I decided to start a build thread just because it’s easier to keep track of what I upload.

2006 Access Cab stepside phantom grey.

paid $3000 for it off my cousin early this year. His brother was the original owner so I’m the 3rd.

it had some fender damaged on the driver side that was fixed. Not the best job but eh can’t complain for the price. Truck sat for almost 2 years.

This is the day I picked it up. It was an impulse buy that I don’t regret.
Had 2 different keys. I guess someone tried stealing it once and messed up the ignition cylinder so he replaced it. He also added Scytek 2 way alarm.
I was quick to smog it and register it. Almost 2 years with unpaid tags .

I had the ignition lock re keyed to match original key. Ordered new oem toyota keys that I had cut. Had 156k miles I believe. Installed new oem spark plugs and replaced all the coils since most were cracked. All oem too. Found a great deal on eBay. Replaced thermostat and pcv.

Another good score on eBay I for a k&n intake for $100 cheaper than anywhere else so I pulled the trigger.

I also added a mbrp exhaust since it was cheap and didn’t sound bad

The suspension was pretty shot bushing in struts were gone. I knew that was on my do to list.

I took it to the stealership to have the timing belt service done along with water pump and whatever else comes with it. Had the radiator flushed and brake fluid flushed. $$$
Ball joints were shot but turns out there was a pending recall for them so they installed new ones and a passenger air bag. Made me feel a little better about what it cost. Had a rental for about a week while they got the parts to do it.

finally got around to ordering the suspension. Wheels and tires.

Did the SPC uppers, rebuilt the oem lowers with Siberian bushings. Napa premium cv axles. Already had the new ball joints from Toyota during bumps, OME struts with 2887 coils since I was planning on a steel bumper.

Add a leaf in the back with new bump stops and new u bolts.

    This is after the lift.

i took it out to pismo dunes to see how the 4x4 system performed and to test and push the truck. Transmission got a little hotter than I anticipated oh and I had installed a obd2 gauge to keep track.
    0CE73A3D-8946-400B-82D8-569149B6DA4A.jpg

I decide to install an aftermarket transmission cooler and run it along side the stock one. Just had some scrap metal laying around made some brackets. I know it’s not the cleanest job but it works for me.
The tranny temp reached 240 the first time. The second time I had to cooler and I couldn’t get it passed 185. I call that a win. Didn’t even have to run the fan.

I later got the windows tinted to keep the haters from seeing me rolling through.

I ended up doing the gx460 brake upgrade since she needed brakes pretty bad. Went with some EBC yellow stuff pads and rotors. Custom brake lines from crown performance

def stops better in my opinion.
I added some 12v stuff to organize my wiring and a 8gang switch panel.

That's a cool sticker. Wish they had it when I bought my MXT400.

Did you shorten up the line from the radio to the antenna? I’ve read countless times to not coil it up so was thinking about shortening and re crimping.

Nope, I only had like a foot and a half extra of cable, so I just put it in a big loop. I've also heard the anti-coiling argument too, also have heard arguments not to crimp coax for radio use. I still have a lot to learn on radios, so I won't try and sway you one way or another.

Haven’t had much time to put in my speakers or my GMRS radio but I’ll get to it. Decided to hit Yosemite on New Year’s Day. Good trip truck did great. Trans stayed nice and cool. Didn’t even have to put on the chains but needed them to get into the park. My girl surprised me with a late x mas gift that I believe I will be removing the 60 portion of the back seat and installing with a slide out. That’s the plan atleast.

Had 3 days off so decided to work on the truck.

replaced all the factory speakers with some alpines. Getting just high from the rear driver so I’ll have to address that some other time.

Installed my Redarc brake controller along with 20 amp self resetting circuit breaker on the power side and 30 amp on the cable going to the 7 pin connector at the back. #4 pin which charges trailer battery. Dash mounted button.

Finally also installed my Midland gmrs radio. Used a rago antenna mount next to my pods. Removed the pointless soft cup holder pull out and installed the main unit there. Mic holder/clip on the dash until i figure something else out and just powering it with the cigarette power plug for now until I have some more time to wire it into my power distribution block.
