So I bought a 2015 TRD Pro (4R) and am quickly finding out the prior owners were cheap, maybe broke, couldn't afford it...and it pisses me off. Allow me to elaborate.

    - 80k (ish) miles, OEM tires (Nitto M/T Grapplers worn to nothing) which I immediately swapped out for new Toyo R/T's which are amazing btw.
    - The cheapest shit: windshield wipers, battery, various consumables
    - Speakers blown out which I replaced myself with all new components from Crutchfield, maybe they were blasting whatever too loud
    - Brakes: Fronts new pads but original rotors, rears never been touched and down to nothing. Getting them all replaced in a week or two.
    - Tint: Dogshit. Had all the tint replaced, my guy was like bro this is the cheapest shit ever.

Assumptions. The vehicle was in Florida and Alabama. Whoever owned it maxed themselves out, could barely afford to the pay for the thing and hence neglected the basics. Do whatever you want man and fortunately it is in great mechanical condition but most of the shit has been half assed or cheaply done.

If your first question is: what payment can I afford...you can't fucking afford it.

    Weak. Sauce.

Can't stand that. Do it right or don't do it.

First of all, you bought the truck in that condition, so everything you are bitching about is on you.
Did you not look it over before you bought it?

    Tires?
Sure, replace them, at 80K on my 2014 I'm on my 3rd set.
    Wipers and such?
Put whatever the fu(k you want on it.
    Speakers?
Stock stuff is shit, doesn't matter if it's day one or 6 years later.
    Brakes?
I didn't change my OEM brakes in my 2014 until 80K, they didn't need it.
AT 85K it runs fine with new OEM pads and rotors turned.
    Tint?
I'll admit, whoever did my front window tint is lacking.
It was probably a dealer thing.
Rear window and back doors (I think factory) are fine.
Front doors show barely noticeable distortion.
Going to have them redone next summer.

    Get over it.
It's time to make the truck your own and not cry about it's past.
You bought a used truck, man up............................

    Please elaborate on “various consumables”.

Do you mean to tell me that they diluted the F#%k1ng washer fluid, bro?

You say “great mechanical condition” but after reading this post isn’t probable they did nothing to maintain it mechanically? As in not changing oil regularly, no dif, transfer case fluid changes and probably drove it like they stole it? Glad it’s not my Runner..

    ^ Good point.

How often was the oil changed @Snowboard Tundra ?
If you don't know, that may be an issue with all that original owner bitching...:eek2:

That is more important than anything else you cried about.:(

Sometimes these little things are indicators if more serious mechanical maintenance issues.

The stealerships around here do that. If I ever have to take one of my vehicles in for warranty work in the summer, I try to remember to fill up the washer fluid reservoir with the -45 stuff so I don't have to watch them pouring water in it while I'm doing the paperwork.

Many vehicles are an afterthought, an appliance, just something to get from A-to-B for a lot of people.
    To each their own.
I had a neighbor with an $80k truck, $50k boat, and he had a tarp on the aging roof of his house for over 3 years. Really nice guy and a really nice family, his house and yard were just pretty far down on his priority list. What's important to you is not necessarily important to others.

You bought the vehicle in that condition. You did the DD prior to taking ownership. It's on you bud.

When you buy a used vehicle you have to look it over carefully or have your mechanic look it over for you. Even then you are taking a risk on things that you can't detect until you have driven it a while. I have found that buying a used vehicle is not a whole lot less expensive overall than buying new because with new you get a warranty and none of the parts are already worn.

I bought a 10 year old Civic about 15 years ago. Had a good mechanic who I trust look it over and he found no issues. Speedo stopped working as I was driving the car home for the first time and yet I managed not to get into a rage towards the previous owner somehow.

Lucky for you OP, you found this forum. As you can tell, there’s limited capacity here for entertaining a whiny attitude, but there’s a wealth of knowledge for how to take care of our trucks to keep them running for a long long time. Play nice in the sandbox and we’ll all help you make the most from other people’s shortcomings.

