So, I met the HR lady at the gate. She greeted me, and I was polite as could be. We went inside the plant, and up a flight of stairs to her office. (Really nice office. Super neat looking, and new. Modern look.)

While we were waiting for the Manager and supervisor, we made small talk. I noticed a plie of uniforms on the floor, and unzipped my jacket. Showed her that I was wearing the same exact set, and joked that it wouldn't be hard for me to adjust the fashion change. She thought it was funny.

Manager showed up first, I stood up, and shook his hand. Introduced myself, and then made small talk with him. He said he was from Germany, and came to America with the company.

Here came the supervisor. Again, stood up and shook his hand. Introduced myself. I unzipped a jacket pocket, and produced resumes. I handed them out, and the HR lady said "you actually have resumes?? That almost never happens. I pulled out the scout card, and said that I like to be prepared."

Interview went well. Gave them a run down of my experience, and my budding knowledge. We stopped halfway through the interview because the manager asked about my braces. Talked about cost and then some benefits of them. Made notes on my pocket notebook.

Interview continued, and at the end of it I asked if there was any questions I could answer for them. They asked a few questions. Mostly general equipment questions. "Do you have experience with XYZ or ABC??" Answered.

They asked me if I had any questions for them, and I drew blanks. Was calm, but felt like a deer in the headlights... I sheepishly said "No, I don't think so..."

The manager said "What about benefits???" I was back on track! I laughed, and apologized. I explained this was only my 6th interview in my life, and the supervisor and hr lady both said almost in unison "Damn, you're doing great then!"

Asked about vacation time, and holidays. Health care. Life insurance, 401k, dental, vision, etc.

Never brought up pay, but the manager asked me what I was currently making, and for a split second I wasn't sure if I should lie through my teeth or not. I decided to be up front, and honest because I remembered putting my current supervisor down as a reference. Something I kind of regret now. Holds the power to bad mouth me because TG is hurting for maintenance men. Don't think he would do this, but wouldn't be surprised either...

When they were done telling me all this information while I was frantically taking short hand notes, I asked if there was anything I could have done better, or if there was anything that stands out on my resume to them.

The manager said that I don't have a clear goal on my resume which is 100% accurate. He also said I should elaborate some on my experience. Go more in depth. List projects I've worked on, or things that I'm proud of that I've accomplished.

I thanked him for his constructive feedback.

The supervisor said "When, shit... if we hire you, there's one requirement on your first day. You have to bring in something from (local to me restaurant) on your first day. I laughed, and said "Hi, my names Noah. I'll be your server today. Can I take your order now, or later?"

We all laughed. I stood up, and thanked everyone for their time, and the potential opportunity. Shook their hand. The hr lady walked me off site. I asked her while we walked how she thought I did. She said " I thought you were terrific. Your eye contact was great, you got up and shook their hands, you even took you hat off! Your momma and daddy must have done a good job raising you! Plus, you seem to know your stuff!"

I thanked her, and told her I'd let them know.

So I left, I recorded a short video for mom, and dad then I drove 1.5 hours to work. Clocked in just before being tardy. Don't want to ruin my perfect attendance on my way out the door.

My brother had his Hutch stolen 3 weeks after the Christmas we got them because he left it in our front yard (we were supposed to lock them up in the backyard). We did not live in a high-crime area at all...but a nearly new Hutch was not something to be left lying around in early 1983...it was THE BMX bike to have at the time. My parents did not replace it (they couldn't afford to) and I don't think I've ever seen my dad as angry as he was that day...

In the early 80s I went from a Huffy to a Sears "BMX" bike and then BEGGED my parents for a Hutch...that they couldn't afford. I CHERISHED that thing. They had to get my bother one too...but he didn't have the affinity for it I did, hence the reason it was stolen. My dad was beside himself when I spent all my birthday money (only a few weeks after X-mas) to replace parts on my brand new $600 bicycle...some things never change...:rofl::rofl:

Employers always ask current salary so they can ensure a potential offer is more but not drastically more. It’s ok to decline to state. Works in your favor if you are underpaid. Lying is risky as they could require proof as part of the deal (I’ve heard Deutsche Bank does this). Also not really my style to flat out lie about a number. At the later stages of a career if well paid you can choose to answer truthfully. I typically always do so but it’s never actually helped me. I’d be better off declining to state.

