2015 SR5 Crew Max - Magnetic Gray

    Not much by way of 'major' mods, but here's a timeline of alterations so far.

    Day of purchase (5/11/15):

    The next day, it went back to the dealership for a 2.5" spacer up front (nothing in the back because I wasn't sure if I would need it). Also got 275/70/18 BFG AT's on the factory wheels.

    Without the rear block, the truck was about 1/4" higher in the front, which I didn't like. So I added the 1.5" rear block myself. Looked much more proportional afterwards.

    I then added my Yakima roof rack, which cleared the garage by about 1". Got lucky there...

    Picked up a TRD shift knob because I had a $100 voucher to the parts department and didn't really need anything else. It's pretty cool.

    That's all for now. Waiting on Husky liners and the dash panel to install my trailer brake controller. Will update later.

    I like the roof rack. I have 13 ft fishing kayak that's kind of a pain. Especially when I have a lot of camping gear, etc in the bed too. Like what's going to happen this weekend except the kayak has to share space with a lot of fencing materials/posts + the camping gear. Strap it up on top would solve that problem. Would come in handy during ski season too.

    I use it to haul a 13' kayak (Tarpon 130 tandem).

    I had that rack on my Tacoma, but removed it before the sale. Surprisingly, the cross bars are the same length for both trucks. They just stick out past the towers further on the Tacoma. I had the rack on there bc it is virtually impossible to carry a 13' kayak in a 5' bed, without some "creative" engineering (did that once and didn't want to do it again). Here's the same rack on the Tacoma:

    You got that right!!! I once had a Christmas tree tied to the roof of my wife's Sequoia and forgot about it. Pretty much shaved one side of the tree when I started into the garage. DOHT!!!

    Coworker did that with a bike on top. Ended up having to get a new bike and repair the garage and roof rack.

    Years ago my friend Jon was driving his ole man's truck to high school. Near the school was a train trestle that you had to drive under. Not a clearance problem for a F-150 unless you forget about your dads brand new high sided in bed metal cattle rack that was two feet too high. Heh Heh. I won't even go into how we got that truck out. too painful.:homer: X 1,000

    Towed the camper for the first time yesterday. From Greenville, SC to Stone Mountain, GA (about 130 miles one way). Camper is a 23 footer, weighs probably about 4200 pounds loaded (3850 dry). I am totally amazed at the tow capability of this truck. I know the camper isn't THAT heavy, in comparison to the Tundra's max, but coming from a Tacoma - it's night and day... I set the cruise in 62ish and just let it do its thing. The computer does a REALLY good job of shifting and there was always power on tap.
    When I started out, I forgot to turn on the Tow/Haul mode. It was doing fine, but I realized it at a red light about 10 miles into the trip. When I took off from that light with the T/H turned on, it was like I pressed the gas all the way to the floor, even though I just eased down on it just like normal. That's how significant the difference is in the shifting parameters. I'm totally thrilled with its performance. No more white knuckle and sweaty palms while traveling (even in I-85 / 285 Atlanta traffic).

    My 09 Tacoma had the 2.7L. You can probably imagine the difference compared to the 5.7L. Crazy nuts difference in tow capability.

    I drove my 09 Taco to AK and back from CO. I do miss the mpg and manual tranny. Bought in 2010 with 14K miles on it. If you count total days driving up and back=9 days=7900 miles. On the way back I had a 16 ft trailer with 2 snowmobiles on it. It did fairly well except long grades. 3rd gear tops. No tow/haul mode. I got almost what I paid for it last April as trade for Tundra.

    Added some LED's from vleds.com today.

    (4) 194's for the map and dome lights.
    (4) "Vanity" lights for the visors.

    I got the 6K white. Total for all 8 bulbs was only $35, including the shipping. Their customer service was great and the lights arrived in 2 business days (from Washington to SC) even though I only chose the regular shipping.

    It's hard to capture light output in a picture, but trust me when I say they are really white, and plenty bright (but not offensively bright). I'm 100% pleased.

    I was going to get their footwell kit, but they are back ordered until the end of June.

    $22 per kit, which includes an adaptor harness that plugs into the existing light socket, a Y-adaptor to allow you to run to the passenger side, and the 48" wiring extension. In looking at their website and talking with their customer service guy, they seem to really know their stuff.

    Tugs - I swear I'm not copying you, but now we're even more alike...

    N-Fab textured step bars arrived today. I shopped around on the interwebs for the best price, and was amazed at the differences I found. Directly from N-Fab they were about $500, with shipping. Another online place had them for $429 with free shipping, and I almost pulled the trigger on that. Decided to check eBay, for giggles. Found them for $362 and free shipping. I kid you not - I ordered on Thursday morning at 11:00am and they arrived today (Saturday). I was SHOCKED.

    In case it helps anyone in the future, here are the door seal measurements front and rear, with a 2.5" spacer up front, 1.5" spacer in the back, and 275/70/18:

    I have to say, I think I like the look WITHOUT them better than WITH them, but they were a necessity. I'm 5'11" and my wife is 5'8", and it was a chore to get into. I could get in okay, but noticed that I was having to "slide" out of the seat when I exited the truck. I knew that would wear out the bolster prematurely if I didn't do something.
