Problem 1 - I initially had issues with FM reception and I believe I figured out that the FM/AM antenna in 2020 is powered and the antenna adapter had to have a blue power wire. I don't listen to FM outside of football/hockey season and it worked perfectly last year and now there is clearly no power going to the adapter as the reception sucks. It sounds like it did before I ordered the powered adapter. I plan to pull the radio and see - my guess is bad adapter? If that's not the issue and the connections are good what else could it be?

Problem 2 - I never actually got the amp turn on to work and instead I depend on the auto-sensing function on the Kappa 5. It works but is delayed and it has the annoying habit of turning off when the volume is low but still audible. I believe there is a wire from the factory harnesses under the passenger seat that is the amp turn on? Anyone know which one? I'd love to not have to run a separate wire from the HU.

    Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same issue with the FM reception. Connecting the blue wire made no difference at all. My amps are connected to the remote turn on wire directly from the head unit. I have a Pioneer and my remote turn on is blue.

Hmmm…FM including HD radio most definitely worked after I installed what essential was a power antenna adapter and it worked for months and months. I’m tempted to take it to a shop and have them troubleshoot it.

Yeah when I switched from the stock radio to the Pioneer my FM reception has been pretty much non-existent. I do have an excellent shop here that has done installs on newer Tundras so I'll call him on Monday and see what he says.....I don't know why I didn't think of that before lol.

Do you recall if your harness on the Kenwood has a blue power antenna wire and also a blue and white wire? I came across a post on the 4Runner side and one of them said that they tied the blue wire and the blue and white together and problem solved. I have a Pioneer but I am going to look online to see if I can find out what my harness has....aggravating as hell for sure.

I pulled mine out today to look at it since I had to replace the radio dash kit and sure as shit, the blue wire wasn't hooked up on mine. I could have swore that I did, but with Maestro being in there as well, there is a whole nest of wires.

Yes, the antenna adapter should have a blue wire and that should go to the blue/white amp turnon wire to give it power. I figured this out during the install and this is how it was hooked up when the radio had reception. I believe the antenna needs to be powered because it's the sharkfin antenna and when I was installing last year no one seemed to know Toyota made that change. I'm guessing when I pull my HU I'll find the blue antenna adaptor wire and blue/white amp turnon worked themselves loose...or at least I hope that's the issue since it's an easy fix.

Pulled the head unit today and it looks like the antenna adaptor wire got pinched and pulled away from the plastic portion with some exposed wire. I also broke the clip on the stupid Scosche dash trim piece and so I need to order both of those and replace.

I did the same thing with my dash trim. Keep an eye on Amazon. I had the Metra in my cart at $40 and it dropped to $22.00 a week later. You can black out the silver on the Metra kit by the way.

Alright...replaced the antenna adapter and all is well with HD radio all over the place. FWIW...the blue wire on the adapter is attached to the blue wire marked Ant Cont (antenna control) on my Kenwood and not the amp turn-on wire.

Looking for help. I originally had the stock HU and a DSR-1 with a TO3 harness. I later moved to the Kenwood with an RR/TO2 harness and I still have the TO3 harness under the passenger seat just to run the factory speaker wires. Is there a remote turn on wire that comes out of the factory harnesses to the TO3 harness? I do have at the amp turn on wired correctly to the TO2 harness and there is an "Amp Turn-On" wire on the TO3 harness but it's part of the harness that is no longer used since I don't use the DSR-1 anymore. What do I need to do short of running another separate amp turn on wire

Regarding the amp turn on wire in the Toyota harness under the front seat James said, "The small very thin wire in the plug that has no speaker wires coming out of it"

Can anyone make sense of this sentence?

So I have a number of unused harnesses connectors that are part of the TO3 harness under the passenger seat since I'm no longer using the DSR-1. I had an epiphany to use my voltage meter and just see if any of the wires were 12v and whether or not they were constant or only powered on accessory. Sure enough, I found one and connected it to the amp and the amp turn on works great now.

    Hi All,
I know this is a old thread but, I am also having troubles with my usb for “wired” CarPlay. I am able to charge my phone but always get a “connection failed” message. Cruchfield says it’s the. But I’ve tried both a OG Apple white cord as well as a audiophile cinnamon cord with no luck. The Pioneer 8600 NEX has a usb-c that needs a adapter to get back to usb. I broke pioneer’s adapter on install and got a new one off Amazon. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Are you daisy-chaining the USB-C to USB to AXXESS/Toyota USB adapter (to keep the OEM port) or did you connect the Apple cable directly to the USB-C adapter? If the shielding is bad on the USB-C adapter, this could cause an issue but it would have to be pretty bad!

Lee, Correct I am daisy chaining from to usbc adapter to crutchfield USB adapter to maintain the factory (OEM) usb port. I get the same thing when I plug directly into the usbc into the back of the unit. Phone will caharge but won’t open Appleplay.

Alb1 - I did the 2.1 and 3.0 firm ware update since I’ve had the unit
