I mean, I hear you, but once a vehicle has a salvage title, in some states and/or with some insurance companies, you can't get S-title vehicles insured, or if you can, it comes at an extra cost.

So I suppose there are pros and cons. If I ever had something like this come up with my truck, I'd hafta make a really tough choice: Do I involve my insurance company? If it were someone else hitting me, I'm sure I could lawyer up and get what I know my truck is worth and still have enough to cover the legal fees, but truck would still probably get totaled.

Insurance totalled my brothers Avalon when it was t boned… we bought it back and 2500 later we had an extra 2200 on cash and the car looks and drives fine.

best part is since it was bought back and it’s old enough, the title stays clean in indiana

    Win-Win.

Unless you mean they won't even give you liability insurance.

You have to watch out for those fire hydrants...they often hide themselves in the wild waiting to pounce on unsuspecting prey.

It's exceptionally difficult for me to get full coverage on any S-title vehicle with USAA in my state. I made the mistake of trying once, and sold the car after. Mind you, at a profit so I wasn't overly bummed about it, but ... lesson learned.

Like a little red rocket in the bush just waiting to jump out and ram all up inya.

Why would you get full coverage on an S title vehicle anyway? If you have that much money to burn...just buy a clean vehicle, or a new one with payments.

With S-titles as cheap as they are, as long as you don't destroy it in the first year or two, you come out ahead not having full insurance. It doesn't take long before you've spent more insuring the vehicle, than you did to buy it in the first place so all you are doing is hurting yourself.

I don't insure anything except liability required by law. Not even my house. If you just roll the money you save from not having insurance back into hardening your house you come out way ahead. For the cost of a few years fire insurance, you can buy an entire fire truck, sprinkler system, water tanks, generator, etc, or just save up enough to rebuild.

Never forget, insurance is nothing more than a casino, and overall, the house always wins, even if from time to time someone gets ahead. Insurance companies can only exist, because most people pay WAY more in insurance than they ever get back.

Insurance only makes sense if you have no self control and can't save money, and even then, your better just sitting up a savings account.

Totally get what you're saying, @Aerindel but I've been burned a couple of times. Happy to see you haven't. How and why I've gotten burned is OT and out of scope on this thread. I'll just say: Count your blessings. :)
