So I have a 2002 2WD 6cyl 3400. For several months my transmission has been shifting hard. Fluid level good and changed.

I decided to change all three ignition coil packs(Toyota Parts). Now my transmission is shifting perfectly. Is this possible? Someone educate me.

The only reason I changed them is because they were original with 167000 miles. No cracks. Got them for $81 each so I pulled the trigger.

An engine miss fire can feel like a hard shifting trans, engine is working harder not running right, engine power not where it should be so it was struggling, hitting harder when changing gears and then power drops back down. So yes, bad coil packs, spark plugs can certainly make the truck feel like that. Glad you got it sorted out.

Thank you….actually got really lucky. I thought I had a transmission going out. I didn’t have any fault codes. I just happened to find a good deal on Toyota Coil packs and said wth.

I dunno, but I do know throttle position affects shift points from 04-06 V8. So if electrical is shitty, cause your coils are shitty, and it takes more throttle to move, the computer says too much throttle to shift. And you are burning through rpms/pedal position due to lack of power/spark not lack of transmission performance, maybe shit gets wierd. If you suddenly add spark and performance to your cylinders, you may need less throttle and shift better... ?? I don't have a 6 cyl, or a pre 04 trans. But most engines are diff than yours, and our computer is diff than yours. But the logic is in there somewhere. Not sure if you will find computer prejudiced performance details on a truck that unique. But if you do, tell us.
