I just had mine done with the black fluid film by a local guy for $210. I let it sit outside for a week after the first night in the garage cause it had a strong smell. No longer can smell it. The guy told me to stay away from under body high pressure washes and it will last a couple years. He also Does "touch ups" to the original coats for $75 2-3 years after doing it. I know some people do it every year, just depends on how heavily they salt where you drive, and how much you drive in it.

He sprayed my springs but kept my 5100 Bilsteins from getting any spray on them somehow. He dropped my skid plate and sprayed behind it, he managed to keep the TRD rear sway bar pretty clean even while coating the back axle.

Looks pretty decent but the guy with the dually still has some surface rust. I think fluid film is better IMO, but if you can pay someone else to do it, why not?

I think the 2nd gen and 2.5 guys are just posting here for our unquestioned expertise in protecting our trucks from rust.

AH! That makes sense. Come post in the forum with the folks having the 15-21 year old trucks and bad frame recalls, because they probably have the same frame problems which just haven't had time to surface yet :D

I thought it was really interesting actually. It looks like our '20 Highlander has covers all over under the chassis. It's made out of like this wool-like material, and is molded like a fender liner. Virtually no exposed frame or metal underneath.

Not a big fan of Repair Geek, I prefer Project Farm's test methodology. The following video was posted in this thread, but I'd also recommend checking out this thread for other chatter for other feedback from us 1st Gen gimps. This is one of those topics that comes up super-frequent, the newbs seem posting new threads about it vs. searching. :D

Still, like that last video, which is chock full of good info, this one has add'l solutions if you're a DIY'er, and will show nicely why some products are inferior.

Where'd you find a guy? Like...what type of shop does it? Detailer? Autobody? I haven't been able to find anyone around me (Cincy). I did buy FF and a gun, but I don't have access to a lift or anything, so I'd prefer to pay someone and save my time/back/ect. Thx for any info.

Just had my truck sprayed with fluid film, I have also had nh oil sprayed. As long as you keep up with it you will not have any problems.

I don't see anybody in Cincy listed on the fluid film application locator on their site. Some small shops wont pay to be listed by them though. I do see a couple places in Columbus that do it "Hillard Green Detailing Garage". I would find a detailer or a place like Ziebart and call around. I know most of the Ziebrt type places around me do it.

*Also, forgot to mention, I had mine done by an axle shop. So you might have luck at a 4x4 shop too.
