Retired

Well 2 more days to go! Due to vax mandate I'm pulling the plug 1 year 2 months early.

 

Retired March 28th 2020. After 47 years of fixing stuff that's broke in car manufacturing plant and the last 20 years as a field service tech.
Don't miss it a bit.

 

Retiring in Jan 22 after almost 33 years civil service (20 army, 13 AF). I've had enough. Ready for the next thing....whatever that is.

 

Retired August 1st 2020 after 30 years as an aviation mechanic

 

Bailed (retired) after almost 21 years as a deputy. November 3rd. Took a month off and start with the DOJ as an investigator December 1st.

miss my fellow deputies but command staff killed it for me. I’ll probably do this for another 4 years and then Done done done !

 

Can't wait until it's my turn. Got another 20 to put in unless I win the lottery or some rich person with no kids adopts me for some weird reason. Unlike some of you, I've never liked work. Always did it, am dependable, and I do good work, but I don't find any real value in it outside of the paycheck.

I never knew what I "wanted to be" growing up (still don't), and thus never really had passion for any job or career path. I've been fortunate thus far and lucked into a decent career path, although it is not satisfying and when it's not mundane the idiocy of what has broken the monotony is frustrating. But it pays decent. And for a guy not motivated to rule the world in a career field, I guess that's about as good as I can expect.

 

That would be a great feeling.

Retired just over two years ago. 23 years active duty, just over ten more as a military contractor.

 

Retired Air force reserve in 1997 at 43. Retired from my county job after 26yrs at 55. Did nothing but fish and Rving for first 2yrs. Now I volunteer with a local veterans organization and local Historical Park. Putting in about 20hrs a month. Keeps my mind and body heathy and it gives me satisfaction that I'm doing something for my follow veterans and my local community.

 

Retired AF after 26 yrs. Retiring soon from defense contractor job. Lake is 16 miles and golf course is 5 miles from my driveway. Never thought I'd retire in my 50s, but COVID work-from-home taught me I'm ok just piddlin around the house and don't need much $.

 

Retired in 2015 at 59 y.o. The company I retired from hired me back to train some folks for ~ 2 years between then and now.
Had a great career importing and distributing CNC machine tools. I’ve seen a lot of the World but it wouldn’t bother me to never get on a plane again.
Now I piddle around the house and we’re getting ready to spoil our first grand child due in early March.
Definitely been blessed.

 

I'm done but here I am still waking up at oh-dark-thirty, it's instilled in my brain since I've been doing it for 45 years.

Like Coastboater I've been offered a contract job and I'm going to take it, the schedule is good 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off. It'll go for about a year but the money was good and I should be able to pay off the mortgage.

 

My update on retirement: I’ve been retired for 4.5 years now, and thought about going back to work. But have to admit to myself that there is more to life than making more money for the government to tap. I do not get up early but still go to bed at the same time, well close to it. Decided to move to mainly one level home, soon, as stairs all the time is a PIA for us. I remember my folks doing the shuffle walk when they were in their 80s and 90s. Not sure if I’ll live that long. Anyways, leaving for Maui tomorrow for 10 days, to hopefully get some sun and beach time in. I like the fresh seafood also!

 

I have 7 years left of full time employment..I think.

 

My pops just retired after 39 years at the post office as a rural carrier- it lasted 3 months and he got bored and went back part time to help them over xmas because they’re drowning and the dipshit that took over his route lasted a month and quit. (I subbed his route when I used to work there, it was the most well organized in the entire place and imo the most pleasant).
I only have about another 30 years to go but doubt I’ll ever be able to retire with the way the world is going.

 

I'm 53 and retired at 49. My wife is 43 and quit her job two years ago as VP of operations for a large mortgage origination firm to start a home based business and is killing it. To the point I'm now working for her part time sooooo I guess I may not be as retired as I would like think. Either way stress levels are at a minimum and I get to hang out with my dogs and work/play with my best friend now. Life is good being retired

 

Does medical retirement count? All my out processing paperwork says "retired" and I even have a retired military ID, but got the medical boot before my 21st birthday.

Edit: Lord I just realized I was "retired" in 2011, and didn't even acknowledge its been 10 years already.
