I will say, the 10spd is the only thing I'm happy with. Very nice trans.

Because I'm in the camp that says buy used and never buy first year of a new gen, it would easily be 20/21 for me.

How big is "decent size"? Maybe you should look at a GM 3500 with the 6.6 gasser.

From what I've read on the GM Trucks forum, the GM version of the 10 speed is smoother and more reliable than both the GM 8 speed and the Ford version of the 10 speed.

GMC is having a ton of issues with its engine, something about lifters.

You look at multiple charts of the most reliable manufactures and your question will be answered. BTW, don't look at the Edmond's and Car and Driver's reports. I swear they are owned by GM.

This. Towing more than 8000lbs? occasionally? I'd go with a ¾-1ton GM 6.6 gasser. towing >8k lbs twice a week or more? Diesel.

The 21 Denali ? or refreshed Denali? Because the Platinum will be here in December, your refreshed Denali won't be here until March.

I belong to a couple of Facebook groups and the silverado/sierra forum. You certainly see more posts than you would like to about this topic being an owner. Add in the nuisance CEL's and its depressing. I really loved my elevation when I bought it, it's a beautiful truck that I'd been eyeing up for some time. The first two months were great, then 8 months of continuing issues that they can't seem to figure out. I'm not alone. Currently Corp GM is offering me $1500 in rewards points to try and keep me happy. I'm going to take it and trade it in. Makes more sense to trade it then to lemon law it (which it qualifies for).

holy crap, what are people thinking saying ram or gmc over a toyota. I have a 2019 Ram and the thing is awful. It lives at the dealership. Leaks oil, cracked exhaust manifold, electrical issues, lose screws rolling around inside doors. That's just the start folks. My buddy WAS a huge gmc guy and he is a mechanic. He also drives....a toyota now. If you want something reliable get the toyota. If you want to live at the dealer.....gmc, ford, ram. Can't wait to kick that ram to the curb.

Def the route I would go. I’m looking at ordering one myself this next year. Proven transmission, solid motor, no def, no diesel maintenance, same gas mileage as I’m getting now. Would I get the same reliability I’m getting now? Remains to be seen.

Reasons to buy the 2022 Denali over a 2022 Tundra Platinum:

1.) The Denali is probably going to be more luxurious and have more gizmos.

2.) The Denali 6.2L V8 engine will sound better if that matters to you.

3.) The Denali is better looking in most people's opinion.

4.) The Denali has a fancy tailgate.

5.) The Denali 3.0L Diesel will get better mileage than either Tundra engine offering.

6.) The Denali is offered with Auto 4 wheel drive.

7.) The Denali will be offered with autonomous driving under certain conditions.

    Reasons to avoid the Denali:

1.) The current GM 5.3L and 6.2L Dynamic Fuel Management technology is still problematic for some owners. When the lifters that make it work fail, they often wipe out the cam and deposit metal shavings into the oil and therefore into the rest of the engine. You can delete this feature and replace the lifters, but do you want to have this expense and void your engine warranty? On the plus side once this is done the GM small block V8 is pretty well bullet proof.

2.) The current production GM 3.0L Duramax is having issues with cam position sensors that GM is having a tough time figuring out how to correct consistently in production. This results in cranking and no starting.

3.) The 6.2L V8 in the Denali is tuned for and probably actually does need 91 Octane fuel, especially if you plan to work it towing.

4.) The 3.0L Duramax has all the diesel emissions gear present and accounted for just waiting to clog up, fail, and cause you copious amounts of pain in your a$$.... and wallet if out of warranty.

5.) If you live at any significant elevation you will take a 3% penalty to horsepower and torque for every 1000ft of elevation you live and drive above sea level with the 6.2L V8. For example if you live at 3500ft that 420hp 6.2L V8 is only delivering 376hp, and you are only getting 412lb-ft of torque instead of 460lb-ft.

6.) GMC and Chevrolet consistently score lower in reliability than other truck makers, and badly trail Toyota in this regard. Stats suggest that you will have a more problematic owner experience with a GMC than a Toyota truck.

7.) GMC equips the Denali with a tiny ass fuel tank, if memory serves it is about 26 gallons.

Reasons to buy the 2022 Tundra Platinum over the 2022 Denali:

1.) The Tundra is probably going to be considerably more reliable if past history is any indication of future performance.

2.) The Tundra will accomplish this reliability while offering 95% of the gizmos and swanky interior quality of the Denali and probably do it for a bit less $$$.

3.) The turbocharged engine used by the Tundra will be almost unaffected by gains in elevation versus power output. Most modern turbo engines with computer controlled waste gates bleed off a ton of excess boost at sea level, and at altitude are more than capable of hitting full boost pressure. Manifold pressure is manifold pressure, if the V35A-FTS can hit target peak boost at 10,000ft it will make full power. So you get to have all that power even up in the mountains.

4.) The iForceMax is strait up more powerful than the most powerful offering in the Denali from the factory. Don't expect the 0-60 time to reflect it because the Tundra doesn't have auto 4 wheel drive, and Toyota uses pretty aggressive traction control. That said from a roll at much above 15-20 MPH, or with a load on I would expect the iForceMax will handily walk away from a GM 6.2 even at sea level and crush it in the mountains.

