Dobinson vs OME vs Toytec Ultimate vs just ole 5100’s ???

So the more I read into what I am looking for in a Level/Lift for my 16 crew max the deeper the rabbit hole seems to take me……

so with that said my considerations are:
Dobinson GS59-710 with GS59-610 springs….
OME FR07-tun with 612 coils
Toytec… Ultimate……
Or just good ole 5100 set at the highest setting…….

the general is I’m looking for 2-3 level lift…. Truck will see some occasional light overlanding…. Slightly stiffer than stock is ok but still want a decent ride….. honestly will be a pavement pounder for than overlanding…..

and go……….

 

Dobinsons or OME

Toytec Ultimates are just 5100 with an adjustable collar on it.

And 5100's while nice, don't ride as well as the Dobinsons or OME.

 

Eibach Pro Truck is a hell of a value

 

There are dedicated threads for each of those suspensions here, search in upper right. Dobinsons, OME are geared more toward off road use.

Dobinsons- some have had issues with coils being too long and bowing, check the thread
OME- HD suspension, bolt on and forget it. Good quality, firmer, even the light springs are 10% stiffer. Good stuff. Will run .25 to .5 inch higher than advertised. Use light springs unless you have a heavy bumper and winch.

5100s- tons written about them here on the site, again just search. Would not be my choice, much better alternatives.

Check out the eibach pro truck 2.0 suspension, good quality and great deal going on now. $934 for coilovers and rear shocks, free shipping. Really hard to beat that. There are threads as well about this suspension here. Daily driver friendly setup and 2.5 lift.

 

Yeah digging through many threads here is what has the rabbit hole getting deeper the more I read. Your response is a great example, I had not ran into any examples of Dobinsons with the coil issues you mention. So that sends a questionable flag there…..

I’ve personally seen eibach failures and issues in various other makes and have read of failures in tundra groups….. I’ve also had good experience with them in various applications going back many years…. Not saying I would put them completely out of consideration but not tops on my list…..

right now OME I think is topping my list…..

 

I haven't had any issues with my dobinsons 3/2. This is my first lifted truck and I thought it was a little stiff (I don't mind feeling the road). Friends and family that have ridden with me and much more experience in lifted trucks have all said that they are surprised how nice it rides. I also have e loads and rear sway bar.

 

I'd look at Fat Bob's Garage Vated adj. Coilovers. Timbren active bump stops, sway bar drop spacers and diff drop spacer kit.

 

Not sure if Toytec is open tomorrow. Call Hugo at Toytec. Lives and breathes Yota. My vote is for Old Man Emu over Dobinson's. Nothing against Dobinson's. Simply prefer OME. I had a great experience with OME on my 07 Tundra. Rode great! @ColoradoTJ will attest to this. Prolly going with OME on my 22 Frontier as soon as it is available. Had Fat Bob's Vated on my 14 Tundra. I regret that to this day. Reasonably priced but no way near in the same category of OME or Dobinson's. The Vated come locally sourced springs but the Vated option with the 5100 shock knock offs were made somewhere in China and the ride reflected that and....... way over priced too for what you get. A Chinese Toytec knock off actually. @csuviper warned me! Still smh over that mistake, My 2 cents.

 

What springs did you run with the ome? 612?

 

I went with the 614's. Had aftermarket bumper and winch. Thought the 613's would be too stiff. The 613's would be best with the ARB bumper/winch combo. The 612's are for stock setup.

 

Your anticipated driving (off road, highway, desert, woods) might make a difference in what you’re looking for also.

 

Fwiw, there was/is a lightly used OME kit in the marketplace section here.

I've been looking at Eibach, but there seems to be very little feedback here from actual owners. Either that or my google-fu isn't up to par.

 

Don't have experience on the Tundra with Eibach but I had a full Eibach Pro kit with JBA control arms on a 4Runner and it was excellent. Comes with a million mile warranty, it's a quality kit. Don't see why the Tundra version would be any different.

 

There is some info here, a few threads where folks are running either the statge 1 or stage 2 systems.

I have the stage 2, still in the box. I just ordered RAS for the rear of the truck on black friday ($100 off!!) so once it comes in I will have everything I need to do the front and rear suspension on my truck. I have not decided if I will get it all installed soon, or wait until after any snow here in VA. My current OR package suspension is in fine shape so no real rush. But I will definitely be making a thread/review once installed.

One thing I did before making my choice was look at forums for other brands- Ford, Ram, etc....feedback I saw on Tundras and other brand forums was positive and a great value for what you spend.

 

You’re correct. I bought mine about a year and a half ago. Same thing, little feedback. I was leaning hard to Bilstein as a result, and called a couple of forum vendors. Neither hesitated a lick before recommending Eibach.

Had my budget been a little higher I probably would have gone with Dobinsons, but I don’t regret the purchase one bit.

 

I have dobinson ims fronts and rears. Looked at similar options as the OP

IMO between these three options it comes down to what you can get in the time you need them. The dobinson are a lot of shock for the money

 

Love my OME set up, had them before on an LX470 and a Tacoma as well. 612's with the HD springs and add-a-leaf. Basic and reliable. Definitely stiffer than stock, tames the body roll on winding mountain roads at speed much better.

You’ve got the “Stage 1” right?
After your suggestion I’ve went further down the rabbit hole and it does seem many that have went with it are very satisfied. Including 1 who had also done OME on another Tundra saying he would probably go Eibach over OME…. With the sales going right now I could actually go “Stage 2” for the same price as OME….. “Stage 1” for about 2/3 the money with “building” the struts myself which is not an issue since I work in a shop and have everything at my disposal…..

 

Yes. Stage 1 with Eibach springs. Set on the bottom perch.

 

what shock are you using with the 612?

 

2 year old post. Don't expect an answer.......I could be wrong

 

Both of my 5100’s leaked inside of 10 k miles and always rode like shit. I am now on fox 2.5s. I should have bought once and cried once.

 

My rear 5100 just leaked. 3 years and 34k miles. Mostly pavement, some log roads, but nothing crazy. No 6ft speed drops. I guess, time for OME?
