Realized that in all the hustle and bustle and burying dogs that I forgot to thank those who Donated thus far.

@shifty` @chrisb @TRDGen @NickB_01TRD and someone else who I forgot... I feel really bad about that.

All monies have been sent to the bremen FD for families in need.

These were donated by various churches. 288 bucket cleaning kits.

    500 individual personal hygiene kits.

The guy running this circus pulled me aside and said some very very nice things about me relating to churches that I cannot post here publicly...

That and Vinca, major or minor. That stuff chaps my ass. Someone planted at my creek in back. I'll never win the battle against it. I killed off the kudzu, that took 2-3 years, I cleared 2 residential city blocks. Taking out 100' stretch of creek's worth of Asian wisteria took me the better part of 12 years, and I still pull up one or two new sprigs a year from dormant underground roots. I've got a mass of vinca and some kind of ivy, Boston or English, that I've been 100% unable to get rid of in the 20 years I've lived here. It's perforated through the 200ft creek of runoff creek in my backyard. I've tried damn near everything.

Driven thru Waxahatchie a number of times driving between Arlington/Mansfield and SATX. Not a lot to it. Then again, not a lot to see In Stockdale and Karnes City once we got there either. Less you like tarantula holes and rattlesnakes I guess.

Nice! I need to purge out a bunch of the equipment I roped off when facilities went to toss during a move. The sillyscopes and a few other tidbits got yoinked up quick, but I got quite a few other bits here and there that are probably worthwhile.

I'm trying to imagine in my mind what could've possibly been said, but I've had or overheard so many bizarre, inappropriate, or downright disturbing conversations in the church, from or between people tied to a church, I can't even imagine. Hopefully it wasn't too weird.

Actually it was all positive things. He thanked me for coming in offering my time, and my forklift expertise. He explained that there us a crown waiting for me in the afterlife for my service here.

I thanked him, and then gave my word that I would be present tomorrow. He told nr that if anyone else had given their word he would take it with a grain of salt, but not me.

I thanked him again, and then explained that I wished I had more time to offer. Explained new job starting Monday.

He said that if he were still in management that he'd hire Me on the spot. Again I thanked him he said that he still has connections, and that if I needed a reference on my resume that I need only ask.

    End of story

Now, this gives proof of the kind words said by many of you. If I can fit in here in less than a day, and be the rising star? I should be more than fine at my new job. I should excel. I'm not even being paid for this venture. Simply being present.

    humbling.

It appears VFTuner has been updated to version 1.5 to support our 1st gens today? Anyone mess with it yet? I'm used to subarus and cobb tuners. I assume I need OV's tuner and tune or is there an easier way to eek a little more HP or calibrate our speedometers with this?

Very interesting. That could push me over the edge. Been meaning to jump into that for the Tacoma.

Upon parking tonight after my last two days of San Diego to Clovis to San Carlos (day 1) to Monterey to Palm Springs and then Palm Desert (day 2) I apparently ejected the lens to my side signal marker somewhere along the way. I think it probably happened towards the end of my drive today. I actually have all the replacement lights in the bed, ready to swap in, along with the new bumper and a Mr Marv sub box for the Tacoma. I guess it’s time to fix up the front end while I’m here.

Have you tried salting the earth? I threaten it around the house from time to time. But if I found myself battling some demonic zombie vine/ivy/bamboo for more than a year or two, I'd burn and then salt and then wait.

    GD
If I still had my EPIQ 68, I'd feel poor af right now.
    That's a serious setup.

It's mostly just adding timing where the engine will take it without adding knock, then adjusting fuel to restore AFRs.
The problem with tuning is that it has a tendency to be octane specific...or you tune for lower octane and then you can tank-up with what you like.
    OR
You compile multiple maps and multiple protocols so that the EFI can adjust on the fly based on knock and AFR feedback loops. This is what Tier 1 calibrations and the best aftermarket calibrations are doing. It's what separates the impeccable drivability of Tier 1 ECUs from aftermarket/standalone ECUs that drive great most of the time.

After the last 2 days of driving which added up to around 1050 or so ish miles, some thoughts.
    1. Steering wheel controls would be very nice to have. I made significant use of the remote control which came with my Pioneer 4660 but it'd be nice to have bigger buttons for volume.
    2. Granted I have a depo set on the driver side but stock lighting is pathetic in all aspects, fogs, signals, combo and especially headlights. Only helpful for being seen really, not for actually seeing.
    3. Backup camera is super high on the list of work. And headlights/taillights/shell lighting. Those will be nice upgrades
    4. Suspension is toast, I am so ready for the new leafs, shocks and coils.
    5. Turning radius is sub-optimal. I remember that from owning it before as well. Don't think there's a thing I can do about it. U-turns in particular kinda suck.
    6. Seats are adequate but not awesome. Seat belts similar. I'll probably remove and send out the belts once I have some downtime scheduled, it'd be nice to have them retract cleanly.
    7. Engine power and reliability were every bit as impeccable as I remember. Truly fantastic, even one time when I didn't realize I had left it in 2 and it got revved up a bit higher than expected.
    8. Transmission is great with stock gears and tires. Going to 4.56 is going to rev higher at 75-80 mph.
I'm betting this is likely one of my last road trips of this distance in this truck, unless we decide to move out of state. All future road trips will most likely be in the Tacoma which is more comfortable. I'll see though, how the lift, gears, and tires affect things if I get the gears done. I am not 100% sure about the gears, to be honest. I wish I could try and see before deciding. I worry that 3.909 to 4.56 is a big jump and since I'm staying with 16's, if I don't go E on tires, I'm probably no more than 1" over stock diameter. I don't mind going slower but the way traffic flows in so cal on freeways, it's just nuts really. I noticed my stress level jump significantly once I got back in range, everyone drives so loco down here, it's a lot of accelerating, braking and lane changes with no safe spots to just cruise grampa style.

One thing which is truly amazing is how much space an 8' bed with shell provides. I took a ton of stuff, picked up a ton of stuff, and I have at least 2/3 empty for more stuff. And I'm not even really organized yet.

    With regards to the U-turn/turning-radius:
LSD/Locker and a healthy dose of throttle will tighten that radius right up. :D

    Gears:
If you're not going over 31s or 32s, I'd consider 4.30 gears if you're after a bit more grunt to offset additional weight.

    Long distance cruising:
I really enjoyed driving my truck to WV and back over the summer. It was ~600 miles each way with all our gear in the backseat and my MTB in the back. Being able to recline the seat was really nice and 85% of why I bought an AC instead of a RC. Maybe look into those seat elevator things that we all got to see over the last week.

Was the consensus that it's not a great idea to lock the front? Have any members done it?

The irony so far is that I ordered 4.56, lsd and front arb locker. So far I’ve received two LSD’s, 2x7.5 4.56 gears and three bearing kits. No locker. Super confused. Might just send it all back at this point though I think the LSD is nice.

On the seat stuff, it’s not uncomfortable at all. The leather is nice and heaters will be even nicer once I get the switches going. It’s just more comfortable in the Tacoma. Most of which is likely bucket vs bench and new vs old. I could see doing Lexus bucket seats in the Tundra in 10 years once the boys are too big to fit both of them on the bench. Then a really big sub center console. For now, for me, bench is ideal for the next decade.

Mostly I was impressed with how great it was. Not particularly fuel efficient but overall quite pleasant. With a new suspension and lift it might be even better. Slightly bigger tires on stock gears will make 75-80 even easier on the rpm’s. It’s really quite nice for a long road trip overall. But it really can’t beat the Tacoma in anything other than ability to transport tons of stuff / long stuff.
