We can theorize that the Tundra would be faster up the hill given a higher speed limit, but there’s no real way to know what actual throttle setting each engine was using based on the video. Everything is drive by wire now, and TFL doesn’t plug into the OBD II to capture data like trans temp, throttle opening %, and other useful data.

Should they? From a geek out standpoint yes, from a video quality and entertainment standpoint probably not.

They have quite a few in their fleet. They also got some loaners to do a bunch of testing a few weeks back I thought. I believe they chose the V8 Ram because it was a very similar/comparable model/price and to your point that's what they had on hand.

This is one area they should be breaking the law. Punch it while going 60 and see who gets to 70 the fastest. Real world valuable information.

I agree. Better yet they should find a long grade with a speed limit higher than 60 MPH.

I would settle for a 50-60 run. Simulate being stuck behind slow car and then running back up to the speed limit. Seems like all trucks are able to make this run now so they are going to need to find away to separate the trucks.

What I haven't heard mentioned is that the Ram did as well as it did at that altitude...The Ram actually had a lot of disadvantages at that Altitude and the Tundra was pretty much running like it would at any altitude. Here is the 2016 Tundra doing the same thing, with more weight, and a less aerodynamic load. It was noisier, and it was revving hard but it was at 11,000 ft or more on that run. It was also pretty much towing at max. The 2022 in the test still had a few thousand pounds to go. Kind of interesting

I'm fine with the Yota 4.7's and the 5.7l. Currently have three in the family with a collective 500k miles and towing often in the Four Corner states.

My thoughts are that everyone expects that Toyota would be
I’m starting to realize that Hollywood is getting to our boy Andres from TFL, a lot of drama in the comparison video…. clearly they love the Ram with the Hemi sound but the Tundra did better in all aspects except the seat comfort issue (which could be subjective) but a few others have mentioned it so it’s probably a thing. Look guys, they need to give Toyota more shit because everyone knows they can do much better, everyone expects Toyota to be better so they have to make a scene out of it for entertainment purposes. Toyota can do better but it might come at a higher cost perhaps.

AndreiWood & sidekick need to go back to what made them loved by everyone; honest non biased review with less drama. I still love them but “one” can see through their smiles that the Tundra is way way better than that Hemi vs what they expected or hoped. Especially when they both said how effortlessly it towed with plenty of power left, lower interior noise, non drama tow experience. That Tundra did not blow it’s wad compared to the other twin turbo truck, that shows me it has more to give. I think they were expecting more drama and they didn’t get it. Still love you AndreiWood if you happen to see this message. Keep up the great work.

What is kind of funny is that TFL did the same match up in 2014. Tundra/Ram and it was pretty much identical results, Tundra a couple of second slower Ram was at 7:50 and Tundra was like 7:52. Not much of a difference over all those years same road, same altitude. I think the 2014 test they were towing a car on a trailer that weighed 7K

Toyota pretty much did exactly the same as the last time they tested the Ram and Tundra in 2014. I would have expected the Tundra to do much better with the Turbo at altitude.

Took 15 years to get a truck that barely measures up to what is currently on the market. I hope Toyota doesn't wait another 15 years lol. Can't imagine the sales #s of this Tundra in 5 years.

They drive a set speed on a set distance. They can’t do any better for time. What is noticeable is how much quieter and easier the new tundra accomplished the task.

How does it "barely measure up"? By what metric are you basing this off?

I am 100% certain that if the 22 Tundra came with V8 that provided identical test results as the TT3.5, the Tundra would have been awarded the win.

Having owned turbo vehicles before, I can appreciate the effortless power at elevation. The new Tundra seems like it delivers. I really like everything (but one thing) I have seen so far. But, I don't like how the infotainment system is a collaboration with Google. I don't mean it has a Google app, I mean it was developed with Google.
Toyota is now pivoting to revenue based on selling data and services. I really hate that, I can tolerate my smartphone being that way, but this is shady territory for Toyota.
I also worry that Toyota will make your data available to the government for "pay per mile" tax schemes that seem to be a hot topic lately. Ever wondered how a State would know how many miles you drive in that State for these new taxation proposals?
I don't like Toyota collaborating with Google.

As appealing as the new Tundra is, I feel my current truck is just fine. The added MSRP and possibly paywall and spyware in the truck has completely dampened my enthusiasm.

Yes I know all the trucks are or will be this way.
    Now get off my lawn!

I think he means they have just barely matched the competition with this new truck, it's going to be easy for the rest of the manufacturers to leave it behind in a few years. Toyota had a chance with this truck to jump past the competition and they didn't, they basically matched what everyone else is doing or has been doing for awhile now.

Based off how many people on here try to defend the tow hook situation, I'm guessing Toyota made the right decision by ommiting them. Maybe some don't use them as much as others but they are good to have for just in case situations for recovery or helping someonce else. Does no one help pull people that have slid off the road on the snow for example? I have done that and now with the new one I would have to pass by and tell them I'm sorry I can't help. It's a truck, they should be there on at least the 4x4 minimum, no excuses.

Me yanking out this f350 that slid off the road with yes my front tow hooks.

How exactly would they jump past the competition? There’s only so far a truck can go without costing over a 100k. People are complaining as is about cost. What if every trim was another 5k more? Would it be worth it? Maybe the pro or capstone will impress more people.

I’m not sure why so many are upset. If you don’t like the tundra, go buy something else. Not really that hard of a concept.
