Not true. My 2017 Sierra Denali works perfectly with the free app and the free OnStar. They leave a bare minimum service active with OnStar for safety. App works well.
Now the 8L90 tranny is a whole different story. Which is why I joined this forum.

Yeah, they can't implement this on vehicles already purchased.

New vehicles, they can try. But people will go nuts.

At least it only will apply to model that have a remote start function. That’s something that I don’t want anyhow, so this stupidity won’t impact me

When we picked up our 2022 Corolla Cross last month they told us about this.

    First year is free.

I purchased a new Tundra in 2000. I've had similar epiphanies over the past 21 years when Toyota introduces a new generation. Upon this latest generation... the message was loud and clear.

I've always wondered if you don't renew your subscription and you end up in an accident will Toyota send out emergency services.

This sounds like the airline baggage fee. Generating revenue from a service that used to be free. I guess some executive @Toyota will be happy getting a huge compensation for this idea.

Toyota picked up on this idea with the collaboration with BMW and its Supra, the idea of a subscription on Apple Car play/Andriod Auto.

Another step/direction that Toyota would go is they'll get ride of the keyfob in the coming years and only have an app - Mind you BMW is going that route as long as you have your phone in your pocket, you can open your door as soon as you pull the handle just like keyless entry works today, except not having the key at all.

however, I think if WE the consumers don't speak up then don't be surprised if we start seeing ridiculous subscriptions for using the radio.
This is just an example of such a level of stupidity that Toyota would go to generate revenue.

The point is, Toyota is going to retroactively remove key fob 3x remote start.

This affects me as we own a 2020 Corolla that has key fob 3x start, our Toyota Connect trial subscription expired over a year ago. It was known that your key fob remote start would continue to work.
And ours did continue to work.
I don't mind if they want to charge for connected "smart" options, but remote start from a key fob is old school.

We need to complain, what's next, $0.01 for every time you unlock/lock your doors? Tell me, what's the difference? How would you like a bill "238 lock/unlock cycles, that'll be $2.38" not a big deal? Big deal to me.

I heard in Europe it's even crazier, Mercedes Benz has a subscription for rear wheel steering on their cars.

Want to be charged for using our headlights? AC?
Or, what if Toyota agrees to share driving data with the government to tax you? Or share your driving data with your insurance company?

And now that you’ve had a complimentary complaint, each additional one will be for the low cost of $4.99.

We will see how it plays out.

I don't think they will implement it for previously purchased vehicles and years. Has anyone been charged yet or had their remove fob start function disabled?

I'm sure we will have another 17 threads on the subject before anything actually happens. So there will be plenty more speculation and guessing.

    We'll see....

However it's been clarified that Toyota is, actually, going to retroactively disable our 3x key fob remote start.

If that happens, I'll get a Fortin module.

My remote start didn't work prior to hitting the finance chair at the dealership, by opting out of Connected Services with the salesman.

I never use the fob to start my truck. The signal distance seems inconsistent and I have a hard time getting it to work. That being said I do like the Toyota app. It works well for my 2021. There’s enough perks for me to renew my subscription on a yearly basis for the time being. That will also include starting my truck with the fob which I won’t use.

    Just to confirm....

As of today's date, has anyone been charged or had services removed that were previously free, on their Toyota vehicle?

    If not, it's all speculation.

That's how mine starts too. I prefer it over the push button start on our 2020 Rav4

We have a 2020 Corolla, purchased in 2019 Dec. The Toyota Connect services expired 12 months after we purchased the car.
As of yesterday, the 3x key fob remote start still works.
