It would be interesting to find out if they put jumper terminals in the engine compartment. Pretty sure BMW does this as the battery lives in the trunk on some models.

I know I'm going to get a lot of :crapstorm: for this post but I can't help it - it's only because I love Toyota that I'm worried.

If Toyota took 15 years for THIS Tundra what is the outlook for it over the next 5 years regarding sales? I'm pretty sure every other manufacturer is going to be releasing/announcing fully electric versions (Ford already is) within the next 2 years. All of which will have better capabilities than the 2022 Tundra.

It seems like poor timing for Toyota and this offering.

In my mind the Gen 3 Tundra will be short-lived and Toyota will be forced to do a full-redesign very quickly to keep up. Sure, ICE vehicles aren't going anywhere soon but EVs are about to explode onto the scene and people are going to buy them over ICE, probably 2-1. Just the way I see it, but flame away.

Driving around town - certainly. Towing/hauling? A case can be made they are more capable - especially locally. Which is probably 90% of most use-case scenarios? We're on the cusp of better performance at a lower cost of operation and maintenance. And let's face it the new Tundra is not designed as a work truck. Hence, my concerns that once the big 3 release their EVs the Tundra isn't going to look like a cost effective alternative unless they do something inside of 15 years. Heck, it'll be old and tired within 5 years.

Are sure the hybrid version will have a max payload of 1940 I find that hard to belive with the weight of the battery

There was a tow hook usage poll on the previous thread and roughly 50% of responders had used them.

I believe they said the TTv6 still has the battery in the engine compartment. It's only the hybrid that has it in the cab and that is due to the fact that there is the large capacitor in the engine compartment in the hybrid engine.

Just got a call from my local dealer. $51,869 MSRP for a super white SR5 crewmax, convenience package, and other "add-ons"

Anyone heard of adventure tire/wheel combo?

For prospective 3G Sequoia buyers here's a look at a bare bones 2022 LC300. Possibly what a 3G Sequoia SR5 will be for a low entry price. Here’s Why the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser 300-Series Should Be Sold in America - YouTube

Cloth seats, manual front seats, basic infotainment and dash display. But auto 4HI, 4LO, I don't see MTS and Crawl Control, just the basics. 3G Sequoia SR5 you probably will need the Offroad package to get MTS and Crawl Control. Hehe, I don't see tow hooks.

Interesting… the Land Cruiser is being sold with 3 engine choices. The first is the 4.0 litre 4Runner engine, then a powerful diesel then the 3.44 tt “tundra” motor. I’m thinking the majority of land cruisers are going to come with the 4.0 litre or diesel which will protect it’s amazing reliability record.

Until it has the same range (esp. towing) and can "fill up its tank" in <5 minutes, it is majorly hamstrung for what I would need. I can extend the fuel range of my truck by 30-50% just by carrying jerry cans. How would this work with a Rivian?

Granted, I haven't been following the Rivian very closely, but I did see a video posted here of it playing in Moab. A bone stock (down to the Michelins) Tundra TRD Pro did all that too

The 1.5 year wait is for the TRD Pro.

I hope you all make good on your hatred of the 22 Tundra so I can get one soon.

Every truck offers much more than the Tundra. Had been since the Gen 1.

However, the Tundra offers the feature that matter most and that no others can.

    Less is more. :burnrubber:

I’ve been wondering how much more toxic the batteries will get as the tech advances. But I’m admittedly a “no such thing as a free lunch” guy…

You do bring up a good point and I completely agree.

Front and centre to that argument is nuclear. No good way of disposing of the waste for eons, but we just keep up coming up with deeper and deeper tunnels to bury it (see Finland) instead of directly dealing with the issue. Nuclear solves the green house gas issue which is the issue “de jour” but creates a whole new (and potentially worse) problem - mining, production and disposal.

But again, policitians aren’t worried about those issues because consumers aren’t either in the immediate time. Fossil fuels have been demonized and sentenced to death by career politicians (the same ones flying around the world to talk about climate change) so whether I like it or not, an alternative which undoubtedly come with its own issues is just waiting in the wings.

You may not care about the list - but everyday consumers DO. And rightly, or wrongly, are influenced by it.

Trd pro payload is 1440lbs. Include 2 adults in the truck and you will be at 1000lbs only.

My question is, what is it about the 3rd gen that will make Tundra drivers start following payload guidelines?

There are currently at least two flatbed camper conversion Tundras on YouTube that sit at 9k lbs, and both of the million-mile Tundras routinely carried loads well in excess of the door jamb (one guy says his loads were regularly 1500-2700 lbs; the other guy’s bed is shredded even worse). Neither owner was chastised by Toyota engineers when interviewed; in fact, Toyota proudly touted this info. Also, most builds on here are at or over GVWR.

I bet most 3rd gen TRD Pro drivers aren’t going to let the door jamb numbers get in the way of their builds just like the current 2nd gen guys.

The engineers when interviewed of course wouldn't chastise a build in public. Kind of goes against selling trucks.

Agreed. But not even a safety disclaimer or warning.
3rd gen even has a fully boxed frame instead of the bouncy open C channel in the rear of the 2nd gen

Will the new 2023 Sequoia be a "Poor Man's" Landcruiser (70K vs 90K)? if it is I would consider the Sequoia over a Tundra.

I still have my 2007 RCSB to do truck things and I am going to keep it till it breaks down. My 1993 Toyota pickup is still running great so hope the Tundra will follow in its footsteps.

There is still a bunch of guessing about the 2022 Tundra, let alone anything even remotely more that wild guesses for a 2023 Sequoia that no one has even seen yet.

I think Toyota is making the wise move with hybrids. That is the logical stepping stone to EVs in the future, but things that cannot be mentioned on this site have gotten ridiculous about it and are putting the cart before the horse.

I am wondering as well. A combo of the Tundra and LC is perfect for me. In particular the Sequoia / LC auto 4x4 is a huge seller to me as someone who drives on snow/ice for half the year.

Am very curious if they will drop the IRS and go with the same set up as the Tundra or LC.

Going back to the Tundra / LC / 4R / Tacoma all sharing the new TNGA Platform, and if they will consolidate their rear configurations to all be a form of coil multi link. Basically eliminating the Seqouia IRS, and the Tacomas leaf spring suspension.

    Agreed.

Back to the 2022 Tundra. Not gonna lie, the more I see of it, the more I like it. If I were in the market for the truck, I'd be downright excited to take one for a whirl. Probably wouldn't go hybrid, just because of my extreme cold temps. The only thing I'm not super keen on is the reduced tank capacity. It'd be nice to still have the 38 gallon tank, IMO.

Gas stations don't make a profit on fuel either. It's all the convenience items they sell.