I also would not necessarily recommend admitting you haven’t interviewed a ton. That is probably ok but does you no actual favors. No need to apologize for being who you are and where you are at in life.

Everyone likes to read a “goal” on a resume but it’s such a load of manure, people work for pay/ego/necessity and companies hire for need, not to lift employees up to some professional goal. You can probably steal a line or two off some generic resume somewhere, “To deliver best in class service to our customers” or “to become an expert in the field of xxx” and that will suffice.

I’d say the best reveal in your post is that the manager has German background.

@Jack McCarthy I downloaded glass door. I checked them out. 3.3 stars. No reviews that I could. So maybe I didn't look in the right thing, or there aren't any yet.

Excellent. This is bloody brilliant and I hope they're an appropriately great company for you to work for.

If it's a small company you may not find many postings about it unfortunately. That's one of the downsides.

Funny though, I was just looking at them earlier myself and how people are only being hired to put out fires here. I'll be glad when I can leave in early 2024 and be done with them.

Another thing to keep in mind with sites like Glassdoor, is people are much more likely to go on those types of sites and speak if they have grievances rather than if they had a good experience. Of course it's helpful for highlighting the red flags, but Glassdoor might not give you an accurate representation of all the positives working for a company.

The presence or absence of strong negatives about the leadership team is what Glassdoor provides. Best case is no red flags. It’s mostly the same as ripoffreport.

not sure why companies are tricky like they do last year before mass psychosis hit the world i had two interviews with seperate companies. one job was a travel job 2 weeks on and 2 off as listed in original description. we interviewed over phone (speaker only) and it went well. they asked questions and i answered truthfully about pay $110k and they seemed onboard then the new news came out about them switching to 3 weeks travel and 1 off. I told them forget it and thank you. Hahahaha

Other job was local and i made it to second interview of which then was shut down when the world shut down to slow the curve for 2 weeks. i knew right then i’d be continuing the job i’ve been doing for 30 years. this summer i’ve noticed the 30 year olds are breaking out and doing their own things business wise. I actually witnessed and offer from one employer to another person for $12 hour job in retail after the girl said she made $3k prior week. The girl said no thanks hahhaaha.

last month had record quits in the u.s. which tells me somethings that people are fed up and finally taking action and starting bptheir own biz. Punk rock. corps are slimy imo and you can tell the types that feed in that enviroment. Chamelions. Corps need you more than you need them but they are making their own bed.

FWIW, I've never had a goal on my resume. I always thought it was an odd thing to put. My goal is to make more money while doing a job I don't hate.

I've had a few headhunters review my resume and all stated it looked great and couldn't offer anyway to improve it. I'm not saying you shouldn't add it, but I really doubt it's going to prevent you from securing a new job, especially right now when employers are desperate.

    Oi!
I just remembered that I cut the front sway links off my truck when I did the front suspension.
With a 2" lift, is there any compelling reason to get some variety of uprated links? Or will stock replacements get the job done?

    TIA

Ring and Arlo are great from a user standpoint. I have more experience with Arlo, and they let you have basic functionality and unto 8 cameras connected without paying a monthly subscription.

if you want maximum security and ensuring no one is watching, hardwired with a DVR is the way to go. You need some technical knowledge to get that up and running though.

The grass is always greener when looking for a new job, just always keep that at the front of your mind. Don't settle or give a prospective new employer an ounce, even if you think it's your dream gig. Unless you're working for yourself and noone else, companies / corps are going to get the best deal out of you that they can. Though the current landscape is a hiring shortage, I've interviewed enough people in the last year to see otherwise. Every position has a next man up.

@Tundra2 I'll cut to the chase, he wants pics.

Meanwhile I'm back to watching FedEx tracking info. This is leaving Indiana today and should be here by 12/2. Its really olive but the photo makes it look gray. This will be the last of my collection most likely, at least for a while. I'd still like to find a cheap LP as a project at some point.
