putting Llumar air 80. Upon looking at the tint it was really blue and didn't want to change the color of my rear windows. They had solar guard ultra performance 75 which was almost clear with no color in it. Has high solar deflection rating. Having that installed on the rear doors to see how it goes.

I was going to suggest you look at the tint they are going to use up against your windows. Mine is a charcoal / gray tint. No matter how many pictures you see, there is nothing like looking at it in person.

Ended up with Solargard ultra performance plus 80
    http://www.solargard.com/product/ultra-performance-plus/

This was more of a charcoal color. Didn't want to add any blue hue to my windows. I believe it is ceramic. Happy with the outcome. Have the protection without making the glass much darker.

Hard to tell by pictures but it is barely noticeably darker.

I did 20% on the back Window and 18% on the front door windows. I am literally sitting waiting for my Tundra to get finished up at the tint shop and will post pics when done.

Try tinting your sunroof before you do anything else. That may do the trick. It did in my car. I'm having it done in the truck soon

    Have any finished pics?

I tinted them already if you read a few posts below my post. I have been wondering how much difference tinting sunroof would do. What tint did you go with on the sunroof?

I went limp on the sunroof. My dad turned me on to it. His Lincoln MKS has that full sunroof and my mother complained about the sun on her arms. It was a no brained for me after that.
