What's the range on the fob remote start? (not the app, the fob)

Some sort of social media blast would probably get Toyota's attention faster and be easier for people to add their voice. I have no experience in that field, but maybe someone can set up a website or twitter campaign?

outdoors was pretty decent - a couple hundred feet. Inside buildings, 30~50ft (it wouldn't work in the far end of my home).

I'd love to sue them over this. They never made it publicly known that to use key fob auto start you need to pay them AND give them all your data.

Anyone who is interested pm me, I'm serious as a heart attack. I called and left a complaint, the woman told me to email as well because it goes higher up the chain. So I sent an email as well. If we got enough people to make noise they would back down.

If they did this same thing with the sun roof, would that motivate people to complain? Large corporations constantly stepping on little people because we do nothing.

So other than the principle of being charged to use something like that, I really don't care then. That's a completely useless range. My aftermarket AstroStart 2 way system with fob has a legit 1 mile range.

You can join forces with the guy a few months ago suing over the Transmission Cooler wording.

I'm still waiting for his ground breaking news that he was going to tell us tomorrow.

There's quite a few more youtubers catching onto and discussing this.
    https://youtu.be/GLlzAv2GTdc

If you don't care about giving up your data and being forced to pay a subscription to use hardware you paid for, fine. Hell, call toyota up and tell them to do it to your sun roof too. Request just to yours, thanks.

So that's the deal, not your problem right now so screw everyone else? Cool, thanks for nothing. At least you come into a thread that doesn't have anything do with you or effect you and make useless comments lol

From what I can tell, no one on here has had any services taken away yet, everyone's FOB still works to start their truck if they already had it.

If people buy a 2022 and it's in the agreement and they sign and don't read it, there is nothing to complain or sue over.

Everyone is getting all worked up over something that has not happened yet and likely won't happen on previously purchased vehicles.

We will see what happens. If they decide to charge for it on new trucks, that is their right. Like it or not. People will just buy aftermarket starters.

Sue them and keep us posted on your efforts.

My fob does not work. Anyone who declines to have their location and every other thing they collect withheld loses the ability to use the auto start on their key fob. I was on the phone for like 40min and was told this is the new policy directly by toyota.

So, no. Everyone's fob isn't working.

I have a 2021. I don't know how far it goes back in year range. Decline the data collection, lose your fob auto start.

Decline the data collection, install a vastly superior aftermarket starter...

I'm looking into that, should that be necessary on a truck of this price? I don't think so. It came with one lol albeit a lame ass one :D

I think a 2 way, one mile range remote starter should be standard on any truck sold in the northern zones same as a block heater. They charge us extra for the block heater though...

Agreed. I lived above the 45th parallel for 7 years. Long hard winters.

The larger issue about this is, if we let what toyota is doing slide, they'll start charging and demand data for more shit. People have to speak up or they'll go bananas.

I just bought the $80/year on my 2021 Venza for remote connect
Maybe the system has yet to be updated to properly handle 2022 Tundra, and you have almost a year to renew anyway so by then you should be able to.

Also, it looks like remote connect alone costs $80/year.

Dynamic navigation, safety connect, each also costs $80/year. I only want remote connect to check on vehicle status via my phone for peace of mind. But navigation and other crap? hell effing no

and delusional. Nobody in their right mind will spend $80/year on Toyota navigation, when you can use Google maps for free with projection. You can argue that nothing is free and you pay it with your privacy and personal data, but in Toyota's navigation's case, you pay it with privacy too plus another $80 a year out of your pocket

Confirm that my fob worked after the one year connected services expired.

I lost that functionality when I disabled the Data Master Consent. Per a previous post, “if it’s free, you’re the product”, I suppose.

I am disappointed that Toyota insists I have to share my data (see previous screenshots) in order to use that hardware functionality.

Be very careful on aftermarket alarm/remote starting systems. I would research the hell out of who is doing the work, what is covered if there is a problem, how the system is wired up. We have had a "few" truck fires that look like it starts under the drivers side firewall. One thing that has been constant is aftermarket "something" like remote start or alarm.

So use caution on this. Lucky nobody has lost a house/life over the fires.

Hey folks, if anything, Toyota is way late to the party on this.
All of the premium German brands have had this in play for years. Our domestic auto companies are playing catch-up as well (Ram and Jeep both charge for UConnect).
And there's not an EV for sale now with over-the-air updates (which the '22 Tundra will have) that doesn't offer this too.
Hey, it's $8/mo., it just is what it is...and if that dog doesn't hunt for you, then you'll have to find another pooch.

My current won’t fit in the garage (and a new one won’t either), but I can walk my fat *** out there and crank it. Remote start would be most helpful for me at work, it’s nice to have a warm drive home in the winter. But I’m not letting my truck sit running with the key in where my office is at.

I wouldn’t leave it running either with the key in the ignition. I’m fortune to have a gated compound with armed guards where I work, and can park inside when the weather is crappy. I still wouldn’t.

Nope. And it's not tied to the Head Unit either, because I don't have the factory one anymore and all my stuff still works, still reports to my dealer about warnings and mileage.
