What's the definition of no lugging ? Planning a long trip with a camper next year, and I know for a good stretch 91 is going to be hard to come by, camper will probably be 5k loaded.

I feel that all of @snivilous comments are spot on with my less quality fuel issue that I have noticed. When I would try WOT, it would cut out at the high speed. At first I just thought my foot slipped off the pedal. But after more fill ups of same gas, the pinging knocking started showing up at lower acceleration speeds.
I bought some octane booster in my last fill up and added it to the same gas I was buying and it took about 100 miles before noticing all of the knocking go away.

pardon if we covered this in the past:
have you tried to tune it to this socialist grade of gas?

    once their thing-a-ma-jig comes in,

    I have asked D3 Performance to make me 3 tunes. 87, 91 & 93 octane tunes.

exactly in line with what @snivilous said. to detune the engine in emergency cases when I have to run lower octane.

I'll probably never use the other tunes, but I will have them.

    Ah!

then I know EXACTLY what you are experiencing.

yes, the motor is hamstringing you. for safety.

now imagine...breathe deep...a tune that will harden up the go pedal and correct the timing pulls.....breathe out.

not a day passes that I am not grateful that I have awesome shops near me. D3, Prospeed, Pietz

to have your truck dialed in on a dyno a la carte' is the bee's knees.

if you have to do it remotely choose a seasoned pro.

my truck had a BUNCH of nuances that needed to be dialed in - mainly the larger fuel injectors.

Since it’s what this thread is all about, I’d just like to say I love my Harrop supercharger even as a stage 1. Aside from the ludicrous acceleration of a 5500+ lb truck, highway driving is so much improved over stock. Highways in eastern PA aren’t flat, lots of grades on most of them. On a few recent highway trips I’ve enjoyed how I can just set my cruise at 70-75 and when I hit the hills the truck just holds my set speed like a honeybadger and doesn’t have to come out of top gear. It’s fun watching the boost gauge when I hit the the hills go from a vacuum to 0psi, and it almost never has to get into any more boost than that and it’s happy holding my speed. And the difference when pulling my travel trailer is also night and day. This stage 2 upgrade is gonna be amazing, a whole additional 50 to 70hp! Hard to imagine. Best Mod I’ve ever done on any vehicle I’ve owned.

Forced induction is awesome. My wife’s twin-charged XC90 with a 2 liter engine just chugs along and almost never downshifts on grades even at 80 mph.

What @nobodyintexas said is what I'm referring to, keeping it in a high gear at lower rpm. If you watch your timing advance, as the engine loads up it'll retard the timing (like when you go WOT and it drops to like 15deg of advance). In my experience the engine will retard timing as load goes up and as boost increases. For example I can climb a hill near my house in 6th and timing will drop into the teens and it'll add in a couple psi of boost (just holding speed with cruise control) or I can prematurely downshift to 5th, and then it will never touch boost but be at a higher rpm with less engine load and running like high 20s for advance.

So the engine is capable of pulling the truck at the speed you want in both gears, but a lower gear means the engine isn't working as hard. Same logic as regearing, you spin a higher rpm but that's not a bad thing because the engine is fine at higher rpm and it's happier because it's not working as hard. Personally, if I see the truck has to use more than 2psi (which is exactly what @Silver17 is saying above) then I usually downshift even if the truck hasn't yet just since I get paranoid of the engine running for a long time in boost and downshifting and adding 500rpm will make it not need any boost and now have excess power instantly on tap.

I'm probably talking in circles now and this post is getting long, so hopefully that clears anything up. The take away should be, lower gears and higher rpm means less engine load which means less likelihood of knock. Don't be afraid to rev the engine out.

makes sense, this will be my first s/c vehicle, while most of them were turbos, where most knock happen at high gear low rpm full boost pulls, glad to know that can avoid going into boost even on the roots.

Is this you!? I was listening to some TRD dual exhaust clips on YouTube, I picked up a used system for mine (I’ve had it once before too). If it’s your truck, that sounds amazing with those headers. I take it the headers are responsible for that glorious sound. So are those long tubes with cats built in? I’ve only had the trd duals on a NA truck before so I’m excited to see how the sounds changes being supercharged. The trd system isn’t the loudest but the tone is just perfect. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ8odt8on7M

    Yes sir, that's mine.

In that clip, its just stainless works headers with aftermarket cats connect to stock TRD exhaust, so it remain true dual from headers to tail, it sounds great, but two things the video does not convey is how loud and stinky it is, at idle the smell is unbearable if you have windows open, and at 3500rpm its impossible to hear any conversation inside the cabin, in cold start it'll set off car alarms next to me.

You can see how it was mounted up to stock rear section, note the 3"-2.5" step down on the connectors

I've since then had custom mid pipes made with OEM cats made and custom x pipe, now it sounds like a stock AMG v8 at low idle, at full throttle it roars, also using v-bands through out.

That’s awesome. I’d love to hear how it sounds with your new setup. I will say that your previous setup as shown in the video is the best sounding tundra I’ve ever heard right alongside the Harrop supercharged Kanoo Racing tundra with ARH headers and their custom exhaust. The TRD duals apparently sound a lot louder and better without the cats, its unfortunate it gets unbearably stinky without them.

Keep in mind that I ask a lot in terms of comfort/compliance on this vehicle, I also had an issue with CEL, I couldn't disable it no matter what I tried, tried to make 4 different foulers, etc and none would disable the CELs, it was not until I put stock cats back on it was gone, but this was before 2020+ ecus were cracked, I've heard on pre 19 trucks its easier to fool the o2 sensors.

If you can live with volume, I'd say go for it, it sounded like a dohc nascar at wot.

Yes if I ever went longtubes I’d have to disable the O2 sensor codes through the tune. But like you said, I’m not sure I want to deal with the nauseating smell without the cats. The most id do to try and improve the sound would be remove the rear cats and leave the front ones. I’m hoping the addition of the supercharger increases the aggressiveness of the trd duals enough that I will be satisfied.

Weird you mention that because, when I was at the install shop yesterday they gave me all the stickers that came with mine but they insisted on keeping that sticker. Must be some sort of liability if they don't hang on to it? Guess I don't understand who needs the sticker for what, since I don't live in Cali...Maybe Colorado has similar regulations I didn't know about.
