From what I've read, Wool Wax is a good option but can create issues since it doesn't "creep" well. So you can essentially seal off an area and trap moisture and cause rust from the inside. I have no experience personally but that was something that I read. It does seem much more durable than fluid film and not so messy. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do but I've heard good things about PB Blaster's Surface Shield. It goes on more like FF but doesn't wash off nearly as easily.

Wool Wax will get pretty soft in summer, and then it will creep into pinch welds etc. I would go with Fluid Film if I had to do it now and the outside temps are below 70 F. You can always re-apply Wool Wax on top of FF later.

Yay on undercoating. No Cons...Many Pros.

My dirty girl is going on her 5th salt-belt winter and still like new...if you can look past the grime & slime.

Apply Amsoil MPHD to everything while things are relatively new (before rust has formed)
    - Consider this a foundation.
    - I probably wouldn't spray this on existing rust. My truck was a year old when purchased (1 winter unprotected) and some welds had rust starting, the next season, amsoil was gone on the rust spots.

    Annually:
Protected areas (Body/Door Panels, rockers, engine compartment, hood, tailgate, inside of cross members and control arms):
    - Spraybomb fluid film with the wand for body/door panels.
    - Open your doors and you'll see a rubber flap at the bottom of the front quarters, pull that back and remove the trapped leaves/debris...then light that cavity up.
    - Unscrew the tailgate panel and spray the crap out of the entire tailgate.
    - before spraying, put a coat of silicone gel on the weather stripping...I didn't and they're a little deformed at the drain holes.

Semi-protected areas (quarter panels / wheel wells, inside of frame, underside of bed.)
    - Bulk fluid film (1gal/5gal cans) with an undercoating gun kit with wands (I use Kelsport...the gun, nozzle & straight wand are OK but the 360 wand is kind of lame)
    - drop the spare and get hit the bed, spare tire and tire lift.
    - you can get good access to the inner bedsides & wheel wells by removing the tail lights.

Areas of high exposure (external frame, axles/diffs, suspension)
    - Woolwax or Blaster surface shield.
    - It's my 1st season using surface shield spraybomb on the Tundra.
-- the spraybomb cans are finicky...you want to be light on the trigger and apply a mist rather than have it pile-up & drip.
    -- I used 6 cans and felt like I could've used more.
-- I just bought a bulk 5gal bucket of surface shield; I'll be hitting my daughter's '09 Matrix with it this weekend with my undercoating gun.
    - Woolax held up great however I don't believe that it's as good as FF for creeping into crevices &/or seeping into existing rust.
    - Jury is still out for surface shield...the bulk material has a very low viscosity (better creep?). How it reacts with existing rust is a big unknown.

Damn. Another place 2 hours away lol. After they do the fluid film does the truck have to sit awhile before you can drive it?

No. You can drive it home. Which I think is better since guys are posting that it smells. I don’t smell it in my garage. 2 years ago the guy local to me was not doing it at the time. I found a guy in NJ and drove a little over 2 hours each way to have it done. He ask me again and I told him I have someone local and he understood. But I sent him some business I know someone in NJ and he sent his friends.

A lot of good discussion. I have yet to apply anything to my Tundra since I bought it 6 months ago but will be soon. Prior to the Tundra I drove a Jeep. I tried Fluid Film but didn’t like how thick it was and felt like I was just caking it on sometimes.

I have since used a product called ACF-50 to spray everything down. It’s super thin, safe on electrical connectors and components, and evens out to a nice thin layer after applied. Super messy when working under the vehicle, but I prefer it over rust. I also use it on my boat to keep hardware and the motor free of corrosion. I have had good experiences.

Very happy to read this comment. I had krown undercoating on my last truck and liked it. But I got a 2021 earlier this year and am getting the corrosion free treatment done. Mainly because the shop right next to my work now offers corrosion free. The krown guys are all the way across town.

My mechanic told me that if I was going to keep my truck to start treated the underside. I asked him about used synthetic oil. He said do it. That is what I used. 4/5s used 5w-20, 1/5 diesel through a garden sprayer. It was a little stinky for 2 weeks. The cost was right.

    Not enough....
Yet another vote for Krown. It's not real big in the states compared to Canada, so I got to the southern most location that does the application, in York PA. I've gone 3 years in a row now. It's the best $150 I spend all year. I spot treat my other cars with Fluid film, but for the truck I love that the Krown treatment gets in all of the body panels as well.

All year long streaks of the oil lightly seep out the door handles and tailgate handle lol. I love it because I know it's working and continuing to stay viscous. And yeah working under the truck is now a slightly dirtier process, but I'll take that any day of the week over rust. My last Tundra (2001) had the frame replaced. Never again.....

I did my 2021 Tundra with Wool Wax in the driveway last week. Used 6 aerosol cans with the sprayer attachment. I was disappointed in the coverage, it seemed to come out of the nozzle in clumps because it was so thick. It was probably because I didn't warm it up first, it had been sitting in my garage for about a month with temps at night in the 30s and 40s. I read afterwards that you should let it sit in warm water before applying. Also as others have said, wear old clothes. The stuff does not wash out easily.

How long have you had that solution on the underside of your truck? I'm curious to know how that pans out. I saw some video comparisons on different products and the used motor oil did not do very well but they did not mix with diesel so I'm curious to see how that holds ho for you. In the videos I saw, the used oil dripped off super easily and even more easily in the spots where water hits but I can't remember what viscosity they used. Did he offer any feedback on why mixing it with diesel was helpful?

Nothing special, I'm a noob at it too. Just sprayed around on a non windy day to protect the frame and any other parts I could reach. It's a real tacky spray though so do what you can to avoid letting wind carry it to the paint.

There isn’t much you can hurt with FF. It just burns off the exhaust. Smells great, smells like...... Fall;)

Little trick I use with the FF to help out with the creeping and application in general, this is only for those that have bought the kit to use with an air compressor. Get yourself a Fry Daddy from Walmart and a large spoon scoop/laddle as well, use the scoop to transfer the FF from the gallon container to the Fry Daddy, I usually use a paint stirrer to keep it moving while it's heating up, only takes about a minute and then I can pour it into my container using a funnel. It's almost like water at this point and goes on really nice. It will creep well and then start to congeal again if done in the colder months (October for me in N.H.).

I do agree, FF does seem to wash away easily in areas that get direct contact with water spray. I may try WW next year or the PB Surface Shield, we'll see
