What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

The 67 we ran around in during HS never ran perfectly, but it always got us home. Hell, it ejected a spark plug from a cylinder head once and drove us home on 3. (We later jellied that plug back in and it ran fine until Matt upgraded to 044 heads.)

 

Lots of good HS VW memories. My Buddies bug with the baseball shifter was a little rocket (felt scary) and could jump railroad tracks with ease. My other buddies dad's Vanagon was the perfect way to TP roll someone's house with all our friends. And then get caught cause you can't outrun them in the Vanagon. Even if they were on foot.

 

Funny enough, we got in way more trouble driving Matt's dad's c10 pickup than we ever did in the beetle.

 

These are why I love old VWs. They make memories. Usually they make hilarious memories even if it isn't funny at the time.

One of our high school buddies always had a clean bug. He went though a few, always with hard to find accessories on them. He passed away around 2009 and his last bug, a 67 with some performance mods, was given to his friends to drive around.

My buddy Andy was taking care of it for a few months. One rainy day he hit me up saying it shut down on him and he couldn't get it to start. It was raining hard and he thought something must have gotten wet. He's a Chevy guy and a good mechanic but VWs were alien to him. He was also pretty damn stoned.

I showed up in my truck, looked at it, couldn't find any obvious signs. I decided let's tow it to his house about 3 miles away, all I had on me was a tow strap. Brakes still worked on the bug, so I hooked up the strap and he sat in the bug holding on for dear life and working the brakes. The things we didn't think about... I have no mud flaps. The bug being 15 feet from my rear bumper with wipers going full speed couldn't keep up with the amount of water I was flinging. He basically had to panic brake whenever he saw my brake lights and hope he didn't lock up. It was mostly a straight shot but I did whip him around the only left turn onto his street.

We got it into his garage where we could focus. Took me 2 minutes to point out that he had no gas in it. we still laugh about that pretty often.

 

Had to bust out the ice scraper for the rear window on the camper shell this morning. Seeing how the all white headlights look. Ordered some of that 303 protectant as my doors were sticking this morning.

 

I got the shims installed in the LF over the weekend and got the truck leveled. Much happier now.
Need to convince one of the techs to align the truck this week and I can be stuntin on these hos with the fresh Sprewells for xmas.

The Sprewells are 6x5.5 and the pcar is 5x130....plus limited downtravel on the 911.

 

They dont have to fit. Front wheels fouled the brakes on the infiniti.

Peel the springs out of em. They are super useful for making thin tools and hangars and whatnot. Saved my fuelpump when my autolock locked my truck while running, was able to get in without hurting the seals and roll a window down. But that was a longer thicker sping than normal, off bus wipers or something.

ive used em as hooks for pulling nuts and wires out of engine valleys, made an lp rake, made fenceties. Everyone always needs wiper blades, and they’re a cheap score for a fair piece of stainless spring steel.

 

well I finished the front passenger seat last night. Took a while to get into a groove and get the hang of things but otherwise went so so. I'm a little bummed the color doesn't exactly match the top of the door cards but I think the color will be a nice accent color and be ok. Not much I can do about it now anyways lol.






Trying to figure out how to wire them up now before I do the driver seat.
I peeped under my console and found the two heated seat wires and plugs as well as the fuse box with the fuse (bottom right) already there


I'm also assuming this plug under the seat if for the seat heaters? Anyone know? The wires come from the cab and then plug into this dead end plug.

I'm wondering if all I have to do is buy the curt wire/plug harness (https://www.homedepot.com/p/CURT-Tr...s-Select-Toyota-Lexus-51362/205632133#overlay)
and then plug the seat elements into it and then into the dead end plug?
I also scored some slightly used OEM heated seat switches off ebay for $30/pair.

 

Never had an issue with sweaty feet wearing them in 5 half marathons so I'd say they're acceptable.

Quite the opposite actually. I find shoes are actually more comfortable. The only thing I need is a couple taller pairs for my work boots

I've actually got a few in the toolbox already. They work very well for pulling wires through grommets in the firewall.

I just thought up a cool alternative. A wheel that "appears" to never spin such that the vehicle looks like it's gliding across the pavement. Totally doable with accelerometers.
