GM just totally redid their interiors on their SLE and above Sierras, Silverados, Tahoes, and Yukons. Massive improvement.

And I couldn’t agree more on the Rams. I put over 10k miles on a 2021 Etorque this year, and it had me at the Ram dealership looking at new Rebels, Laramies, and Limiteds. Extremely impressed, and if I wasn’t getting another new work truck in February (Tundra will go back to collecting dust), then I would have. Had them talked down to below MSRP and giving me $5k more than I paid for my Tundra 2.5 years ago. Dammit, I need to quit thinking about it.

Biggest problem with GMs is the ridiculous active fuel management or whatever they are calling it now. Literally just asking for engine failure and oil consumption for something that really doesn’t provide that much fuel savings

Fully agreed. Little things like the short nose and the way it drives smaller than it is are very important to me. It’s the best in the half ton segment as far as driving and feeling like a smaller truck. Contrast that with the Trail Boss I drove—it actually feels bigger than it is. And for weighing almost 1000 lb less, it felt very clunky.

Kind of a bummer about the 3rd gen Tundra—longer nose, longer overall, bigger turning radius. Seems that it’s moving away from the smaller “feel”. I guess it would be less of an issue if you get the Pro with all the off road cameras.

Yep. Except that non-compliance with CAFE is a sliding scale "penalty." So literally every hundredth of a mile per gallon has a price that can be calculated. So f'n ridiculous.

I just wonder how tundra got away with the old school v8 for so long with probably the worst gas mileage in its class. Do other vehicles in Toyotas lineup offset that one?

That's probably it. I'm not sure if CAFE is by brand or by manufacturer but, if it's by brand, think about GM or Ram, which only sell trucks and SUVs.

I'm also not sure if CAFE is regional or global. If it's global, think about how many small cars Toyota sells in Europe and Asia.

GM has to figure this out:
    1. Ditch the UAW
    2. 5.3L engines plagued with quality issue such as defective lifters the Vortec Tick
    3. GM cuts corners with inferior paint - how many peeling paints do you see after 5-10 yrs
    4. Interior plastic parts cheap - every GM the radio/infotainment knobs scratched faded
    5. Electrical problems. Poor quality control on harnesses and components
    6. Stop offering so many models/options. It’s confusing
    7. Incentivize dealers to actually provide customer service

Most of those are true for Ford and Ram, too.

Chevy, Ram and Ford are like my ex girlfriend. Good from far but far from good. Toyota is all I own and will ever own :muscleflexing:

Amen. See my build thread for my experience with my AT4, but it was brutal. Huge upgrade!

I tell you what nice about the Tundra. Waking up and not thinking about fixing your truck, driving your truck and not trying to figure out why its not working. I love that thing

Swapped out from a 2005 Silverado 2500HD with the Duramax after 194K miles. It was a good truck, but I didn't need the big diesel anymore. I couldn't take the drop in power or bed size associated with the Tacoma or Colorado, and the Tundra is a WAY better deal than either the GM or Ram with comparable options (by $15k-$20k). I LOVE the Tundra, though there are a few things that are different, along with a few annoyances:

Size: shorter than the old HD, but height and width seem pretty much the same. Like the fact its a little smaller overall.
Power: not sure yet, waiting till the end of break in period. Obviously they're in different towing classes, but passing power seems about the same.
Gas mileage: pretty much the same, just glad the Tundra takes regular gas
Ride: very good, just different from the HD
Steering: oddly enough, the old HD steering was both more precise and more responsive
Sound system: Both trucks had the upgraded factory stereos. The HD system was louder and gives you more volume per button push (I find this true when comparing the Tundra with any of our other vehicles, it takes a lot more button pushes to get much response to volume up/down control).
Infotainment: Obviously WAY better than the HD, but still not up to snuff when compared to either my 2011 SUV or my wife's 2011 sedan. (such as, why can't I control the phone on the dash multi-function display using the controls on the steering wheel instead of having to use the center touchscreen? Its a multi-purpose display and its all software driven, not something that would've been tough to do)
Transmission: seems fine, but does a lot more shifting than the Allison in the HD (and we'll just ignore the missing transmission cooler...... I have the aftermarket kit ready to install)
Interior finish: The Tundra is a Limited, the HD was an LT (back in the day when there were far fewer trim levels) and the Tundra is much, much nicer (though I do miss the adjustable side bolsters on the seat and had to put in seat jackers to bring the front end of the seat up to a similar feel).
Passenger seat: why doesn't the passenger seat have the same adjustability as the driver's seat? This is the first vehicle I've ever had where it's different. My wife isn't exactly short at 5'9", but she was disappointed that there was no way to adjust the passenger seat lower (this appears to be the same across all trims with bucket seats, and is also true in Tacomas and 4Runners).

Don't get me wrong. I bought the Tundra as a truck and its an awesome truck! I'm looking forward to having it for as many miles, if not more, than I had the HD. Of all the options out there it's the best value and has a proven track record. Too many engine options in GM and Ram (and nobody seems happy with any of them...). Just don't understand why some of the easier things to update/upgrade were never brought up to snuff.

This seems to be a common Toyota problem now. If I adjust the volume in my car from 6 to 7, there's a noticeable change. I can change the volume in my wife's Corolla from 25 to 35 and not notice a difference.
Same is true of the newer GMs (LT and SLE trims, anyway).
