Looks like you’ve got an aftermarket billet grille, not the OEM limited grille. Nice that the surround is already color matched.

Have you tried removing the aluminum piece from the upper slot to see what’s behind it? You might have the OEM black plastic piece in there. I’m not sure that piece was available to purchase separate from the grille. It was in the early grille, but I’m not sure about the ‘10-‘13 grille.

Finally committed to doing this mod. Everyone’s info has been super helpful!

Picked up a used 2010 grill from Facebook marketplace for $30 and ordered the new pro style insert from Alibaba yesterday for $150 shipped to MD. Just need the grill kit from Sparks and I should be good to go.

I’m also waiting for new headlight fillers to arrive (broke both of mine while installing new headlights) then I’ll get the grill surround and fillers paint matched.

Not a great picture, but such a great transformation! Many thanks to those who’ve shared their process.

I'm planning on putting my Sequoia TRD Pro grill on my truck this week, so I will have a chrome limited surround (2012) available in Colorado shortly if anyone needs the surround still.

Got quoted $400 for paint... so it'll be staying chrome for a while.

I got decent results with a color matched base and a 2K clear over. Both came out of rattle cans and I had less than $100 into it. Prep wasn't too bad, just clean really well and scuff with a red pad.

I received my grill with no Toyota lettering from the guy on Alibaba. Did anybody else have this issue? Not even sure where I would purchase the letters if I have to…

I would love to buy this grill... I just purchased a 2008 SR5 Tundra and it's got the OEM chrome that is peeling off.

Would you mind sharing the link to buy this exact grill and Toyota letters?

Just wanted to say thanks to all that have posted about this mod. When the TRD Pro's first launched I wanted to do this to my 13' RW but never did anything. Then this past weekend I was browsing Instagram and saw a picture of my same truck with this mod and knew I had to make it happen. Fortunately a quick web search brought me here and now my grill is on it's way from the seller on Ali ($154.49/shipped). Hopefully I can still grab a 3D printed insert from @Rube207 and then I'll be dialed. I haven't done anything new to my truck in five plus years, so it feels good to show it some love.

And for anyone concerned with the Ali grills, I used the link posted in this thread, paid the night of the 15th, shipped on the 16th, and arrived on the 18th. Looks like they're shipping from Southern California.

For those that have done this, are you removing the grill insert and shroud from the truck (on a 2013) or are you just removing the old insert and installing the new insert? Might try and tackle this on my lunch break Friday.

Not sure how long your lunch break is, but you will want a little devoted time to get the grille insert out of the surround. It’s a pain.

Start on one side with a screwdriver or pry tool and work your way around. It will feel like you’re going to break it the whole time, and you may. Eventually you can work them apart.

This is the front of the truck take your time. As Rob said it can be a pain to separate but can be done without breaking anything. I had my old chrome one to try on first but didn’t need it.

Install wasn't too bad, took about 45 minutes. When removing the old insert from the surround, I found it easiest to start at the bottom and work my way around using a 1/8" blade standard screwdriver. Now I just need to get my printed piece from Rob and wash my damn truck.

This thread made me want one so figured I’d share, might be my favorite cosmetic mod (with the Morimoto headlights). Definitely updates the truck nicely, especially from that round 07-09 grill. Painted it myself with some automotive touch up spray paint I had left over and 3D printed a TSS insert, need to make another one, it doesn’t sit quiet right. I’m planning on cutting out the plastic behind

Looks great! How did you prep the grill for paint? Was yours already painted or chrome?

Has anyone prepped and painted a chrome grill surround? Debating on whether or not the chrome needs to be stripped off before painting. Even after roughing up the surface, it seems very smooth and not ideal for paint to adhere to it. Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks! I really like how it updates the truck.
It was just a black plastic grille. I sanded it, primed paint and clear. I think I sanded just to 180, don’t remember though, cleaned and dried very thoroughly between too. Waited a couple days between color and clear though, when I painted my other grill, valence and little piece under the headlight I sprayed clear after a couple hours and it krazed after a month. So far this one looks good though

Purchased the Alibaba TRD Pro grill insert in August of last year - finally got around to getting it installed!

Removing the surround from the truck was easy - however, just a note to the folks going to do this. Once you have all of the 10mm bolts undone, there are 5 plastic pins holding the grill to the truck on the top. Pull hard towards you and they snap out.

I used Automotive Touchup paint for the color match. I think it turned out pretty well for a rattle can job. It is not 100% perfect by any means, but it is pretty darn good (and way better than the chrome). I could've done a better job during the paint process, but I was pinched on time and didn't have 1,500-2,000 grit sandpaper to touch up splatters in between coats. For $60 worth of spray paint and a few hours of time, I am very satisfied. Hopefully it holds up to the elements, if not, I'll get it professionally painted in a few years.

Thank you to the OP for all the work that went into pioneering this!
