Hello all, I’m still new to the forums and have searched for a couple hours now and still can’t find what I’m looking for. I currently have stock running boards on my 2018 crewmax and am curious how much lower the amp steps are than stock if someone could measure their amp boards. Thanks!

    Hey, welcome!
I had the Amp Research side steps on my Tundra when I bought it. Not sure the difference in height from stock when they're down (it's at least a few inches if I had to guess), BUT just a word of caution: What I didn't like about them was how much they can bind when retracting if they are not mounted perfectly or maintained well (mine were neither!). Unless they changed the design, there is actually no way to really adjust them if they start binding. If you do go with them, make sure to keep them lubed real good. I replaced mine with N-Fab rock sliders that have the removable steps for when I go off-roading. Honestly happy I made the switch.

I have the standard AMP Powersteps on my '17 Limited DC and I installed them in 2018. The upper surface is about 9-3/4" below the door sill when deployed. Note that they also have an XL version which they say is 3" lower. The length as shipped was about 80" end cap to end cap which is sized for the CrewMax. I had to cut off about 13" for my DC. There is not much maintenance - just spray the hinges with silicone. They suggest you do it each time you wash the truck - I do it about twice a year and they continue to work great.

Yes, I know but it turned out OK. Took my time and carefully used a Sawzall. The ends caps hide the unmachined ends. A cutoff wheel would have been better but I didn't have one at the time.

Nobody knows what “stock” boards you have to make a comparison. But the amps drop about 6” below the door sill, if that helps.

Thanks everyone for the advice and maintenance tips! Since they are lower than the stock I’m going to go ahead and order them so the wife will be happy and able to get in the truck easier

Good luck. FYI....my height from the ground to the surface of the running boards is about 11.5" in the front and 13" in the rear...I have a slight lift in the rear, less than 1.5".

What model N-FAB sliders are these? Great idea having removable steps!

I have 11 inches from the ground, 10 inches down from the sill, for the AMP Boards.. AMP recommends Silicone for lube. Used it for years, all types, had issues, now I've been using a good penetrating oil on all hinges.... Know it's not recommended but past 2 years zero problems
