Had the check engine light come on about 6 wks ago...diagnostics read P0418....delayed repairs for research/quotes, then, the Trax Ctrl (Vehicle with squiggly lines) light came on also about a week ago. Shop did another diagnostics and got an additional code P2432. They replaced "air injection pump bank 1", this successfully got rid of P0418 but not the other code, the P2432. They now suggest replace the "air check valve bank 1"....thoughts?

The valves are a pair on the 5.7 so both will be replaced. Not sure if pumps are a pair too, but if you already as those replaced may as well do the valves as they should be cheaper than pumps.

That said, there are many threads on here about the Hewitt bypass kit which is an option as well.

@Dalandshark thanks for your response! So, I went back in this morning and they went-ahead and replaced the part that the protocol says we should try next (what I mentioned in my initial post above: "air check-valve bank 1" and it worked! Lights on dash are gone, runs and accelerates/shifts smoothly with power! For the benefit of the forum, to be clear on my engine type: I have the 4.6L engine (not the 5.8L)....I am very happy with the outcome. The folks that did this were honest at a fair price and this didn't require the bypass kit, fyi. Thanks again for inputs and help! Jim in San Antonio

I would still put the bypass kit on, as there are multiple failure modes in the PAIR system and you may run into more issues down the road.

Great to hear @Vistallp . I think the valves for the 4.6 are about half the price too.

Yeah, I feel ya (I think).....so yesterday, "check engine" came on again; took it by O'Reilly to use their diagnostic reader; P2445 - Secondary Air Injection System Pump Stuck Off Bank 1" .....ugh! Can someone send the link to the bypass kit spoken of? I must say however, that when we "bypass" something, it would seem that we're losing some sort of benefit, no? (even IF we are avoiding other problems)....

Thanks much for your inputs...just went to the website and have reached out to them to see if they think I can purchase/install separate component(s) vs. the whole kit since I've already sunk money into replacing the pump and the valve. It was mentioned polllution at first startup: can/will I be able to pass an annual state emissions test then?

PS: any thoughts on if it's safe to drive the truck while awaiting the kit/install with this new P2445 error?

You'll pass the test if they just plug into the obd port or put sensors in your tail pipe. If you live in california, it's 50/50.

Your truck is probably in limp mode, so it won't be super easy to drive, but you won't hurt anything.

Thanks again; I reached out to Hewitt and here is the response....thoughts?

"I am glad you found us and happy to help you navigate SAIS issues. The first question we need to ask is if the shop who did the repairs use factory components or aftermarket parts? We see a lot of issues with aftermarket parts, the poor quality can cause issues like this.

The P2445 could be caused by two issues. First, the new pump may not be producing enough air pressor to register on the senor. Second, we commonly see issues where after market pressure sensor do no read correctly. I have a feeling this is what we are dealing with. Unfortunately, all of our kit addons are engineered to work in tandem with the bypass kit.

You have two options in regard to our bypass kit but since we are dealing with a pressure sensor issue you would also need an addon. I have presented the options below.

    Gen II $450

    - Our Gen II kit emulates the operation of the SAIS and ECM reads as Ready/Completed. It also eliminates all trouble codes dealing with the SAIS with the exception of the pressure sensor. Installs at the Air Injection Driver and Air Switching Valves.

+ Covers both mechanical and Electrical SAIS error codes

+ Compatible with Toyota's current ECM Computer flash

+ Compatible with Flex Fuel Modes

    + Clears permanent codes

    Kit Addon

    Pressure Sensor Option $225

    Gen I $230

    - Our V54H kit will prevent the SAIS from operating on a cold start and ECM will read as Not Ready/Incomplete. With this unit, all of the SAIS parts/components will need to remain in place for the computer to see continuity on them. Installs at Mass Air Flow sensor and Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Also, the starter relay wire will need to be ran from the bypass module to a terminal inside the fuse box. Please note some vehicles experience an intermittent chocking start issues with this bypass kit.

+ Covers only mechanical SAIS error codes*

*Kit Addons needed for each the following codes

    P0418 - Needs Pump Proxy Pack ($155)

    P0419 - Needs Pump Proxy Pack ($155)

    P0412 - Needs Valve Solenoid Pack ($75)

    P0415 - Needs Valve Solenoid Pack ($75)

    Kit Addon

    Pressure Sensor Jumper $75

    Or

    Pressure Sensor Replacement Double $250

    * When placing your order online be sure to select your Model/Year/Engine size to ensure you receive correct kit

Please note, if there is any damage to the pressure sensors Kit Addons would been need for both Gen I and Gen II Kits. Let us know if you have any additional questions"

Sounds like they are recommending the gen 2 kit and the pressure sensor.

looking at getting this kit; thanks again for all the advice folks! Question: was this issue with the Tundras fixed on subsequent model years? Reason: I'm thinking about just trading for another newer model...thx

The system has been revised to address certain issues but is still prone to failure. For whatever Tundra you end up with, bypassing this system is highly recommended.
