Quick question about exhaust

Hey everyone. So after I put on my deavers the exhaust had to be cut off after the final hangar cause the leafs were hitting them. I have a trd pro with stock pro exhaust. I know plenty of people leave it like that but I don’t like it. I know nobody makes a piece that works with the new leafs in the original spot so that it looks like before. So my question is can I have a shop just weld a piece on like a coupler so that I can use the old pipe and tip or can/should I just have them make a new set of pipes coming off the mufflers and have them weld on the old tip? Also, if I do this will this affect any torque or anything since the pipes will be longer than stock? I like how the pipes came out on each side behind the tires from the factory. Looks weird with no pipes showing. Thanks.

 

Post pics so that we can see where the springs are sitting. Why did you switch to Deavers?

 

I had alcans but they went flat. I switched to deavers and now I have the lift I wanted in the rear, but apparently they were resting on the exhaust. I had to use timbrens to support the weight of the bed, bed rack and RTT with the alcans. After I swapped them out I now have an inch or two of clearance now from the timbrens. I’m swapping them out for super bumps now since I no longer need them to support the weight.

 

How much weight was the RTT and bed rack though? I don't have any weight in the rear other than a 140 lb bumper. Here is what my springs look like. https://www.tundras.com/threads/2020-models-leaf-spring-issues.98791/

 

RTT is 161lbs I believe the rack is 89 lbs, but when I go camping I have my 4 max trax, several gallons of water, 10 gallons of gas in metal Jerry cans, awning, yeti cooler or coolers(depending on how long I’m camping), bathroom/shower tent, tools, spare 37” tire and pro eagle Jack. Not including other random shit that’s not as heavy, but adds up in weight. List is pretty long. So my original leads went out almost immediately. Then I thought I had the answer with the alcans, but that didn’t last long either. We’ll see how the deavers hold up. They’re beefy. Definitely need weight in the bed.

 

Wow. So it sounds like Alcans or leaf springs in general are a hit and miss depending on weight and truck usage....

 

That was my next move, just wondering if anyone has actually done anything other than just chop it and leave it.

 

Hey Jimes. As mentioned, take it to the shop 'cause they'll be best able to help you get what you want. I had the same problem. I tossed the TRD and switched to a DD dumped system. Since you wanna see the pipes, how 'bout exitiing through the bedside between the cab and rear wheel? That's pretty unique and bad ass looking IMO.

 

I’ll ask to see how much to do that as well. The tips would fit between the sliders and rear wheel. I think it would look nice too. Either way I want pipes coming out the side. I think it looks nice and I like how it sounds better too. If I did it that way at least they won’t be in the way when wheeling. I’ve scraped the exhaust a few times before going over obstacles. Sounds great as it’s happening.

 

I just got an email back from Alcan team and quoted me for 750lb leaf spring - now I'm hesitant on proceeding with the purchase based on your experience - do you know why your set went flat? how long did you have them before you had to swap them? I have about 650lb static weight not sure if there will be an issue considering the overall rate of the spring. How was the ride when you had them? how is the ride compared to Deavers?. I was also looking at U728, Assuming this is what you have now?.

IMO our leafs go flat 'cause they're only 2.25" wide and suffer a lot of twisting due to their non-parallel orientation. Wider leafs, thicker leafs, more leafs are what I imagine to be solutions. But, these are just my guesses.
