2022 Test drive

Took a 15 min. drive today in a 2022 SR5 Crewmax 4x4 TRD. Very impressed with ride quality, steering, power and transmission. Definitely sold me on the truck. I’ll never miss the V-8 with the power this truck has. I’m in line for an incoming Platinum 4x4 in WInd Chill color. SR5 was very nice and to me pretty close to the interior of my ‘18 Platinum (w/out the leather). Test drive hooked me!

 

Is it true that the front end looks better in person? Love the interior but that front end is god awful in pictures. Rob Motive said it looks much better in person than pictures….

This one was red and although not my color it was beautiful. I stared at the front for a while and it’s a dang good looking truck.

Nope, still ugly as hell. You can put a flock of small birds through the grill opening.

 

That front end is just gross.

 

With all the driving I do on construction sites. I’d be nervous that the grill won’t stop anything from getting to the radiator. Let alone with highway debris coming at the truck at 80 miles an hour

 

I just noticed this in another thread. That whole truck looks like ass.

 

I wonder what a big june bug would do at 80mph to the radiator with a direct hit. Can't be good for it.

 

So don't buy one. The Ford dealership will be happy to sell you a truck.

Brand new vehicles are usually fun to test drive. The cleanliness, the smell, the thought of what can be.

What bugs me about the appearance is the black trim around the fender openings. Just no. No.

 

It really felt faster? Perhaps its a subjective thing and it simply feels that way. I had hoped with the numbers the they were putting down they'd outpace the 2nd gens, yet every video I've watched theyre slower. The Pros have put down the best acceleration times with the iForce Max, yet theyre still high 6s to 7s to 60. Which at best is the same as the 2nd gens. Thats with the engine you cant even get yet, hard to believe the lower end option would be faster despite being rated lower than the Max.

Get one without black trim

 

It’s not the engine that’s holding it back it’s the computer tuning. Toyota has it tuned to be reliable and get good gas mileage. Not to be a dragster. I’m sure you can get it re tuned in the future if 0-60 is what matters the most to you.

 

It doesn't matter to me, I'd consider one to get the extra economy honestly. Im just curious as Ive heard a few people call it faster, despite having driven the lower end motor option. FWIW the 2nd gens can be tuned as well, but it wouldnt be apples to apples once the mods start. I dont doubt in the long run, that it'd be easier to tune a 3rd gen to be faster with fewer mods, but once you figure in the addition increase in cost on the newer models, I wouldnt argue it'd be cheaper.

Hell, in my case I'd probably have to hand over about 6-7k on top of a trade just to get a comparable 3rd gen. That'd take a while to break even with the better MPGs. At least I think they look nice, I also like that the sport model is lowered.

 

I was hoping that a new Pro with the iForce Max would come close to a supercharged Tundra in acceleration. That's disappointing.

 

I agree, that battery must be heavy. Those numbers alone would mean substantial gains, unless the truck got a bit heavier.

Everyone can kiss my rear and call me Susan, but there is no replacement for displacement! I joke but not really....

We have several 6.2 POS GMC's that see 50k miles a year at work that will out tow and get better mileage is every day life than these small displacement turboed engines. It is just a fad that we are going through. Just a late night bourbon post but at least I feel better getting that off my chest...

 

Just to stir the pot, soon to be a lot of people not getting the rated MPG, yet wondering why. No replacement for displacement.

I can’t agree more. Why the heck are all new crossovers and suv insisting on these black plastics around the wheel well. They fade and are pita to maintain.

 

I have over 800k of miles on 6 Ford ecoboosts at work and we chart every single mile on them. They have averaged 16.6 MPG. Not terrible, not great......

My buddy went out and bought a brand new Ford Powerboost and he is yet to break over 18 MPG and it is nothing more than a 50 mile per day commuter per day mostly highway.

When you put a truck on a chassis dyno and set the cruise at 47 MPH in straight 93 octane, it is not hard to claim 22+ MPg....

Real world every day driving, different story.....

I feel better now, and my rants are over. Back to hot chocolate with Bourbon Cream and Home Alone with the family!
