I have an important question. How is everyone getting the wife to agree to buy the supercharger?

    My answer is unfair.

I sold my fun extra car which was my legacy GT. I had purchased that car with money made over the years from buying motorcycles at good prices that I’d keep and ride for a season and then sell usually for profit as I tried something different. I now have no extra cars or motorcycles. I’ve found putting away 50-100 bucks from each paycheck to save up helps me reach my goals too. The patience is the problem, but I was wanting a supercharged tundra since they were available as a dealer option. Now the truck has to fill all of the roles for me, including the need for speed. Luckily we both love camping and have a travel trailer, so pulling that with ease gives both of us peace of mind. Towing is night and day even with stage 1. It feels unstoppable pulling on the hills, pick a speed and just part throttle keeps you there.

I said why not and went all in. I just ordered the griptec 80mm from superchargersonline. Not cause it’s better, just cause they knew the availability of that one sooner. I didn’t want to risk buying something that’s on back order with an unknown ship date. I know in the end I’ll always be curious about the smaller pulley so figured I should just do the tuning process once and done.

so...south Houston to Belton TX 4hrs. 3 people in truck with overnight stuff I'm a stock '20 1794

going there into a head wind - cool front coming in - I got 16.199mpg avg 65mph

coming back with slight tailwind 18.1mpg avg 65mph

    ain't that grand?

I guess the intercooler offsets the blower drag? I was rarely under boost. only on hills & @ 65 i passed NOBODY.

i was amazed at that mileage. I would get that before the blower.

trans ran @ 212-213 the whole trip.

    have not installed cooler yet.

Here is a dyno graph showing the Whipple supercharger. Look how there is NO torque in the lower to mid RPMs. This graph along with this great thread made up my mind to get the Harrop.

could this be because he could not lock out the downshift? looks like it.

it's odd, 'cus it's a positive displacement blower too....

theoretically...isn't the charge cooler with a whipple? by a smidge.

these are great times....we are going to see different tunes with different blowers produce different numbers on the SAME engine.

was that done in AZ? look at the temp on the first pull 108??

    2nd pull 70 degrees.....come on, man.

Yea I saw the wild swing in temperature. Really trying to max out the power gains there…

I didn’t think of the gear lockout. It’s seems impossible to get apples to apples comparisons between the different blowers. What is the reason for cooler temps on a Whipple?

it produces boost UNDER the blower, by squeezing it down between the 2 rotors. "engineering explained" youtube channel did a good job explaining. I understand it - just have a hard time articulating it.

i wanted one, but Harrop had the better pkg.

This article explains the difference; keep in mind the TVS design is an improvement to the Roots design:
    https://kennebell.net/tech/supercharger-tech/twin-screw-vs-roots/

Edit: The Whipple also ships with a intercooler reservoir which means more water mass available to circulate through the system.

Edit: The Engineering Explained video comparing the four different styles of S/C's:

Prospeed who installs both straight up stated that you won’t see the torque out of the Whipple compared to the Harrop or Mag. They just don’t spin fast enough on our trucks. And neither one is running out steam up top, so why not have more torque. Also, as stated the tvs2650 is a real improvement on roots blowers of the past.

so the compression process is more like a centrifugal, yet has the physical assembly of a roots?

    interesting.

I stand by my Harrop choice. Low end TQ is nice. very nice. childishly nice.

I'm still shocked by the mileage..sorry to belabor that.

Just noticed something while coloring the Harrop stamp on top of the Blower red...Should i have gotten a shorter belt on stage 2?

i used the same belt and its not as tight as stage 1.

I wouldn’t call the compression process like a centrifugal, I think it’s just a characteristic of that large blower not reaching its efficiency range at lower RPMs. As for the belt, you keep the same one. Even on a 75mm pulley it’s the same belt. The tensioner should be taking up the slack.

Not sure. You may have to get them custom but probably about half that with upgraded rods. The ones I've seen prefabed are a higher ratio with an option for custom ratio.

    https://xatracing.com/xat-manley-3ur-forged-pistons.html
    https://xatracing.com/bc-rods-3ur-brian-crower-3urfe-h-beam-connecting-rods.html?category_id=6531

I stopped looking at lowered compression when folks were reporting that they couldn't get the engine to run well. Its hard to garner what the issues were and what they did; most of the posts were fairly old too. I'm interested but I don't want it to be a problematic upgrade. Viktor Gs long post probably talks to lower compression (though I think he went the nitro route). Curious to hear what tuner shops have to say about it.

agreed. I'm settled in Stage 2. I also know the next step - if there is one...is a Steve Morris built motor. 1200hp pump gas BBC.

with a transmission from this dude. https://www.youtube.com/c/PrecisionTransmission

Which would be awful nice in a stock looking 1794. it would be cheaper than a new truck - kinda.

Morning all :) I’m about to pull the trigger on some ARH LT. Does anyone know which dimension one is recommended? 1 3/4 or 1 7/8?
