I am wanting to install a remote start. Would anything aftermarket have any influence on my warranty? Any help is appreciated

I would think only if it directly causes some other electrical problem. But it's up to your dealership, you may want to give them a call.

Fortin Evo = Uses Factory keyfob
Viper = New keyfob and alarm system

I'm looking into getting Viper Remote Start + Alarm its a little pricey they quoted me $700 for the unit and install.

I've installed aftermarket in the past and did the Factory remote start this time around. I definitely like the "plug-n-play" Factory version without any warranty issues. It is a little more $ but it works with the same remote you have now... no extra remote and you never need to figure out how to get a new aftermarket remote, and program it, when your unit is no longer current. So, go factory for just remote start, but if you want better security and not just a remote start then combine the two into one aftermarket security-remote start system... But be sure to see the installers past work PRIOR to yours. Letting someone get their hands in your truck without seeing their work is a no-no. The integrity of the aftermarket install will be your only defense in a warranty claim. Hope this helps.

    A. How does the factory remote start work? (what do you press on the key FOB)
    B. Is the Fortin evo an DIY install or pay an installer install?

This is correct. I previously worked for toyota and that's their policy if u want to call it that. As long as it's hooked up correctly and does not directly result in damage due to poor installation you will be fine. So have at it and get whatever you want, just make sure it's installed correctly and does not cause other parts to malfunction due to an improper install. Btw, I have toyota remote start, not sure if the aftermarket do same, but I don't like how you start it then to get in it shuts off. I also had customers complain about the range, however I find mine to be adequate. Hope this helps, good luck.

Can't go wrong having the dealer install. If it makes you feel better for peace of mind. You don't have to go that route though. Long as any reputable shop does it properly you will be fine. Now if a friend does it in your driveway while drinking a case of beer and messes things up directly causing other issues from the faulty installation you will be on your own for a warranty claim. A friend can do it over a case of beers in your driveway too, nothing wrong with that, as long as he does it properly and the cause for any warranty claim is not directly caused by a faulty installation. Bottom line, do it however you like, just make sure whomever does the install knows what they are doing and does it properly. You are not the 1st to ask that question, that is the response I was given as an employee years ago calling the warranty claims division for a customer. It does not good any warranties as long as it's not directly related due to the install done incorrectly. But, again, if it makes you feel better, paying a little extra to have a toyota service center do the install is probably a small price to pay for peace of mind. Makes it damn near impossible for them to get around that one when they did it.

Factory remote start shutting off after door opens and having to restart is some major dumbassery.

    I get why...

Right? It's like why the F did I start it remotely only to have to restart it manually before I take off to leave.

Is it only the Toyota OEM remote start that shuts off when opening the door? Does anyone know if the Fortin Evo does that as well? I would never buy one that shuts off like that...

I know some do and some don't. I agree it's pretty annoying and I wouldn't have paid for my own. Just happened to have it when I got it. It is nice considering the trd pro has leather but no heated seats, which don't make sense to me either. It's def nice to have but if I was to pay for 1 this would not be it. The auto shut off kills me. I'm undecided about the timed auto off. Guess it could go either way there. For the 1 time it shut off and I didn't want it to sucked. But I'm guessing down the line it will come in handy when I forget I started it and it don't run forever.
