On my tacoma, I was able to mess with the relay and make the 12v outlet always hot/on so I could charge things when the key was not in the ignition. Has anyone seen or done something to this effect with the Tundra? I'm not worried about draining my battery as its mostly for charging cell phones/small devices while I'm at the gym or away from my truck.

Thanks in advance for any responses

I just rewired mine so I had them hot all the time. Upgraded to 10ga wire too - instead of that tiny factory stuff they used.

I rewired one of mine while I was pulling cable for off-road lights. I just pulled a new (+) wire and spliced it to the receptacle. Don't forget to insulate the old (+) because it will be hot whenever the ignition is on.

If you can find the relay for the outlets, I can get you a write up for this

A little of this and a little of that.
I'd like to do this as well. So no one has a DIY write-up about it, hmmmm.......:annoyed:

This is the write up I did for 4runners.

The steps are exactly the same for a tundra, just need to locate the relay for the power outlets.

Nope. Doing this mod provides power to your outlets FULL TIME. Truck off or on.

If you did this mod to your fog light circuit, it will leave your fog lights on FULL TIME. Truck off or on, fog light switch off or on.

it will leave your fog lights permanently on. Even if your fog light switch is set to off.

thank you guys for all the responses. I will try to find the relay as that seems to be the easiest option. If I fail there then I'll just find a always hot wire and splice into that. Will keep you guys posted if I can find the relay...

Careful if you splice into another hot wire you could overload that circuit and blow fuses or worse. Worst case run a new circuit with the proper gauge and fuse for what you plan to use it for.

I have a radar connected to my review mirror wires. If I did the mod to my charging sockets would it also put power up to my radar. ???
I just want my charging sockets to work with out ignition on

If you did this mod it will power up anything you connect into that socket.

10ga is way overkill. Need to match wire to breaker. On 15A breaker 16 is fine with DC.

I never said it has a 15a breaker. I ran a whole new circuit and disconnected the factory wire. Now I can run my portable inverter that the factory setup wouldn't support.
