We bought our 2021 TRD Pro about 6 months ago and since then we have caught scumbags messing with (trying to steal) it on 3 different occasions, including 3 this morning! Who knows how many times we DON'T know about! I bought a 'Club' to help with security, and a 'CATSHIELD' to protect the Catalytics, but as I am leaving to work in Africa in a week, I wanted more. Wife will be driving it and I don't want her to have to deal with any Bull$h1t while I'm gone. Today I'm having top of the line security installed. Gonna have a new head unit and front facing camera installed too. (Helps with parking that beast!)[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Drilling was the most nerve racking part of the install. That’s the reason why I held off for so long. The roof is about 1/4 inch thick. I used a step bit to get down to 3/8 and then used an actual 3/8 bit to clean up the hole. I used a good amount of sealant when I installed the rivnuts and then the spacers as well. Longevity of the seals is still to be determined. Once the sealant cures, I’m going run a hose over the roof to see if there are any leaks.

Why was it such a pain?

That would the most nerve racking for me too, thats what holds me back. So it sounds like there's a hollow cavity between the outer layer of the roof and the inner layer? And the fastener anchors to the underside of the outer layer?

I dropped one of the hood bolts down a hole into the body panel, the cord they sent to hook up to the oem switch/button that goes next to the traction control button was to short, had to use another cord and connect everything together, TIGHT ass spaces and I have large hands... I was glad to to have it done.

Removed my RCI transmission/transfer case skid (1/4" Aluminum) in preparation for my Valhalla shields. Getting (hopefully) trans flush (terminology, however the dealer actually does it) this week before the shields come in. Had the transfer case fluids done about 15k ago (I'm at about 73k now). Also removed the OEM little skid, put the bolts back in with some anti-seize to protect the threads. Photos are just for fun, skid was put on about a month after truck was new, July 2017. Skid is totally fine, granted the most off-road it sees is snowmobile trails during hunting season. The bracket looks the worst, some of the powdercoat is peeling because it looks like I deformed it by tightening it down to much at install. The scratches on the frame is just from me using a wire brush to clean any crap off.

It’s solid all the way through, no cavity. The rivnuts compress against the inner part of the roof as you tighten down on it.

Thanks, I am doing that over my Christmas vacation and was wondering how tough it will be. I have medium hands so maybe I have an advantage for this install!

Smaller hands will help for sure. Mark where your hood mounts need to return to so when you tighten everything up you're sure you have it aligned.

And the nylon/polymer pry bars are useful if you don't want to scratch up your plastic interior removing the inner panel (if you're installing an oem switch)

I posted in another thread, Murphys law was wrote for me, maybe it was wrote for "we" :D

As I loosened the bolt that holds the hood bracket on and fumbled it right into a hole that dropped it down into the body panel I let out a little chuckle followed by some unfriendly words :) :bananadead:

    Too many, but not enough....
Spent 2 days over this last weekend installing both my front anytime camera and switch, as well as wiring up my switch pro system with the power trays bracket and SDHQ battery terminal upgrade. Everything looks great but the install was a bitch with all the wires and trim removal. I also installed some SDHQ A pillar brackets but didnt have the time to wire the lights yet. Hardest part was punching the wiring through the firewall. Everything works and looks awesome but I am glad its done!

No idea, I hate that they removed it. Buy it, you won’t be disappointed. Between this and the steps, no more sliding off the edge of my seat when I get out.

Crash test ratings, on certain impacts the handle would intrude into the cabin and lower the ratings. Was a cheap way for them to help out the ratings a bit.

Need photos! Easiest way for me to get a wire through that firewall was wrap a long piece of coat hanger with a bunch of electrical tape, a bit of WD-40 (soapy water works in this case too), and slid through like a glove...

I can get some pics together. I actually taped everything to a steel wire fish coil that I had and used some dawn soap to help. I should clarify that the hardest part of it was cutting the rubber nipple that was under the main wire harness on the driver side of the firewall. Absolutely no room there for 2 hands. I ended up just knifing the nipple down the center and punching through by force with the tip of the wire fish.

Did the complete transmission flush via the trans cooler lines, piece of cake. I've seen different videos with different methods of pumping after doing the pan: pump a quart at a time and refill it and do another, pump 3 quarts at a time and refill 3 and go again, one guy overfilled the trans by many quarts and pumped all the old out until he saw new fluid being pumped. I did 2 quarts at a time after draining and refilling the pan. Used my OBD Fusion program to check the level in the correct temp range. IMG_0392.jpg
