So I changed my cabin air filter and didn't pay attention to the arrow lol. Which way should these things go?

I bought a filter recently, and it said in the instructions point the arrow up. But then on the filter it said airflow with an arrow indicating. Stupid. The dirt collects on top of the filter so obviously that is the direction of flow. The box contradicted itself. There is a long thread around here where just became a running joke.

:boink:First gen cabin air filters are known as vibrissae and cilia. It’s OK if you have to google that. ;)

Its pretty hard to get a definitive answer here it seems. o_O The correct answer, like some others have stated is that the fan pulls down, so the arrow goes down. For the Non-Believers, pull the filter, turn the fan on, and stick a piece of paper in the area the filter is placed. Science.

The airflow is indeed downward, assuming all 4 tires are touching some form of earth, pavement…

Some filters have an arrow labelled “airflow”, while some have an arrow labelled “up” in my experience. The folds of the pleated filter should have the widest part facing the inlet, so the airflow helps them seal against the sides of the housing. I hope this makes sense, it’s not the easiest thing to explain.

Point taken, it seems to be a misunderstanding all around.
