Nope. I get what I get. According to my glass guy, it doesnt matter what name is on it. All the aftermarket glass comes from the same factory.

Got another zip code close? This was my quote for your truck in PA.

A lot of insurance now will pay for chips so they don't have to pay for the whole glass. I asked my agent and it doesn't affect your policy, I've had a half dozen or so repaired through insurance.

That seems hard to believe unless those particular aftermarket companies available to him to use do it that way.

That's good to know. I was just worried they would bill out over a grand for a windshield and my deductible is a thousand.

In pasadena, the place i took everyones car for glass never cost more than $200 but that was 7 years ago, but telling people to back off the tailgating really worked myself out of a job.

@Tundra2 sounds like you've had a rough week, man. And it's barely halfway done. Things do happen sometimes in convenient order. Good on you for seizing the opportunity to be a rock when others need it. I'll just say, don't forget about yourself. Shit you see can impact you in ways you may not notice right away. I learned way too early in life how to emotionally detach and go numb to stuff, head down, focus on the task at hand ... it left me with some baggage that took a long time to unpack. But whatever. I'm rambling.

Not Safelite, but the guy who did the 2020 mentioned two interesting things. They could go OEM or aftermarket if they don't think the existing ones are in good enough shape. But the more interesting thing to me, he mentioned the roof rack rubbers are the thing that usually end up peeling up afterward, and he prefers to replace them on any car over 15yo. "Toyota uses a little bit of adhesive to hold some of those on, and customers will bitch when they're driving down the road and they start flopping around". That may be what alb1k is talking about here:
    Or maybe I'm wrong?

It's the way a lot of things are these days, at least in the electronics world. One factory is contracted to make products for multiple products. Different pricing available depending on options and quality. You want C quality, you pay x% less. You want B quality you pay y% more. You want A quality, you pay z% more.

You'll see evidence of this a lot on scAmazon. Exact same product, with different names, often times in ALLCAPS and randomized. Every Google search takes you back to scAmazon, no real store front. You can buy 6 of them with the same name, and they're basically the same item, although the threading may be slightly nicer finished on one versus the other, or maybe the finishing is better.

This is what our life is now. China is a manufacturing powerhouse, cheap labor, and wild array of options to fit any budget.

That is too much poop for one person.

So I’ve re-read this and I definitely read, “I mean, if it wasn’t 12 at a time…” and now my comment seems less funny/appropriate.

@shifty` PPG is still its own glass company and doesn't fall under any other glass conglomerate from what I see. So it appears not all aftermarket glass companies are sourcing from the same manufacturer.

I'll have to check my new car insurance. I was getting Met Life through work at a group discount, but now I'm under Farmer's.

I feel like that risk should be for the consumer to assume or decline.

The odds of forking up your windshield by a rock or road debris or animal attack are significantly higher than hitting that thing with your face. (Or so I’m leading people to believe…)

Don't worry as you get older, the detail fades away with your eyesight. You'll regret having a tube at that time.

I don't have cable either but I believe in the immersive experience when watching a movie.

Same 5 movies? They must be good movies.

In my experience, avoid safelite. They fucked the sea up 3 times in my Tacoma and were assholes about fixing it. Mom and pop shops are the best usually. Order the seal from Toyota and have them install it
