    semi-soon… I don’t know either.
I’ve been refinishing/painting a set of wheels that’ll get the new tires, but not in a hurry since my current setup is fine.
This is what I like to hear. Since they’re a newer tire there isn’t a ton of history or reviews on them yet so this is good reassurance. For that I thank you. How are they wearing? Comparable to KO2’s

Ha. Thanks. Yea the more I look at it the less I like the black rims and the more I like the matte silver 4Runner rims that are on there currently. The question is should I keep the M/T tires or go to the Michelin defenders. I certainly don’t need the M/Ts, as I do a bulk of what little driving I do on the highway. The M/Ts are fun though. Having the defenders available in 285/70R17s keep the size to where I want it, however. It’s just the hassle of getting yet another set installed and selling the M/Ts. This is a good learning experience for me (or at least that is what I’m telling myself).

Well I didn't have the KO2s for very long (only about 9,000 miles) but these seem untouched for the 2500 miles I've ran them so far.

Well I might be crazy, but that's OK. I got the 285/70R17 Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires installed this morning and removed the M/Ts. Going to sell the M/Ts back locally. I took advantage of the instant rebate Discount tire was running to soak up the installation fee basically of the M/Ts last week. This was a bit frustrating but a good lesson for me. I think the LTXs look good and they drive very very smooth. But yea. A bit crazy on my end. Oh well.

One entire end of the box was crushed, but I can't find any cracks in the part. Seems to be intact. Before I can install, I need to fill the chips w/touch-up paint. At the rate life is going right now, that may take a couple weeks. Which is a bummer, can't wait to put it on.

In order of best to worst 1, 3, 2, 4 and it's a close contention on 1 and 4, with 1 just barely nudging out 4.

I like smoked-looking wheels on almost anything, but in most cases, all-black wheels look like shit on most vehicles, and I don't understand why people do it. Black wheel with black tire is just too much like-like to be attractive, unless you're going for a full blackout look ... which I also think looks bad most of the time.

I would've gone with a more aggressive looking tire than what you did to complement your altitude, but it still looks clean.

My alternator finally bit the dust. I’ve had a spare for the past 3 years since just about every time I go down to the Ozarks and get into some deep water it freaks out till it dries out…. So carried a spare and luckily didn’t need to change it out till it was in my driveway.

I replaced it with a Sequoia 150A alternator.

Got it in and out. Only one issue. The nut (middle mount) would not budge off the “stud bolt”. So the stud bolt had to come off. Took a bit of persuasion.

Currently mounted up and working fine (will be sitting in the driveway though) with just the upper and lower mounting bolts and feels solid. But….

Anyone know the part number or has a diagram the contains that stud bolt?

    Can anyone confirm 90099-04966?

Three car pileup behind me on 495. Car to the right of me drove 60mph through a huge puddle in a downpour. I got my windshield soaked in his wake along with the guy behind me. Difference is he locked up his brakes and I didn’t so it all happened in my rear view once I could see.

Changing out the front diff oil for the first time since the regear. Think they’ve broken in fairly well. A good 1/8th” of super fine shavings.

    Heather still not allowed back?

Tie rod end link has a decent tear in it. Is Moog or OEM replacement the way to go?

Such a clean 1st gen. I woulda filled out the wells a bit more with a size up, or three, but that's me. Cap and bumper lookin sweet, and dammit those clear corners make such a difference. I need those

I was looking at tie rod ends a while back. Mine are fine, but thinking heim and that kind of stuff. Anyway, I didn't see a lot of love for Moog, although I would use their LCAs again.

The outer tie rods are cheap enough you can go with OEM.

If they’re the best option, don’t really mind paying a little extra for them.

The point is you’re really not saving much of anything going aftermarket on them. I don’t know of any aftermarket ones that are better per se than OEM.

I did go with Moog on the inner tie rods years ago which were a decent savings and I have no complaints.

Thank you! It's been a fun build. Kind of bittersweet it's at the end. I know, I was thinking of going bigger, but the 285/70R17s is the biggest the make the defender in 17s. And I'm done swapping tires. Now I just need to resist the urge to change things for change's sake. I agree with you, would have been nice to fill out the wells a bit more, but I think it OK. Thanks on the cap and bumper, I am very happy with those upgrades and agree on the clear corners. Makes SUCH a big difference. One last thing this year is to get the BX Built headlights and then I'm done (I know we all say that...)

Looking back at the evolution of this. 1 was as purchased with 20s. 2 was with the 17s pre-lift and suspension work. 3 was post suspension work/lift and bumper but pre-shell. 4 was shell on 265/70s with rear leaf added. 5 was 285/70s M/Ts and 6 is how it sits today.

Well, finished replacing the PS axel to diff seal. If I never change the front diff oil again it’ll be too soon. There’s gotta be an easier way to fill the diff than what my Fred Flintstone self did… running a hose from the diff plug to the engine cab to connect to the oil jug. Oil everywhere, everywhere I tell you.

please baby Jesus let this have fixed my leak.

Be thankful you got the plugs out. For some people they can seize in place and they end up rounding off the hex plug trying to get it out.

I'll toss unpopular opinion out there:

I miss PHM big time, his permaban is one of the biggest losses this forum has seen, I wish it could be lifted. At the same time, I'm also grateful the mods somehow manage to keep politics in check here, even offer up a specific subforum for it if you just can't contain yourself and feel like expressing your personal politics is critical to your existence on the internet. Equal justice doesn't discriminate.

I think a great deal of us are just here to talk about trucks and DGAF what your political leanings are. That's cool if 90% of your identity is where you politically align. Just not how I was brought up. Humans are humans. You bleed, I bleed. You truck, I truck, let's share some common ground and enjoy something that unites us rather than put a flag in the ground that separates us.

Installed Natika back up camera. Basically used @MrDirtjumper install. Depending on your head unit you may or may not have to use a reverse trigger if you don't want. On my head unit there is a cam button so it can be turned on and off. I soldered into the trailer harness ground and switches 12volt. Ran along the frame with the other wire loom. Popped up with it peeled back the carpet a lil and finger rolled that baby up into the basket. PHM would've been impressed with the finger jujitsu used to fish the wire up to the stereo.
