Also lower payload on the hybrid probably. There are definitely trade-offs. I’m beginning to rethink my preference for the hybrid and am seriously considering the “base” twin turbo version.

Sr5 for the win! Loaded down sr5 seems perfect. Then if you want more cool stuff under it upgrade it later with aftermarket parts and have a nice custom tundra.

Toyota claims since 2001 only 1% of hybrid batteries have needed replacement. You are right in that we need to think of the Tundra hybrid as more of an e-diesel. It was put there for power and performance not efficiency.

Maybe a dumb question, but let’s say the tundra battery goes bad a needs replacing, will one still be able to drive around with just the engine like a non hybrid version, or is it set up to where if the battery’s bad, then the whole system is down?

No from what I have read the electric motor starts the truck. And there is no stand alone engine starter. So dead batteries equals “no truck workey”.

I thought someone posted that there is a starter for cold starts? To the Google!

Found it: "That electric motor also assumes starter duties for the combustion engine; although the Tundra is fitted with a traditional starter as well, Toyota told us it only engages in extremely cold conditions"

I'm not really sure I believe that. There is a pretty good market for Prius batteries. Prius batteries are around $2,500 for remanufactured ones but only last a couple of years because they still have some of the old cells that tested OK. A new battery is around $5-$7k. You can buy an old Prius pretty cheap.

You have to get the advanced tech package to get the larger tank. I’m not buying this truck. Just one the dealer has unspoken for.

I live nowhere near a Tesla Supercharger, but there are 5 gas stations in town.

So no Tesla for me, at least not until they significantly improve their build quality.

Maybe then I will have an electrician put in a 240V 80amp circuit to an outlet in the garage to charge an EV.

Not the same as the original. I would have no idea if it would perform the same. I doubt they could make it better than the OE original design. If also says 4 hours to install. So add 4 hours of labor time to the cost because most shade tree techs won't be changing out their own battery.

"The NewPriusBatteries.com Hybrid Battery is different than an original Toyota Hybrid Battery, but it is made to be interchangeable"

Wow. Best looking color they have. My how opinions can differ.

But then again I suppose I'm partial to it.

I got to be honest I have never owned a hybrid anything. Personally I tend to prefer True bloods (full bloods) champion blood line etc…. So i truly have know idea if the battery goes down if you can still run the ice or not . Sorry mate guess im to old , and i sure do feel like it

I dunno, the RAM rebel and backcountry look pretty good. Better than a boring all white "truck".
