Spare Tire carrier options

Wondering what you guys are running as far as an In-bed spare tire carrier.
I've seen folks mount 35" down low w/ removal of the guides..
I wanted to have 2 full size spares.

Really considering Wilco's hitch option at the moment. But I gotta keep the budget down.
So for the mean time any ones ideas can help!

Picking up my 35" spare this weekend. and mounting it Sunday.. gonna try to work it down low under the bed. I'll be shaving the guides for sure, but not completely off.
I also made sure when I installed the CB shackles that the bolt head was on the inside and not towards the outside like most ppl run.

 

That looks like a cool option. I looked for a tailgate swing out tire carrier and couldn't find one that didn't require a specific bumper, not the OEM bumper. This would eliminate the need for a new bumper.

It's a nice setup! Tryna convince the wifey, "we can use it for the tacoma and the tundra!" Lol she isn't having it right now hah.. Maybe try again next week.

Only thing is the no fold down/swing out option ; big issue for the tailgate..

 

@csuviper Hah! wow that does look sketchy.. I think the wilco one would be more balanced. But havent seen any videos/reviews about wheeling with the wilco setup.

 

Yeah! it does look well built.
Pricey, but you know how that saying goes.. "you get what you pay for."
It's a much better option for me, so I can swap between the taco and the tundra on different occasions w/o buying 2 swing out bumpers for each truck.. Right?!!? we'll see if this one works with her .

 

Welp. Ended up not going with a hitch mount after asking a few folks who had them. They just didn't seem stout and would block the rear camera for sure.
The second spare I will tie down in my bed for now. Just as long as I have full size with me at all times I am happy.

Got it mounted underneath.
Specs of rim:18x9 +12
Tire: General grabber M/T 35x12.50r18 weight is 106lbs ish.

Had to cut the brackets, bash them in a bit with a bfh, smoothen it out with stone bits, and paint black for rust prevention.

Really close to shackles, but lucky I flipped the bolts the other way when installing he shackles knowing I was going to try to mount underneath in the future.

Got lucky it was far from the Trd dual exhaust as well. It does touch the hangers a bit. Just as long as you have someone crank it up while you maneuver it into place and line it up you will be good.

If I had a ko2 underneath I would definitely clear a lot more since diameter is a bit smaller @ 34.50

But it works for now. I'm happy with it. And got a few wheeling trips coming up so we will see how it holds up. Assuming worse case scenario would be those bolts will scrape the nubs.. But I will update this as much as possible.

Wow! That looks tight. The Toytec shackles are thinner and would allow a bit more clearance I think

 

N-Fab recently came out with a bed cage for two spares. What do you guys think?

I don't think i've seen an update to this thread with your follow up information on how the tight squeeze after some off road trips. Maybe i missed your update....

 

I like it but i think it would take up too much space for my liking. I think i'd like it if the rack spanned the entire width of the bed and had the spares all the way against each side of the bed for carrying 2. maybe even have a locking cabinet of some sort that is fabbed in to the rack. Sounds expensive but i think i might try to find something with stackable center space or a cabinet/box for between the spares

 

I'm preparing for a trip this weekend. I am checking the spare tomorrow. We'll see if it had any contact/damage the shackle etc.

 

NFAB Bed rail mount.

 

So I pulled the spare tire out and examined it for any damages..
No damages what so ever.(other than the rub from the bottom side of frame where it rests-cranked up)
No gashes or anything from the shackles being close.
Air psi dropped about 3psi (filled 45 last check-42 on this check.)
Wheel weights look all intact
No gashes either from any ass dragging- if I ever had any incident.



still want to get a swing out with a higher clearance bumper and hitch..

 

I should've put a thick coat of tire shine before i mounted back up......
