Good tires for highway and towing?

Hi,

My 2019 Tundra (SR5 TRD 4X4) stock tires are shot out. Michelin 275/65 18 need to go at only 35K miles.

I suppose I drive 90% paved highways but that 10% can be tricky. I also tow a 7000lb Airstream quite a bit, 300 miles a month.

I bought the Tundra new and wonder if warrantied....

Anyways what would be a good replacement given my circumstances? I'd rather err more on the side of off road as opposed to street tires.

Was looking at some Nittos which I've had luck with on Tacomas but the Big O ad said not speed rated for my Tundra....I think Ridge Grapplers.....

I searched the archive and surprisingly few results and most guys wanting to go to extremes.

Yokohama GO15 here, awesome tire for what you have going on too.

 

I ran the ridge grapplers and got about 45k out of them on my tundra. Its a solid tire. You may want to start looking for them now because certain sizes/brands are hard to get right now.

I just replaced them with cooper discover st maxx and I am happy with them so far. The only complaint i have is they can throw some decent size rocks. I tried ordering toyo’s and falkens before settling on the coopers. Both of those tires were on national backorder and i needed a set before leaving for a hunting trip. I run highway a lot and the coopers are pretty quiet for the tread and the ridge grapplers were even quieter. Good luck

 

I put Ridge Grapplers on mine, great tire so far. Excellent off-road traction and pretty quiet on the road for what it is. I only have around 1500 miles on them, so can't speak about how long they will last yet.

 

You’re going to get a million responses, all of them different. If you do 90% on road and tow 300 miles per month, maybe some LT rated Michelin Defenders would be good for you. People who run Defenders absolutely swear by them.

Regarding AT tires,
• I’ve had fantastic experience with Nitto Terra Grappler G2s (LT, not P rated) on my old 4Runner. That tire barely looked used after 50k miles with lots of off roading.
• I really like Duratracs on my Tundra in LT285/75R18, but I’m off pavement quite a bit, plus they are snow-rated with the 3 mountain peak symbol. I’m at 15k and while I can hear them if the radio is off, they aren’t noisy at all. We’ll see how long they last. I rotate every 3k.
• I absolutely loathe KO2s…seems like they shine mostly in desert conditions, which is the opposite of Tennessee.
• There is a lot of feedback on Ridge Grapplers on T4R.org, where I used to hang. Many members over there said they look great and seemed fine for around 20k miles but quickly became awful in wet and snow conditions…kinda like KO2s.

Anyone have the stock Michelins or other fail before the "warrantied" life? I think these are supposed to be 50K tires....

I have a feeling Toyota will find a way to blame me and not honor the warranty.

I've paid close attention but it's been 8-10K miles since a Toyota maintenance rotation and check...

Anyone dealt with Toyota on tire warranties?

 

Factory tires and retail tires are not equal or the same even though they carry the same name and type. The tread is less and they ride differently to sell you on the vehicle. Sort of a scam. Google the topic and you will learn something. Just more BS!! Goes well with the joke of a truck suspension I guess. After purchasing the truck I have spent about 18 grand in mods and that's without labor to actually have a "truck". Still not quite there, still have about 10-15 grand to go. It's kinda crazy, but true!

I never heard of this! Sounds like a false economy to me..... I don't think tires vary all that much and to retool to make cheaper versions and cheapen the brand.... Not that I don't believe you and as we know bean counters run the industry but how stupid for them to even consider such....

So I imagine I should just save my time from going to dealer and just buy a new set on my own....

Hundreds of thousands of sets of five is quite a few tires. Probably a dedicated line, no retooling. A Cadillac ride sells to most. If you don't sell there is no job for bean counters to do.

 

All that, and where is your build thread?

Are there even pics of your build on here? Would love to see your setup.

 

Except....

Tire designs seem to last about 5 years....so you're doubling the line to save a few $$ and trash your name.....

More quality tire brands now than ever coupled with internet reviews and discussions such as this the risk/reward seems out of balance....

In my case I'll NEVER buy another Michelin so it's a loss for them...