My truck was bought used too, one owner, etc. All maintenance was done by the dealer that sold it and it came with extensive records of it. That doesn’t mean it was perfect. They forgot to torque down the lugs of one wheel after rotating tires one time, and the damn thing came off while the PO was driving it home. Also, the bed floor was rusted through in multiple places under the plastic liner before I bought it. Neither the dealer nor the PO thought to address that, despite taking pretty good care of it otherwise. And I’m pretty sure I have an unresolved cam tower leak that predates my purchase, too.

If you don’t want to deal with any little surprises after buying, buy new. :notsure:

Why Florida or Alabama? Because you live in or in between those two states, or because you think everyone that lives there is some sort of jalopy driving beatnick? If you can afford a bigger payment than I can, why’d you buy a used Tundra?

Resposibility is on the buyer to inspect and research the vehicle, used or new. Carfax can tell you some of the story. Maintenance records are useful, but not everyone that doesn’t use the dealer after the “free” oil changes is cheap - plenty do it to be able to put better components in or to have a better sense of it being done right, or have been seriously screwed by the dealer in the past…

Good luck. But quit bitching. You got a truck. Make it yours.

I would imagine some of this stuff was known prior to purchase, so you should have made a good deal on it considering the condition.

You either buy a cheaper truck with issues and put money in it, or buy a perfect one and pay a premium up front.

Hope it's a good truck for you once the issues are straightened out.

People do dumb stuff. Also remember the fundamental attribution error. We have no idea what was actually going on and are quick to make assumptions about character traits rather than situational anomalies.
Possible: person bought trd pro dream vehicle, developed diabetes (blood sugar affecting decisions) or early onset dementia.

most likely: someone overbought because a dealer offered 0 down and no payments for 90 days or some such nonsense.

    Goodluck and enjoy your enhancements.

I assume you didn’t do a walk through before purchasing.
I assume you think that somehow the location of the vehicle has anything to do with the owners financial situation.
I assume in your haste to make a witty post, degrading someone, you thought how much self-importance you have over everyone else.
I assume that the condition of which you bitch about, is mainly based on your insecurities.
I assume that you would be a headache to live with.
I assume, from your post, that your condescension, egotism and superiority complex shines much more than the lack of care for a vehicle.

Assumptions - If we are honest with ourselves, we have to admit that sometimes our assumptions and preconceived notions are wrong, and therefore, our interpretations of events are incorrect.

Assumptions damage our capacity to relate to others.

Imagine the assumptions made about you after your post.

I hope your truck is treated better than those you think are less worthy than you.

Nothing you listed has to do with affording stuff, maybe dude didn't know any better or didn't care.

I drive an older Tundra and wear cheap sunglasses and my clothes have holes and burn marks in them. I don't think I'm poor, just upgrading that stuff is so low on my priority list I don't give a shit. Rather spend my money on other things. My friends say I look homeless as they walk around with their $300 sunglasses, ironically no one ever asks them to use their tools or shop though :D for all you know previous owner was rich as fuck

I think he got the message, i think he gets is. However I think most people on this forum think the way he does. Somebody didn't love the truck the way he thinks it should of. He's allowed to be disappointed in that.

The way you @Snowboard Tundra describe the truck it sounds like a real piecer. Who would want to own such a hot bag of trash? Did you do an inspection? Did you pay for a PPI? Did you buy the Carfax and Autocheck reports and check for maintenance items? What about checking the VIN on the Toyota owners site? Did you test drive the truck? Why did you buy a truck in such bad condition? Why did you buy a 6 year old truck? Why didn't you buy a brand new 4Runner TRD Pro? Oh wait, you're the one who is cheap mofo and my only assumption is that you got a great deal on it since it's in such bad condition. You bought the thing, it's on you now. Any time you buy a used vehicle expect to spend a few thousand on baselining it.

    Since we're making assumptions here;
I'm going to assume the po just didn't care about maintenance. I'm going to assume they weren't broke at all, in fact they were wealthy enough to trade in their Pro when it needed tires and brakes.

Oh, congrats on the Pro!
