Hey guys so Ive been looking for an on board air compressor to install in my truck. To be able to air down and back up at any location would be great! I'm looking at this one from ARB but am open to other options!
    http://store.arbusa.com/ARB-On-Board-High-Performance-12-Volt-Air-Compressor-CKMA12-P3572.aspx

Has anyone had any experience with mounting OBA?? Any info I can find about install is just on Jeeps! I'm mainly looking for tips or suggestions on install location for anyone who has done this already on a Tundra.

Hey Brandon, not sure if you got your compressor yet but I have the twin cyl ARB under my hood on a homemade mount. Note sure if you saw my build thread. Good luck and always looking for your next awesome mod.

Yes I saw your build tread and am very impressed with that aluminum hinge mount you made! Very smart for the limited space available for adding accessories in the engine bay. I have not bought my compressor yet but it's most likely next to buy on my list!
I was planning to make a bracket to mount it next to the air box. Then all I will need is to run wires to power and the switch. I'm not adding air bags or anything like that. Would just use the compressor to air my tires back up after hitting the trials. I will be taking pix and posting all my install info here when I get around to it! Hopefully sooner than later!

:yay:Came home to this last week! My girlfriend surprised me with this sitting in the kitchen when I came home. Guess I'm a lucky guy! Or she was sick of hearing me talk about how much I want this compressor!

I'm leaving on a road trip next week so this is a temporary half a$$ install job but it works!!

First had to figure out the wiring and also added my Blue sea fuse block...
    IMG_2574.jpg
Wiring across next to the airbox. Along with my ghetto home made metal laying around the house. I added a waterproof switch right next to the compressor since I don't need it inside the cab.

    IMG_2550.jpg
Here it is all done and ready for the trip! Once I get back I plan to make a quick disconnect mount so I can swap to other vehicles if I want.
    IMG_2563.jpg
Final impression it is quiet and aired up my 35" toyos from 20psi to 45psi in a little over 3 mins. I'm happy and can't wait to air down on the trials.

I just used some tech screws n went straight through the plastic lid. It's nice and snug and don't think it will come loose.

Got to use the compressor out on the road! Stopped by the St Anthony sand dunes during my road trip. So I aired down and went exploring! Very impressed with the performance. Got to air up before getting back on the road with no problems.

Ofcourse since my GF bought the compressor I made her air up one tire. She was happy it worked so quick also.

I've been thinking about an on board air system. But I was wanting to do an aluminum air tank with a viar Compressor. how does the arb compare?

Hahaha- thanks, CM-Lenny! I was going to try the same reverse psychology method on my wife, but sounds like it may no be a good idea. LOL.

NICE JOB on the install, Brannock452!!

Here is where I installed my compressor. It runs my Kleinn air horns and also has a air line for filling tires, grand kids toys.

From my reaserch the Viar systems are very comparable in a lot of ways and I've heard great things. I liked the ARB since it's been around for a long time and would be a reliable product. Plus I like the color blue.

I was thinking about adding a tank also for more Air volume later on. But for now the small compact ARB suits all my needs for just airing up my tires on the trails. At $275 I didn't think that was a bad deal for a reliable on board compressor.

As promised I wanted to remake the mount for my compressor since my first one wasn't up to par with my expectations. And this new mount is much easier to remove the compressor for any reason. Just 2 bolts and it's out. I work in a Fab shop so I just used some extra aluminum.080 laying around. Hope this helps anyone else looking into OBA in their tundra. Used this compressor many times now and am very happy. 3-4 mins per tire n I'm back to highway psi.

Air compressor is a GOOD idea !!...I lived right next to the Oregon dunes for most of my life...and being able to air down and air up is huge....especially playing in the sand box !!

Thank you! As far as I know buying a production mount for any of these compressors are not available. It's a tough market because cars and vehicles change so fast and so little people need a compressor inside the car. But for us offroad enthusiasts it's perfect and many of us have connections to some type of friend or fab shop that can make these mounts.
I do not own my own welder or shop so I am not able to build any custom things for anyone else at the moment! If you want something built contact me or the shop (CRB Fab in San Marcos CA)and I bet the boss man would have no problem making some parts!

    Thank you!

I have this on my build thread, but if you haven't seen it there, here it is here. Took a little time designing the fit, but I had fun fabricating it. These pics show a #6 SS/Teflon hose off the compressor head and I later installed a #8 hose for more volume / flow.

sorry i dont, i no longer have that truck anymore.
New truck i will have a metal box in the bed for my house battery, and in that box i will have the ARB. i no longer want to have all my systems routed in the engine bay, but rather in the back of the truck. along with a Spod to control it all.

it wont be sealed, it will have openings for the power lines since it will house the battery.. but i can make a bigger hole next to it to maximize air flow. didnt even think about that tbh

Thinking about mounting mine on the floor under my spares - nobody can steal it or see it but still air flow. Not hard to access other than moving both spares.
