I think we all already know why, but I'd love to hear him squirm as he tried to explain it away.

I feel like if a simple fix like that would've gotten them the economy and numbers they wanted, Toyota would've gone that way. It would've been a lot cheaper to tweak the 5.7 than to come up with a new engine. I'm sure they spent millions in R and D on the new 3.5 even though it was a redesign of the LS 500 engine.

When you only produce 100,000 units a year, you can't have a ton of different options. Otherwise you will be in financial trouble.

I would argue because your answer is no #1 is NO, then that's a problem

I'd argue because your answer is no to #2, then why spend the same or more money on that model?

Reliability is a gamble at this point, although Toyota does have the track record. But if your owning for 5yrs and trading in. Reliability is pretty much a moot point.

Or they could have just assumed the v6 would be so much better than what it is, and never really put any time or energy towards the v8. I get why they did it, thinking everything is eventually moving away from v8s. I bet they could have redesigned the v8, (or designed a new one) to have the same or better numbers as the v6 if they had put the same money and effort as the v6. I mean look at gm and ford, if im not mistaken, the 5.3 gets similar or better than this new v6.

Toyota will always be fighting the brand loyalty that goes back generations that they will never win. Even if they came out with a truck twice as good, they still wouldn't concern the big 3.
I keep my trucks for 10 years so reliability is a concern for me. I also know multiple people who have had engines and transmissions replaced in the first 20000 miles on the domestics so it's not even long term reliability.

I highly doubt the 5.3 is rated for 24 mpg highway...

First one at my dealer is a white TRD 4x4…. Just like my last two Tundras. Wonder if this is a sign?

    My thoughts (before driving):
From a distance I thought it may be a Tacoma.
Lots of plastic body parts including rear bumper and rocker.
Toyota could have easily designed in tow hooks that didn’t affect aerodynamics.
The front fender liners aren’t plastic. They’re some carpet type material that I don’t see holding up to mud.
The black on a-pillar is definitely a decal just like b-pillars.

With all that said, it is a nice looking truck in person. We’ll see how it drives.

If you really think the V8 isn't worse than the V6 in terms of environmental pollution then you're just ignorant or refuse to accept the facts. It's not up for debate.

Lol, you don't counter anything. Instead you just state that your right.

If a prius ran around a race track at the same speed a V8 M3 does and gets worse MPG. Is the prius hurting the environment more or the M3?

No. . No. . No. . .I disagree. . I feel like a broken record I've stated this so many time. . I don't care if I trade every 3 years, I don't want a truck that's not reliable. . If there's anything worse than having a six year old vehicle that stays in the shop, it's owning a BRAND NEW one that stays in a shop, at a terrible dealer with a terrible service dept. Warranty or not, new or not, it sucks having a brand new truck and not having it because it's in the shop every other month.

What an absolute dumb comparison considering your hypothetical is impossible. The environmental effect that a car has isn't just measured by it's mpg by the way, there are a lot of contributing factors. I wouldn't expect you to understand them though since you can't even understand the correct forms of your and you're. Have a nice day.

I'd only point out that your senario has a new truck in right off the bat. Mine was it wouldn't start acting up bad until year 5 or older.

Right off the bat, brand new? I'd have to say I agree with you.

My point is driving a truck for truck things is going to make that V6 (non hybrid) as bad or worse than the V8.

Which was proven (sort of) by the Ram comparison.

Manufacturing a new fuel efficient vehicle generates far more emissions than just driving the old, fuel inefficient vehicle you already have.

But you also have to remember that 95% of the time trucks aren't being used for truck things and they are just commuters. Toyota knows that this is the majority of their customers. We use our trucks for commuting and then fun on the weekends. The number of tundras being used for work is a small majority so it makes way more sense to design the truck for the majority. If you really need a work truck, there are better options out there, you just have to decide what you are willing to compromise.

Going by that tfl video where he he was at the gas station on the way from picking it up. He said he was getting 18 something and that was highway. He said it wasnt broke in yet, but still. Not 100% sure, but ive heard the 5.3 gets the same or better.

The comparison with the Ram can’t be taken seriously because they only went by the trip computer in the trucks, which have been proven over and over again to not be accurate.

I agree. Both cars have the same environmental impact to produce. The only thing left to really compare is the efficiency difference from coal/natural gas powered electricity and gas on an MPG/MPGe equivalency. That’s it, nothing more. Ev’s cost 30/40% more so most people don’t give a shit to even compare.

Lot of emotion today on the boards.

Can we all just agree the Honda Ridgeline is the best pickup truck ever made. Spanks any full size with ease.