5.) Both Tundra engines are rated for full power on regular ass 87 Octane cat piss. If you don't care about your warranty at some point in the not too distant future you will probably be able to unlock 60-70hp with only a tune, and probably at least that much torque if you want to have it tuned for 91 Octane.

6.) The Tundra will probably ride better stock for stock if you opt out of the air suspension on both the Platinum and Denali. Coils in the Tundra and leaf packs in the Denali still I think.

7.) Both Tundra engines should deliver stronger mileage than the GM 6.2L V8.

8.) The Tundra Platinum will have a standard 32.2 gallon fuel tank, giving significantly longer fuel range than the GMC.

Reasons to not buy the 2022 Tundra Platinum:

1.) Exterior styling is not as appealing according to most, particularly if you are looking for an understated luxury appearance.

2.) Twin turbo V6 engines sound thrashy and industrial 99.9% of the time (Nissan GT-R's not withstanding), and if that matters you won't be pleased with the actual engine note.

3.) Fake engine noise is piped in to make you think your new Tundra engine doesn't actually sound like a vacuum cleaner and blender in a commercial kitchen had a terrifying child that is groaning while spinning sharp knives all over the place against sheet metal. Don't be fooled, that's pretty much what it actually sounds like.

4.) Not as much self driving or driver aids like the GM Super Cruise.

5.) Tundra will probably have far less aftermarket support, and what there is will not be cheap. If you like to mod your truck, it will cost more to mod your Tundra.

6.) You won't get to develop a meaningful relationship with your dealer service department, and they will feel spurned only seeing you every 5,000 miles for fluid changes and tire rotations. If you enjoy shooting the shit with other service customers, service writers, and car salesmen while your truck is having something fixed for the 5th time or yet another recall; the Tundra will probably leave you feeling isolated and in need of making new friends elsewhere.

Good luck with your decision, both are nice trucks in their own right and no one should tell you what to buy with YOUR money. If you get the Denali drop in and let us know how it treats you from time to time!

This is comparable to a TRD Pro, what would the TRD PRO price be I would guess starting at 65K + any available packages.

You would get Super Cruise and front locker if you go for a AT4x, 6.2L V8 and better interior/massaging seats!

I am tempted but in the end I will be pragmatic and choose a TRD Pro.

I think you should get what makes you happy, don’t get too worried about reliability and resale. Most of the people on here that say get the Toyota for reliability cannot be certain the new tundra will be as reliable as the older gen. I say they are both equally reliable till I see at least 5 years of proven miles on these new trucks. Also most people don’t keep these trucks long enough to worry about reliability, I have owned a few vehicles with the 6.2 and I think that’s one of the best motors on the market. Also the pricing is not much different from the new tundra so I say get what you like and don’t look back. I would also never consider a ram, anyone that buys one is putting themselves in a bad situation that will end with a massive disappointment. The Chrysler products are just garbage and never met anyone that was happy long term, I will say that Cummins is the only reason people buy the heavy duty, otherwise much better options on the market. Good luck

Even if they were the same price off the lot and the reliability was comparable (lol), the GM will still cost you more due to the worse mpg and requiring premium fuel.

The Denali is pretty. Go spend some time at the GM trucks forum. Most people aren’t having catastrophic failures (although there are more of those than there should be, too), but they are having a ton of little weird issues and hiccups. And the rear window leak thread is MASSIVE. If you buy one, you should immediately remove the rear cab spoiler panel and silicone every hole in the sheet metal. A guy over there started a thread detailing how to do it.

You’ve also got to take into consideration that any trip to the dealer for issues in the near future could potentially be much longer than anticipated due to supply chain issues.

My truck has a 6speed transmission, a less powerful v8 than the GM 6.2L, cloth seats, and no blind spot monitoring, but I have also never been back to my dealer for anything, and I don’t ever plan to return. Time is money. Life is too short and too full for my truck to be sitting on a lift at the dealer.

I have owned or driven for work Chevy / GMC, Ford, Ram and Toyota. BY FAR THE MOST RELIABLE is the Toyota, there is no argument ! I am on my 3rd Ram, had 2 Chevy / GMCs, 2 Ford's now on my 2nd Tundra. I love getting home for the weekend locking my work truck up ( Ram ) and getting in the Tundra for a drive !

I’m not sure people spending 70k on a truck are worried about mpg, also the new tundra is not getting 50mpg to make that much of a dent.

If your able to afford a truck with a high price tag than I would hope you are not worried about that, I’m also not sure what making money has to do with my previous comment. Like I mentioned earlier the difference in the mpg will not be large enough to really make a dent. It’s like someone buying a 150k Mercedes and being concerned about the extra cost of maintenance or parts. If that is a concern than that person has no business buying it in the first place. I agree that saving money is nice on gas and other expenses but the way people keep vehicles today, it will take a very long time for someone to recoup that money.
