Not sure if this is what you are referring to or not, but here's what mine does. If I slow down to about 5 mph (and even if I coast for a while at that speed) the truck can't decide if it should be in first or second gear when I hit the accelerator. It drops into first then immediately switches to second and the truck kicks... making me look like a dumbass in traffic, I'm sure. Thought my transmission was slipping with only 1,000 miles on it. I asked the mechanic @LOTSOFTOYS and he said this was normal because it's an electronically controlled transmission and it's working as fast as it can to determine the proper gear. I've also noticed that even at higher speeds if I let off the gas, when I get back into it the rpm's jump a little and then level off. I'm assuming this is the same issue and it doesn't kick because I'm going faster. I'm in stop and go traffic every day in the 5 o'clock 500 so this is very noticeable to me. Kinda sucks but what can you do. Sorry for the novel, but hope this helps.

I've always considered this characteristic of electronically controlled transmissions. My Tundra does it, our 07 Sienna does it and the commercial trucks with automatics that I've driven have all done it. It's like the shift logic is anticipating that the operator is going to hammer the throttle after being off throttle so it selects the lower gear for that hard acceleration. I find that a very gentle throttle application will smooth out the occurrence.

Electronically controlled trans most likely. My 08 Tacoma does it and I've noticed it with the tundra in traffic as well.

I'm just used to it I suppose.

I'm able to smooth it out about 1 out of 10 times. Have to push in the accelerator like I'm 100 and my ankle is broken to not get the kick at low speeds or the rev'ing of rpm's at higher speeds. Haha. Feel like I'm holding up the people behind me.

my truck does this. so glad i read this, because it drives me crazy. i notice it most when i do rolling stops. engine revs if i don't consciously and slowly accelerate. ive also noticed response is terrible at high speeds. just feels like very slow shifting. what's the point of all the power if tranny can't handle it?

edit: i talked to my dealer about it. service manager drives a tundra himself, and explained its inherent to the truck. i was skeptical, but now i'm more inclined to believe him after reading this thread.

No "Shifting Issues" with my 2010 DC. Making use of the Sequential Shifter and choosing the gear that I know is correct, solved my issues, BEFORE they started!:notsure:

I think what you're feeling at the end there is the torque converter unlocking and then locking back up again.

Exactly.....this is what's occuring at the higher speeds. Most all autos do that (they all have lock-up converters now).

Choosing a gear that's low enough to prevent the heat caused by un-locking/locking Torque Converter is part of the solution.

Same thing pretty much happens with my 2017 as well but I usually shift through the gears manually
