Ive been doing lots of talking with a close friend and realizing my greatest strength is my biggest weakness. I'm never satisfied with anything. If you'd have told me 5 years ago that I'd be where I am today, I would have asked, "where do I sign?".

Now I am here and constantly thinking about how I can get to the next level. Its been the primary reason I've been successful in what I do, but it doesn't allow for much enjoyment of life. My buddy told me I need to learn to be happy with what I have (in comparison to the past) and he's right.

So what are you thankful for? We need to think about this more than once a year when we bake a turkey.

Im thankful for a BEAUTIFUL baby girl, a BEAUTIFUL wife, a BEAUTIFUL truck and a BEAUTIFUL brand new house. Most importantly I'm thankful for all of my immediate family being healthy. I feel like thats less and less common.

Nothing wrong with wanting more. just a big difference between wanting more to get better personally or to improve the life of your family vs just to accumulate material wealth. As long as the desire for more doesn't get in the way of that, nothing wrong with your drive.

Now, what am I thankful for? I'm thankful that every night effort I go to bed, I see my kids sleeping in their beds, warm, healthy and with food in there stomachs. And that I have the health and means to provide that. Everything else is extra and I'm grateful for that, but like you I'm not complacent. I always want more but it doesn't control my life.

    Stay thirsty my friend

I'm thankful for my little girl, beautiful wife and our brand new house we just built. And can't forget the dogs, Poop and Kiwi.

I too strive for more and more. Trying to figure out how to swing an inground pool at the moment. :anonymous:

HA! You should look at the backyard thread.

But, not to derail this. Two great kids, four grand kids, a good career that I hope I can close out in a few years. Living, in my opinion, in one of the best places in the country for a combination of climate, nature and history. The last time I had a foreign travel review the interviewer asked something like, do you have any sympathies for the foreign countries that you've been to? Without thinking I replied that while I've met some good people and seen some phenomenal things, every time I go somewhere I realize how good it is here.

In that vein, I'm also fortunate to have ridden a camel on a private tour of the Giza pyramids.

I'm thankful for everything God has entrusted me with in this life so far. He has brought me through a lot in my young years and I enjoy all that he has given me. I never ask for more, just the needs for my family. I used to always want more because I thought I deserved it by works but He quickly brought that way of life to a halt. I watched my mom struggle for years as a single mother to me and I remember her always saying "No matter what happens know that God loves you and I love you and will always be there for you, Forever." I am thankful and enjoy everything in my life because through Him I have them.

I'm thankful to have such a loving and beautiful wife, a good job, a wonderful immediate and extended family that knows nothing but love and forgiveness, being able to take a breath in the morning, food on the table every single day, and the ability to get up and walk around without any issue and most of all, I'm thankful for a God that loves me and everybody!

I worked 90-100 hour weeks for 10 straight years. I had one week off a year, the week between Christmas and New Year. Basically did the work myself instead of hiring 2 more employees. That allowed me to save enough to buy a house. I don't regret it because my family now have a house if anything were to happen to me but I was pretty miserable for a very long time. Once I had my daughter, I hired those extra employees and have only worked from 9-5 ever since and never on weekends. I make a lot less money now but I'm much happier and very thankful for what I have. Only thing that really matters to me now is my wife, my girls, my truck and maybe toilet paper. You may have to make that sacrifice some time in your life but you also have to realize life is very short.

My grandmother always had tons of extra toilet paper (I mean like hundreds of rolls) and I was joking with her one day about it.

She said, "alright Chris, go three days without using TP and I will give you 100.00." Challenge excepted.

Yeah, I never got the 100.00.

Yeah, I gotta admit that this woman who has put up with me for 40+ years is a pretty good deal and the 2 successful sons, 1 a combat veteran working for the BLM and the other a superintendent with my 4 gkids make me happy!

With the ridiculous notes about toilet paper on this thread not being part of the next statement....
I really like threads that start by asking what you're thankful for

My list is extremely long but i'm going to bulletize or else i'll wear my keyboard out
    • my parents and their ability to raise a good man. why couldn't they have made it happen before i turned 40?
    • my step kids that have added so much to my life that i never was expecting when i was hitting on the hot waitress at the bar
    • the way GOD places things in your life WAY BEFORE things go down so that you can handle the shit storm when it happens
    • my job that was issued to me, unexpectedly, that gives me so much freedom that i can handle the immense obstacles that are to come 5 years later
    • my friends that have left me, dropped me, and kicked me to the curb when i was a real ass hat for too long
    • my friends that have come back to me, support me, hold me up, encourage me, enlighten me, teach me, and remain my friends when i quit being an ass hat and came back to this planet after all of those years of not deserving anyone to be nice to me
    • my parents for telling me to F-off and leaving me on the side of the road with no money, shoes, ride home, nor any idea what to do...when i was being an ass hat
    • my boss for supporting my personal life when he knows it's a shit storm
    • my peers that support me when i'm on PTO to take care of my kids' needs
    • my employees for understanding who i am, what i am, the care i have for them, and the dedication to do better because i've learned to be a great manager after all these years
    • and most of all to GOD for keeping me alive through all of the ass hatting and providing me with a life that i can be proud of, and a desire to improve it with every step i take!
Oh yeah, and a metric ass load of toilet paper....i'm so regular that i'm irregular!!! I'm glad Spanky has the same love for TP. I knew we had something special between us, just did knot it was the same desire to talk "shit" on these forums;):poking:

Also, be thankful that people care enough to listen and respond to something sentimental in a world that's become very callus to feelings. I'm thankful you started this thread and that i read it right before i went to sleep. It's been a hard 6 months and sometimes i need a reminder to be thankful
Thank you bro! Even if you had no intention of improving my world.....you just added a little something to it;)

I'm thankful my prostate cancer is not going to kill me. Even though I have two years of female hormone shots every 6 months, (no I'm not going to grow a Vag**a or b**bs), a few more chemo shots, and upcoming radiation therapy in a month or so, ...I'm going to be able to spin quite a few more tales with my grandkids. Take them fishing, teach them how to shoot, Chucky Cheese, camping , hiking....got the picture?? I'm so thankful. I'm loving life. You get a new perspective when you get a potential life threatening diagnosis. It tends to make you re-focus on what is most important......................

    I'm gonna double dip....

I'm also Thankful that I bought a Tundra. Yes, because it's a reliable vehicle, but more so because I feel friendships evolving. The Tom Cruise hug in a previous post is from one of those guys. And yes, I've been creepily following him for days and I'm not afraid to admit it :D
