Joe Mammas Pro - Putco Bed Rack Installed

After much deliberation I settled on the Putco Venture Tec HD rack. The deciding factor was that it allegedly works with all Bak revolver hard roll up tonneau covers. I can’t confirm this since my revolver X4S hasn’t arrived but I got the rack assembled and fitted.

First impression is good, not great, but good enough. The powder coat finish could be better and seems thin in spots. Washers were not supplied for the 1/4” bolts that fasten the crossbars to the square nuts. They’re probably not necessary but would be nice to have. Instructions don’t provide torque specs for the fasteners, I messaged Putco to request them.

I lifted my bed rail caps, measured and marked the location of the stake pocket center then used a 1-1/8” step bit to make a nice clean smooth hole. Came out real nice and if the rack comes off I can insert a hole plug to cap it (or just buy new rail caps). The alternative method is to cut out a square where the stake pocket is but these 2021 rail caps don’t have the location scribed on top and I wanted it done nice and clean.

Thank you, overall I am pleased with the fit and finish, it’s a good looking rack and pretty solid.

 

UPDATE:

I finally received the Bak revolver X4S tonneau cover and not only was one of the rails scratched down to the bare metal but they also protrude too far over the bed rails to make for a perfect fit with the Putco rack. What a shame. Both the rack and tonneau are being returned. Back to the drawing board for this build.

 

Have you looked at the Tuwa Moab rack. It looks like a nice rack with a lot of adjustability. Also claimed that it will work flawlessly with the Bak Revolver. I've had my Revolver X4 for a few years now and it has been great, but now I am looking for a good looking rack that works with it.
