I have a 2016 SR5 with the TSS Off Road package. I love the truck but hate the radio. What is a good, somewhat budget friendly alternative that still uses the onboard GPS?

You'll find a ton of options and info on that site ^^. We also have a vendor who is active on the site that has made a bunch of folks much happier with their system.

What is your budget? What, exactly, are you expecting to get from changing out your system? There are many options to look at. Many people on this forum, retain the OEM head unit, add a DSP, 5 channel amp and better speakers. Some people (such as myself), gut the entire crap system and start from scratch. Again, it all depends on budget and end-goal. Once you have answered those two questions, I would contact @james@tech12volts as he has helped a huge number of people on this forum with upgrading their audio (yours truly, included!).

Really, I’m not usually in the truck long enough to worry about having better sound quality. The main thing I want, is Apple Car Play so that when I do take a trip, I can listen to my music, and receive and send texts hands free. I know I can play Apple Music with the existing Entune, but it sounds like an old record player with all the scratches and pops in the background.

Sounds to me like you actually DO care about the "sound quality". Regardless, the same advice still stands. Answer the two previously mentioned questions, then call James@tech12volts.

How did you get a browser and games? By plugging in a mini computer to the HDMI?

The 28 Pin cable on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254649303954

This cable activates your A/V on radio. It's about $12. This cable also allows video in motion. That cable is a RCA. I then bought a RCA to HDMI converter for $11.99. And then bought a HDMI adapter $19 that fits perfectly into the empty switch spot under radio. Right now my power cable for the RCA adapter is ran under the center console and up to the 12 volt plug but I plan on buying another cable that will hard wire the micro usb behind radio. When I get a change I'll pull radio out and take better pics.

But yeah I have a cast device I use to cast from my phone. I mostly plug in my Amazon fire stick which has all my streaming services and an internet browser. Fire stick has a few games but I use my NVIDIA Sheild Tablet for better Games like Half Life 2. I kinda wish my truck had a wifi service so I don't have to hotspot from my phone.

I also have a Bluetooth keyboard I use for when searching the internet in truck.

About to Add Sub. Found a good adapter for RCA that taps into stock Entune Radio.

Also picked the subs up for 29.99 Black Friday normally $119 each. Not sure how they will sound but couldn't pass up the deal.

Dude I just bought my 2015 and got rid of a 2007 tahoe the FACTORY stereo was light years ahead in sound and reception. When I talk to people about it they say "oh I just bluetooth my music"..... Well excuse me for wanting to be able to hear some decent auditory eardrum candy from my local station. Geez.

Yeah. I that would’ve been sweet to see. I have a buddy with a ‘16 sr5. I think something like this would peak his interest. Especially with adding the sub.

Yeah I'll take some more picks the next I mess with it. It's surprisingly easy and quick to pull the read head unit to install this type stuff on this truck.

Thanks. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long to get it. They start building the last week of December, said it should be ready by 2nd week of January.
